Huawei high end phone seen as spy threat by Washington
AT&T already canceled the deal with Huawei and now Verizon is suffering from similar pressure to do the same.
The AT&T deal died a few weeks after members of the U.S. Senate and House intelligence committees wrote to the Federal Communications Commission raising concerns about reports that Huawei had struck a deal with a major telecommunications carrier. The Dec. 20 letter, reviewed by The Information, cited an intelligence committee report on the Chinese firm’s alleged ties to the Communist Party and China’s intelligence and security services. “Additional work by the Intelligence Committees on this topic only reinforces concerns regarding Huawei and Chinese espionage,”

Apple apology for iphone performance, promise to fix it
A Message to Our Customers about iPhone Batteries and Performance
We’ve been hearing feedback from our customers about the way we handle performance for iPhones with older batteries and how we have communicated that process. We know that some of you feel Apple has let you down. We apologize. There’s been a lot of misunderstanding about this issue, so we would like to clarify and let you know about some changes we’re making.
First and foremost, we have never — and would never — do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product, or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades. Our goal has always been to create products that our customers love, and making iPhones last as long as possible is an important part of that.

EU court rule, UBER is a transport service, not a digital company
The European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruled Wednesday that UBER is a transportation firm and not a digital company. The verdict will have major implications for how Uber is regulated throughout Europe. "The service provided by Uber connecting individuals with non-professional drivers is covered by services in the field of transport," the ECJ said. "Member states can therefore regulate the conditions for providing that service," it added.
Uber have been classifying itself as an "information society service" which connects drivers and passengers through inter-mediation via their app. This helped protect it from national regulations.

So Meetup bought by WeWork, what now ?
WeWork currently has 150,000 members across 171 locations in 18 countries. Meetup, on the other hand, boasts 32.3 million members in 182 countries.
Meetup CEO Scott Heiferman reportedly told employees about the acquisition on Monday, and mentioned a $30 million figure, but it's not clear "if that was an acquisition price, or a reference to expected investment into his company from the acquiring entity," according to Crunchbase.
WeWork confirmed the acquisition on Tuesday morning. The company said Meetup would continue to operate as a standalone company for now.
How would this impact meetup, will we see growth, or simply the platform redirected towards customer acquisition for wework ?
Datally a mobile data management from Google
Google launched a Data management app for android phones called Datally helps you do three things:
Understand your data. See your usage on a hourly, daily, weekly or monthly basis and get personalized recommendations for how you can save more.
Control your data. Turn on the Data Saver bubble to block background data usage and track real-time data usage while using each of your apps—it’s like a speedometer for your data. You can also block data with one tap if an app’s data usage gets out of control.
Save your data. Sometimes you just need a little more than what you’ve got on your data plan. Datally will tell you if you’re near public Wi-Fi and help you connect. Once you’re done, don’t forget to rate the network quality to help other users.

Why Android phones gathered location data for Google
Last week Google admitted that Android phones gather your location data and send it to Google, even if you’ve turned off location services and don’t have a SIM card. The question ever since is why? Google already have access to all our data, so why is the location tracking? It seams that google might have been targeting the cell towers location - which usually are kept secret by each telecom company- , so it seams we were just tools to collect data that was not shared with Google.
