Hey! I just wanna ask you, how do you run an ask blog so well? I recently started a spiderman oc ask blog but I'm having a hard time getting it to work. Got any tips for me? (Btw really love your art!) ((Also my blog is ask--tree-spider of you wanna know))
Hey! right now this blog it’s kind of in hiatus, i’m working on a few things to get it in motion again, but let me see what i can do
FIRST: if you’re just making an ask blog just go with the flow, answer all the questions you feel confortable with. you don’t need to anwer all the questions if some of them don’t fit what you’re trying to do with your blog.
you can conect questions, after come time some topics will repeat, and that can create internal jokes, also there can be new characters as time goes on. it’s all about growt and development. and having fun
if you’re doing a specific story using the ask box as tool to get the plot moving, like i’m doing, then you need to plan ahead.
i already know where the characters will go, what will their strugles be and how it will all end. but i don’t know how the questions from the followers will afect the spaces in between the begining, the conflict and the end.
for example, i know a character needs to climb a mountain, and i’m planing for them to just climb it, but then BAM somene gives them a jet pack, so now they use the jet pack, but it can’t be that easy, so i make the jet pack brake, but someone makes a bunch of pillows apear beneath them and they don’t get hurt. so now they’re half way throu the mountain, on a pillow fort.
did i planed that? No. does it work? Yes, for me it does, because it sets the story in motion
it’s half planed, half improvised
SECOND: it’s really important to interconnect the posts. some people will get to your blog not knowing where to start, if you don’t want people to get frustrated and leave without giving your content a chance, you gotta make it easy to navigate.
all my posts have a previous/next/first button, so pleople know what came before, what follows and where to start linearly, and they don’t have try to make sense of the content themselves. as the story moves on i will also make a masterpost with links to every chapter and will link that masterpost to the blog’s description, so you don’t have to strugle to find anything. i also have a link to the first page on the blog’s description too
also hashtags help a lot when people try to separate the comic, from the extra content and can help yourself to find your own stuff
THIRD: Have fun and make sure everybody it’s having fun as well. treat people with love. i really like to post the drawings people send me. that’s one of the first things i’ll do when i get back to this blog, a big post with all the drawings i couldn’t thank properly before the hiatus.
also, some questions people send you may be good but they may not fit with what you’re trying to do on your blog, so if you can’t include them on you’re narrative you can still answer them separately as extra/non-canon content.
keep in touch with youre followers, be a good host and have fun.
p.s.: I’m planing on going back really soon <3
