Metaverse: A Trend Setter

What is the most trending word in the tech world today?

Recently, there have been some developments in the field of technology with advancements in the way we live our life. We have been introduced to a new term, “Metaverse”. But what does it mean and what does it do? Is it a place or a device? Don’t worry I am here to brief you on the topic. Before beginning with our topic, let's talk about Augmented (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). AR is an advanced version of the real world that is achieved through the use of visual elements, sound, or other technological stimuli.

And, VR uses computer modeling and simulation that allows one to engage with artificial three-dimensional (3-D) visual or other sensory environments.

So what exactly is the metaverse?

The suffix meta- means "behind or beyond, and the second half of the word, -verse is derived from the word "universe". It is an alternative to the real universe, and it “represents a collection of open worlds and settings, joined by interoperable assets and experience. 

It’s a visual space, consisting of avatars, digital objects, a functioning economy, where technology is not just a tool, but an all-encompassing thing. It will be accessible through phones, computers, wearable technology, and headsets (or a combination of these) and will be where you work, shop, exercise, meet people, watch movies, and play games. You can attend meetings as an avatar using the Quest VR headset. In the near future, when you go outside, you will wear smart glasses that provide AR technology and record what you see and hear.

How metaverse will impact the world?

This is the future we are heading for, and we expect the world to be very different from the one we grew up in, due to such a huge technological jump. It will allow consumers to test products before buying, in a virtual environment. It will allow you to travel the world without leaving your room - unlike what you have already done with Google Maps, and Street View, but imagine yourself immersed and alive, and full of other people exploring the world around you. You will be doing all these things while sitting in your home in your comfortable PJs. It will bring the whole experience to your fingertips.
