What are the differences between 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G?
There’s been an evolution in this telecommunications technology over the years, with nomenclatures like 2.5G etc. Recently, Samsung has claimed a breakthrough with 5G: Samsung claims 5G tech breakthrough What does all this actually mean? How has the technology evolved that would result in it being called “xG”? Answer :-
A G is a generation. Within each of those generations there are various competingh standards, and various “half step” improvements.
There is also a lot of marketing spin.
1G = analog Examples include NMT, AMPS, TACS, etc
2G = digital, voice Examples include GSM, D-AMPS, PDC Some people claim IS-95 original cdma was 3G: I’d say that as a sophisticated 2G
2.5G added data (GPRS)
2.75G faster data (EDGE)
3G = digital, supported data, but still circuit switched WCDMA, EvDO
3.5G faster data, added packet data onto CS architecture (HSPA)
4G = wireless broadband OFDMA, flat architecture, true packet switched Most people say this is LTE & WiMAX, though some people are waiting for an upgrade to LTE-A (based on a rather silly data rate definition).
4.5G term not widely used but some people say that is LTE-A
5G = not yet defined
Much faster. Likely to be real ~2020

Always wondered what the differences were. Good to know
Putting on this VR headset for the first time is almost magical.
After spending many hours in virtual reality, I believe the launch of the Oculus Rift is the start of a new era. The first time you put it on is the closest thing to real magic you’re likely to experience anytime soon. It’s true that VR has a lot of maturing to do, but this amazing headset is a front-row seat to watch gaming history being made. Its current lack of motion controllers means these enticing experiences are mostly “look, don’t touch,” but even though it can’t live up to its full potential quite yet, the ability to so easily immerse ourselves in a game world or other virtual environment is worth every penny.
I would love to get one of these vr headsets.. Can't wait to be fully immersed playing a horror game
Are aliens real? If they are, science says they won’t look like what you expect
Will humanity one day find kindred brethren among the stars? Recent scientific discoveries have suggested planets in the same habitable range of conditions as Earth may be surprisingly common. But if life has risen on other planets, the differences between humans and aliens are likely to be greater than Star Trek would have you think.

In my opinion, I believe the universe is too vast for there not to be aliens. But I hope I never have to come in contact with them any time soon

Tron and The Matrix to become our reality?
Imagine a world in which technology reaches a point where it can think on its very own. It can solve problems and issues without anyone having to tell it to. Sounds amazing right? Well according to hit movies like Tron (1982) and The Matrix (1999), the rapid evolution of technology and what it could be capable of can be terrifying. With the rise of the personal computer in the 70s, the arcade boom of the 80s, and the freedom of the internet and World Wide Web in the 90s, it seemed as though technology could be the answer to all our problems. However, these films proposed a new thought. What if instead of man creating and controlling technology, technology began to control us? Although Tron and the matrix contain many differences, they also share many resemblances as well. Some important topics in these films include the thought of certain technology becoming a reality, concerns with these technologies, and other big or life changing ideas presented throughout the 80s and 90s.
Virtual Reality or Actual Reality?
In the 70s, 80s, and maybe the 90s, virtual reality seemed like a long shot. Back when Tron was created, viewers of the film and fans of arcade games imagined how amazing it would be to be playing games in person instead of playing with a joystick and buttons on some machine. But now that fantasy is actually becoming reality.
Companies like Sony, Microsoft and Oculus have created what are known as the early stages of virtual reality. Recently they’ve released headsets to visually take you to this “new” world. Eventually, there will be full body suits to fully immerse you into this virtual world. However, As amazing as this sounds, eventually we could get to the point where we can’t tell the difference between reality and fantasy. Just like The Matrix, maybe we’ll think the virtual world is real life or maybe there will be those who would much rather be in the simulation instead.
Artificial Intelligence (The Good, The Bad and The Dangerous)
The thought that humans and machines can think alike can be an amazing, yet frightening concept. The human race consists of many good and bad people. And the A.I. portrayed in these film react the same way. The good A.I. in these films become good companions and help serve the human protagonist. Just like how Tron helped Flynn and how The Oracle helped Neo find his path to becoming the one. On the other hand, the bad A.I. tried to destroy or control the protagonist’s, like how the red programs served The Master Control Program in Tron or how the agents maintained and safeguarded The Matrix for the machines.
We’ve only dabbled on the creation of artificial intelligence. Although we have programs like Siri and Cortana which is closest thing we have to A.I. in mainstream society, they are nowhere near as advanced as the ones in Tron and The Matrix. We do need to keep into consideration the potential dangers of artificial intelligence to prevent the possibilities presented in these films. Time will tell whether or not artificial intelligence will be our friend or enemy.
Protagonist to set everyone free
In these virtual worlds many programs and even humans are being oppressed and constricted by a higher power. Until, one day the hero comes in to set everyone free. In Tron, Flynn along with others tries to remove ENCOM’s Master Control Program and to overthrow a corrupt boss from their company. In The Matrix, Neo must be the one to stop the agents and free mankind from the control of the machines.
Both films dwell on the idea of being freed outside of some kind of boundaries. This relates to when it was debated whether video games, the internet and the World Wide Web should be constricted inside certain boundaries or whether it should be free for anyone to experiment with. Though this is nowhere near as dramatic as machines taking over, the ideas share similar points.
Game Over?
Tron and The Matrix not only serves as entertaining films, but also makes us consider the future and what it may have in store for us. The closer we head into the future the closer we get to possibly replicating the technology presented in these films. I for one am up for the development and experimentation for new technology, but am also cautious of the possibility that technology could one day rule us.

Will Netflix kill cable? Not any time soon
As of January, Netflix boasted over 75 million subscribers and added over 130 countries to its roster. So it seems like cable is awaiting an inevitable death. Or at least that’s what Netflix’s CEO Reed Hastings said in 2014, “It’s kind of like the horse, you know, the horse was good until we had the car,” he said. “The age of broadcast TV will probably last until 2030.” But cable is adapting.

Over the bast decade video streaming website have grown immensely. Many think it will one day take over the tv industry. I’m personally more the type of person to never watch Tv. In addition to this I think television is fading slowly out of people homes. This is due to many issues like price, personally preference, and the fact that cable is only available as a package deal. Unlike hulu, and netflix that offer shows and entertainment that are most popular or trending. Tv will never be the same again and whether it sticks around or not depends on how it adapts to change.
Yeah i believe cable is on its way out. With streaming platforms like Hulu and Netflix it’s hard for cable to compete. These video streaming services are significantly cheaper, offer more TV shows(especially streaming exclusives like Daredevil/Orange is the New Black), and movies(Though not as up to date as Cable). I already know many people who have disconnected their cable in favor for streaming their media. Unless cable companies make their services cheaper and offer more of what the viewer wants, expect video streaming to be the winner.
Stephen King’s IT Movie Will Be Rated R, Plans To Film This Year
Oh god they're remaking this movie... Did this give anyone else nightmares when they were younger?
Through the Looking Glass
Sony’s Vaio logo might seem oblivious to any onlooker at first, but on a closer inspection one might be able to uncover the rudimentary run of the mill rendition that the symbol stands for.
The VA part of the logo represents a sine wave - the basic analog signal. And IO part of the logo represents 1 0 symbolizing the digital signal.
What does it stand for?
VAIO stands for Visual Audio Intelligent Organizer and it represents the history and evolution of technology from analog to digital.
Wait, There’s more!
That power button that you find on all devices. Now that doesn’t look alien to you now, does it?
Great day!
Once seen, cannot be unseen... Never knew about any of this.
What if instead of putting all those pieces on over a uniform, soldiers could put on a protective layer of lightweight undergarments (essentially anti-anthrax underwear), throw on the uniform, and be protected and ready to go? The Army and researchers from MIT, the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the Air Force Civil Engineering Center (NSRDEC) are working on such a "second skin" concept.
They’re making a skin tight lightweight body protector that could help with the soldiers and officer’s burden of heavy gear.

Before the Beginning
Think back to 100 years ago, then think of all the things we take for granted today.
-- In 1900, <10% of families owned a stove, or had access to electricity or phones
-- In 1915, <10% of families owned a car
-- In 1930, <10% of families owned a refrigerator or clothes washer
-- In 1945, <10% of families owned a clothes dryer or air-conditioning
-- In 1960, <10% of families owned a dishwasher or color TV
-- In 1975, <10% of families owned a microwave
-- In 1990, <10% of families had a cell phone or access to the Internet
(http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2012/04/the-100-year-march-of-technology-in-1-graph/255573/)
Looking back you have to be appreciative of all the technology that was created. Could you imagine not having electricity? Can you imagine not being able to watch your movies or cartoons on TV? Can you imagine not having internet or your cell phone to text your closest friends? Technology has evolved fast within these 100 years and has made our lives a thousand times better. Instead of thinking of all the things you don’t have, think of all the things you do have. Because chances are you own most, if not all of these.
Eagles trained to fight drones, full story & video<<
More Gadgets, Robotics and tech gifs « More tech gifs « & tech news «
Drones are becoming more and more relevant in our lives and it’s a trend that’s only increasing. From the notorious Amazon drone delivery service to the common camera drone. Since the increase of this new tech many questions have risen, asking weather people should be licensed, privacy issues and the risks they pose being in the sky with planes. Drones are becoming more prominent in the lives of common users and authorities are finding new ways to regulate their use. Here’s one that caught my eye.
Thts pretty interesting.
I wonder how they train them
The revolutionary Teslasuit uses electro muscular stimulation and features an array of highly sensitive sensors that allow the wearer to literally FEEL virtual reality
Virtual reality at the next level.
Absolutely crazy how close we are to virtual reality. They actually created a suit that gives you the feeling of touch, the sensation of different temperatures, and mimics the environment around you. So if I’m in this virtual world and i was in a snow storm ,for example, would i feel the cold temperature and the snow around my feet? Its amazing how soon this will be available for every one. Honestly, as amazing as virtual reality sounds, it’s also alarming in a way. I can just imagine people becoming addicted to this virtual reality and end preferring this world over actual reality. Or what if we advance to the point where we can not even distinguish what is real or not? I don’t know if I’m just being paranoid but I’m getting this Tron and Matrix vibe from all of this. I’m all for advancing in technology but is it worth the possibility of losing our humanity?
