How-To - Tonometry through Eyelid with Diaton tonometer - Glaucoma Eye Test http://www.TonometerDiaton.com
TONOMETER DIATON - home of Unique Through the Eyelid tonometry. Transpalpebral tonometer Diaton allows to measure Intraocular Pressure IOP through the upper eyelid without contact with cornea. Revolutionary technology in Diaton Tonometer is the Only Non-corneal tonometer on the market - it provides reliable measurements and makes it possible to diagnose glaucoma in its early stages, allowing to devise an appropriate care and treatment plan. Diaton tonometer is effective in obtaining IOP measurements for many challenging patient populations, including: those with chronic conjunctivitis, erosions, edema and corneal dimness; post corneal surgeries; immobilized patients and children. Also, patients do not need to remove their contact lenses. Diaton Tonometry is a revolutionary approach to measuring intraocular pressure (IOP) THROUGH THE EYELID and OVER THE SCLERA - no contact with the cornea, no anesthesia or sterilization is required. Pen-like, hand-held, portable device is perfect for measuring eye pressure and helps ophthalmologists and optometrists in diagnosis and prevention of blindness caused by glaucoma. This ophthalmic device is irreplaceable for mass glaucoma screenings. Diaton Tonometer is intended for use by Inpatient & Outpatient Clinics such as Hospitals, Emergency Rooms, Nursing & Elderly Homes, General & Specialty Practitioners as well as Ophthalmologists and Optometrists Follow Tonometer on http://www.Facebook.com/tonometer http://www.twitter.com/tonometer

TONOMETRIC VALUES OF INTRAOCULAR PRESSURE, USING THE GOLDMANN TONOMETER, TONOPEN AND DIATON TRANSPALPEBRAL TONOMETER IN KERATOCONUS
AUTHORS: Daher, Felipe T.1; Paranhos, Augusto1
INSTITUTIONS: 1. Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Paulista School of Medicine, São Paulo Hospital, Federal University of São Paulo , São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil.
Purpose: To evaluate agreement among Goldmann, Tonopen and Diaton transpalpebral tonometers.
Conclusions: The measures of Diaton transpalpebral tonometer shows satisfactory reproducibility and their concordance with the Goldmann, mainly in the patients with karatoconus on which the pressure values were higher than the Goldmann, may trend to a measure value closer to the real intraocular pressure, as Goldmann tonometer underestimates the intraocular pressures on patients with keratoconus.
BiCOM Inc is proud to present Translapebral Tonometer Diaton to over 11,000 visitors of ARVO the largest and most respected eye and vision research organization in the world http://www.arvo.org .
Worlds Only Glaucoma (IOP) Eye Test Through Eyelid with DIATON Pen Tonometer - Quick and Painless Transpalpebral Tonometry
Measuring Intraocular eye Pressure (IOP) to detect glaucoma and other problems related the pressure inside of the eye has been, until recently, perceived to be quite uncomfortable and anxiety provoking for the patient. Even if these tests aren’t actually painful, the thought of having a strong burst of air shot into your open eye, or seeing the eye doctor coming at you with an instrument headed straight for, and then touching it to, your numbed eyeball can be quite and ordeal for some people.
Luckily, today, there is another option – Worlds Only THROUGH the Eyelid tonometer - Tonometer Diaton http://www.TonometerDiaton.com
Thanks to new technology and innovation, today ophthalmologists and optometrists can measure the pressure within a person’s eyeball, (intraocular pressure), without actually touching the eyeball or injecting a strong puff of air into the eye while it is open. The new instrument used to measure intraocular pressure, without anxiety and discomfort, is called the Diaton Tonometer; made by BiCOM, Inc. This ophthalmic instrument enables intraocular pressure to be measured through the upper eyelid; therefore, it never touches the eyeball. This not only provides less discomfort, it has hygiene and cleanliness advantages as well. The Diaton Tonometer never comes into direct contact with the eyeball, and therefore, does not directly touch a person’s tears. It is known that tears can contain bacteria and viruses, including the HIV virus that causes AIDs. It is intended that the device be cleaned and sanitized between patients with an alcohol swab. But because it does not directly touch a patient’s eye (non-conrnea tonometry) it does not have to be sterilized after each use.
Since DIATON is non-contact and handheld pen-like tonometer, it can be used in any setting – rural areas that desperately need glaucoma screening or Inpatient & Outpatient Clinics such as Hospitals, Emergency Rooms, Nursing & Elderly Homes, General, Family, Internal Medicine & Specialty Practitioners office as well as Ophthalmic and Optometric practice.
Major Benefits of Diaton Tonometer:
· No contact with the cornea (only upper eyelid)
· No anesthesia drops
· No risk of infecting or scratching cornea
· No consumables (no need to purchase replacement tips/covers..etc.,)
· No sterilization
· No pachymetry needed (no need to purchase pachymeter)
· No daily calibration needed
· Handheld / Portable + Easy to use
DIATON Tonometer provides reliable measurements and makes it possible to diagnose glaucoma in its early stages, allowing to devise an appropriate care and treatment plan. DIATON is effective in obtaining IOP measurements for many challenging patient populations, including: those with chronic conjunctivitis, erosions, edema and corneal dimness; people who have undergone corneal surgeries; and immobilized patients and children. Also, patients do not need to remove their contact lenses.
Other advantages of Diaton Tonometry include being able to measure intraocular pressure on patients that may have malformations or diseases and illnesses of the eye which may make traditional methods even more uncomfortable, or even impossible. It also has the option of being used when a person being tested is lying down, or standing up. This is a big advantage for the practitioner when examining immobile patients and young children.
Another plus is that anesthetic is not needed prior to using this instrument. There are a number of people who are allergic to ingredients contained in some anesthetizing agents. The Diaton Tonometer makes it easy for the person using it to get an accurate reading. It has a digital display that is easy to read, and a sensor that emits an audible sound if the instrument is place in the incorrect position, or if the battery is low. This new tool also has the benefit of being able to easily take several measurements and averaging them quickly with the push of a button.
The Diaton Tonometer is small and easily portable and comes in its own case. Again, it does not have to be sterilized after each use, and the battery is easily changed. A testing device to determine if the instrument is functioning correctly is also provided and is also conveniently kept within the carrying case when not in use, Diaton does not require daily calibration.
As with any new technology, the accuracy of the measurements is only as good as the ability to operate the tool correctly. For optometrist, ophthalmologists, and the technicians working with them, there is not only an instruction manual for the Diaton Tonometer, but also a video which increases the ease of learning proper operation. With all the advantages and benefits offered to both patients and practitioners, the Diaton Tonometer http://www.TonometerDiaton.com offers comfort, accuracy, and convenience. It is a welcome new instrument to be found within the office of those entrusted to the care of our vision.

Unlike Goldmann tonometry which is based on the Imbert–Fick law and is effected by CCT and other corneal parameters and corneal diseases, where small area of the membrane is flattened to measure pressure of the internal fluid. Evidence shows that variations in CCT may greatly influence Goldmann tonometry reading. Parameters such as membrane elasticity, rigidity and other biomechanical properties can influence the accuracy of the intraocular pressure readings.
Diaton Non-corneal tonometry solves most of the corneal measurement issues by implementing Newton’s Second Law and a Ballistic principle to obtain IOP. Readings with Diaton Tonometer are taken over the upper eyelid, at the tarsus and over the sclera, not the cornea.
Tonometer Diaton is the perfect solution in the following cases when the use of other devices is problematic or impossible:
· Mass screening of patients.
· IOP control during clinical observation and selection of adequate hypotensive therapy for glaucoma patients.
· Serial tonometry for obtaining Diurinal curve.
· IOP can be obtained without removing contact lenses.
· IOP measuring in immobilized patients - measurement can be done sitting or supine.
· IOP measuring in children. Measurement is taken outside of the visual field.
· Patients with the following conditions: chronic conjunctivitis, corneal pathology including keratitis, keratotone, corneal dimness, after penetrating keratoplastics, keratoprosthesis, laser refractive correction, high degree of ametropy, astigmatism.
· On patients with medicinal allergies.
· Lasik / LASEK / PRK (Diaton can be used for IOP measurement right after these surgeries)
Interesting clinical study: “Comparison of Accuracy of Diaton Transpalpebral Tonometer Versus Goldmann Applanation Tonometer, Dynamic Contour Tonometer and Ocular Response Analyzer “ concluded: “Transpalpebral Tonometry is an accurate method of IOP measurement that is also independent from the biomechanical characteristics of cornea. It can be recommended for IOP measurements of patients diagnosed with glaucoma including those cases where cornea pathology or cornea characteristics have been altered”.
