The only thing Timothy Leeson's parents ever gave him was his name.

Okay that's not fair to his mother when she took him to the orphanage. His mother named him while the orphanage owners were trying to convince her not to give him up. They took him from her arms as she fainted then quietly passed away before they even had a chance to keep her alive.

He grows up to be fast. Crawling, then walking early. And as he got older, running faster and faster. The orphanage was so impressed, up until the point he started trying to run away. That's when they took away his bike. Didn't stop him from running.

Then when he'd saved enough, he got a skateboard and became even more of menace. Especially to the nuns at his catholic school. The only place that would take the rabble like him.

They were absolutely happy to send him off when he turned 18. By that time he'd had more close calls with the law than the other orphans combined. The police always get close but he manages to slip away with a smug, "Toodles" on his lips.

He caught the interest of Peter Pan and some would say the rest is history. Though life is much more complicated.

He's Pan's fastest and most consistent dealer, because he's not interested in partaking in the merchandise. He just wants to be chased, to prove he can't be caught. That's a better high than Pixie Dust could ever provide.

Besides the more he sells, the bigger his cut.

Now his day job is at the coffee shop, while his side and night job is working for Pan.

And even sitting at the counter during the day is not going to give anyone he doesn't want to a chance to catch up.

It’s not unusual for him to find himself easily distracted from wherever his focus may have previously been once faced with something novel and exciting that catches his eye. It happens all the time, because everything is new to him — so when he sees a group of boys (boys around his own age, he thinks, he guesses) leaping over obstacles and taking running starts in order to scale walls, he forgets all about what he had been doing only seconds before.

Suddenly, it’s no longer important. It doesn’t matter. Not as much as this, anyway.

“Me? You’re talking to me?” Bright blue eyes widen, twinkling with excitement as one of the boys — the one who had been teaching the others in the first place — calls out to him and invites him to join them. People never invite him to do anything with them. This is a chance he does not want to miss.

The yes is so instant it doesn’t even leave his lips before he is already jogging over to where they stand.

Carefully setting down the bags which hold all of his worldly possessions on the floor, he straightens his back, looking to his new friend for direction.

“How can I do what you did?”

Tim hadn't expected the eager energy. Even the most eager Lost Boy he's taught has never matched that level. He has to blink and take a step back like he'd just been blinded.

He clears his throat.

"Right, so gonna start with just leaning on the barrier here." Tim's used to restarting lessons in the middle, giving the Lost Boys time to practice without him watching. He steps up to the barrier and puts both hands flat on the top of it. "Get a sense for how much you actually weigh and what it'll take to get over it without momentum."

He pushes, lifting his feet an inch off the ground and dropping back down.

Okay, so maybe Elinor shouldn't have thought Tim would just open up in this dramatic outpouring of stress - they really didn't know each other very intimately. Still though, they weren't the type to give up on digging deeper when something was obviously the matter.

"Worse, but I would never teach at a private school. Too controlling," Public education was where a lot of struggles happened institutionally, and that was exactly where Elinor wanted to be, helping where it was needed, "I thinking of putting together something like a trade school for the students, actually. I hope it'll be really beneficial for them, they're nowhere near as good at taking care of themselves."

Tim snorts. No way public school is worse than the nuns. But he can pretend for a bit. If for no other reason than to make himself feel better about all his emotions roiling in his stomach.

"That sounds kinda awesome," Tim admits. "Wish I had that. I might not have ended up a adrenaline junkie barista if I had."

He glances down at the teacher and uncurls a bit, relaxing now that he's sure of his weight even with the aches in his body.

"It's nice to hear you actually give a shit about them. Even if their little shits to you. Not enough adults give a shit about kids. Especially the moody hormonal teens."

Weirdly enough, Edmund find the other young man's words just as cryptic and confusing as the psychic's. Seen by who? Are people weirdly overprotective of their star signs they don't even want to be seen entering the place? Given what he knows of Godscobh, Edmund has to suspect there's more inside the psychic shop than tea leaves and incense.

"You make it sound so foreboding," Considering he looked like he had just been drowned, Edmund figured it was just a scare tactic. There were lots of scary things about Godscobh, and a positively soaking young man in worn out Sketchers wasn't one of them, "Are you alright? You look as if you could've crawled straight from the ocean."

"And you look like you shouldn't be out alone in the middle of a rainstorm."

Tim scowls at the man then stands up. He's soaked through and tired but he doesn't show it as he scans the man up and down. Tim could probably pickpocket something from the guy but he's trying to be less of a menace for a bit. Don't need the cops sticking their noses around him anymore than they already were.

"I'm fine though," he responds, a little touched the guy even cared enough to ask. "Are you?"

"'No'?" Lorcan repeated incredulously, not realizing it might not have been directed towards him, "You break into my apartment, bleed all over my floor, but god forbid I make a suggestion on how the night should proceed." He held his hands up in mock surrender, but there's absolutely no venom toward Tim. He's already giving the lost boy a glass of water and running warm water over a dish towel in the sink. Lorcan may be an asshole, but he's not a monster.

Silence fills the apartment for a moment, and Lorcan remembers they haven't spoken in... quite a while. He's not sure if he should be upset this is how they're meeting again. Or somehow hurt and betrayed Tim didn't come sooner? Maybe he doesn't feel any type of way about it, and is just glad Tim isn't at death's door in an alley somewhere. Instead, he's here now, and he chose to come here over anywhere else when he clearly needed help. Did that mean something?

"Don't do it because I said so, do it because it's good sense. Are you bleeding anywhere else?" He hands the washcloth over, feeling Tim's sigh reverberate through both of them.

Tim begrudgingly accepts the glass and the towel. The water tastes so good right now. Maybe he is seriously in trouble? He starts to dab the towel at his head.

"I don't know," he finally answers. "Haven't had a chance to stop and see yet."

He ducks his gaze away, not wanting to feel good about the worried look Lorcan is giving him. It makes old feelings bubble up and they shouldn't. Sure they'd made out on the roof of a club but that doesn't mean anything right? It can't if...

"Thank you," he says. "For not kicking me out."

Tim's in the park, teaching a few new Lost Boys some tricks to escape a chase. Could be from a sale gone wrong, come Crocs being assholes, or some cops trying to bust them. Tim believes in preparing for the get away.

Whenever he's doing stuff like this, he usually attracts some other people wanting to watch or learn some tricks too. Kids especially though most hardly stay long before their parents haul them away.

He's working with the guys, showing them how to get over some concrete barriers using only one hand as leverage. He notices a guy watching very curiously.

"You wanna try, bro?" he calls.

Moody teenagers were par for the course of Elinor's job, they'd been handling kids of all different backgrounds and life experiences every year they were working in Godscobh. While it couldn't be said that Tim was one of their students, he reminded Elinor of that youthfulness in spirit. The kind of thing that kept him climbing trees like a little sprite.

"Yeah, I noticed that too," They fold their arms in the cold, looking up at the young man and wondering why he chose this park, this tree to do his thinking in. Elinor didn't know much of his background, but with Tinley getting questioned, their own car getting followed, and everything affected by Nauticus' closure? Practically everyone felt involved, even if they didn't want to be.

"You been staying safe these days? Hadn't seen you around in a minute," Could anyone really say they were "safe" in Godscobh? Not of very long, obviously.

Tim rubs his side where the bandages are still holding him together. The bruises have faded but he still has some pain inside. It makes it hard for him to do his jobs but he can't stop.

"I can take care of myself," he says not really answering their question but not lying. He looks down at them. "You doing alright, teach? Are the kids here as bad as the kids in the Catholic school?"

Lorcan had been at Snake Eyes for close to 16 hours. They were having a great night - holidays were always the time to make a mint - and the gunshots going off half an hour earlier weren't even a mood killer. No one knew where they were coming from, and hardly anyone cared after returning to their slot machines. Really, they could've just been the sounds of New Year's fireworks anyways, and Lorcan was ready to get home and collapse into bed once his shift was over.

When he'd opened his front door and come face-to-face with his ex-boyfriend simultaneously crawling in through his window, it seemed like a sleep-deprived hallucination. In seconds though, he noticed the gash drying on Tim's forehead and the blood pooling in his teeth and lips, and suddenly the dealer didn't feel tired anymore.

"Why the fuck would I keep superglue in the bathroom?" That's really not what they should be arguing about right now, but it's the only thought he can muster up when also trying to weasel around Tim and get a better look at his injuries. There's no way he's letting Tim leave here with nothing but a bandaid. Lorcan's hands quickly, firmly grasp onto Tim's shoulders and assertively turn him 180 degrees to push away from the bathroom door, "We're going to the kitchen sink and you're washing your mouth out with salt water."

Tim winces and does to try to wriggle out of Lorcan's grasp but he's tired, bleeding, and in pain. He doesn't really have the energy to fight this. He's the one that came here anyway. Tim keeps telling himself it's because Lorcan's place was close and the police wouldn't be looking in this building.

But hearing Lorcan worrying about him is sending him back to times when Tim would come back from a parkour run with nasty scrapes and Lorcan would help. Then they would...

"No," he says to his brain and to Lorcan. "I'll be fine, you don't need to baby me."

They're in the kitchen which is small enough that Tim is essentially trapped. He huffs and leans against the counter, trying to seem cool and annoyed but his eyes flutter because he's so fucking exhausted. At least the bathroom has the bathtub he could lay in.

At the other’s confirmation, Mercury smiled as xe took a seat beside him. Xe placed the coffee and muffin down, carefully. Didn’t wanna spill xer goods, y’know? Seemed like xe found a kindred spirit or just someone who understood the woes of wet food.

“Right? Especially at this time of day. Good choice of pastry, genuinely some of the best I’ve had. Barring my favourite bakery, of course!”

Now that xe was settled, xe took a sip of xer coffee. Yep, just as warm as xe liked it. “You stuck here ‘cause of the rain too orrrrr?”

"What? The corporate coffee shop doesn't have the best baked goods in the world?"

Tim chuckles, sipping his cold brew, then hot chocolate.

"You've got good taste at least. Terry makes the best coffee. Still haven't figured out how they do it. There's one customer that always complains that Terry is the only one who can make his coffee the right way."

Tim looks out the window at the pouring rain. It hasn't really let up or gotten worse.

"Not really. Just gearing up for a run. Need the carbs and sugar for this weather."

There's many reasons coming to Lorcan's place after years of purposefully staying away is a bad idea. But when you're running from the cops (again) and some wounds that you basically superglued shut reopen and you're nowhere close to your own place... well, those reason's not to go kind of go out the window. Which is the opposite of what he did.

Of course, this is the first time he's been back and it's not a great second first impression.

"I'm fine," Tim insists, trying to weave around Lorcan for the bathroom where he was planning to lock so Lorcan wouldn't see the worst of his injuries from the botched raid. "Just give me some superglue and maybe a butterfly bandaid and I'll be right as rain." Unfortunately for Tim, Lorcan's gotten more wily since they broke up and has managed to block Tim from the bathroom.

Tim's literally up a tree in a park across from a school. Apparently the school Elinor works at. There's snow on the ground and really it's too cold to be just sitting outside for no reason.

He'd heard the school bell ring and the noise of people leaving. It's oddly comforting. Like life is still going on and once he heals up, he can join them in the moving along.

He'd noticed the footsteps coming closer but he'd figured it was people wanting to play in the snow. Not the teacher he'd met at Halloween.

"What hasn't happened?" he responds rather than answering their question. "Seems like everything and nothing is happening recently."

He's tugging on the strings of his hoodie, not really doing anything with them.

"Like... monopoly...?" Carmine asked tentatively, trying to recall some of the titles she had seen in passing at the stores. She had never played a board game before- unless maybe if one counted a twisted version of darts. She had played something similar like that growing up, but that most likely did not count as a board game.

She didn't like being inebriated either- so drinking games were always out of the question for her.

"I think board games?"

Tim nods in agreement. "Exactly. I'm trying to convince some friends that board games are way better for the hangout they're planning. But they're like freshly 21 and think getting blackout drunk is 'cool' right now."

He shakes his head. He's not much older than them but he's technically been drinking since well before he should've been and knows it's not as fun as it might look.

"You got a favorite game?"

Open Starter

Where: A Hill Top above Godscobh

The hill sits just outside the brightest stretch of town, where the streetlights dim out with distance and the sky finally darkens. Peter lies back against the hood of his beat up truck, hands folded behind his head, staring up at the stars like they might mean something if he watches long enough.

He hears footsteps before he sees them, but he doesn’t move. He isn’t afraid, never is... plus his trust knife is at his side. “Stars look different from up here,” he says, voice low, thoughtful. “Like they’re closer. Or like they’re trying to remind you of more.” The night murmurs with distant traffic, the ocean far off, the sound of his radio playing behind them, Godscobh breathing below.

“This town’s real good at pretending it’s all there ever was,” Peter continues. “Makes you think you everything is here. Like you might never leave here and that this is the whole story.” And maybe it was. There was a reason he never even thought of leaving. But some days, like today… the possibility felt real. He turns his head slightly, eyes still fixed on the sky.

He shifts his position, sitting up just enough to glance at the other person, knees drawn in, posture loose but attentive. “You ever look at the stars and feel… homesick?” he asks, half-smiling at the absurdity of it with his child-like wonder. “For somewhere you’ve never been. Or maybe somewhere you’ve only seen in your dreams?”

Tim hates uphill running. It's worse than vertical climbing for him. At least when he's climbing a building, he's using multiple sets of muscles to make the effort make sense. Uphill running is just annoying as fuck. But when you're training Lost Boys how to navigate in the dark, there's no better place than the woodsy hills just outside of the town proper.

He looks up to the sky, trying to see if it does inspire that feeling. It doesn't

"Never really cared about the stars honestly," he responds, leaning against the truck. "The nuns loved talking about it being evidence of God or whatever. My homesick is more when I'm at the beach at sunset."

He shrugs not sure if he can explain why. Well, he could but it would involve talking about a time in his life that he tries not to if he can help it.

"But yeah, town can feel like a black hole or something. Like a gravity well that no matter how far you go, it's always gonna be pulling you back."

He finally looks at Pan. He's leader, friend, brother. It's a rare sight to see him so philosophical. It doesn't fit the hooligan/anarchist/free-spirited look the town decided is their vibe.

Recognizing the concern in Tootles' voice, Tinley's anger deflates. She sighs, resting her face in her hands for a moment.

When she looks back up at Tootles, she says, her voice quieter now, “I’m not stupid. I know how risky this is. I weighed the costs and the benefits of it all, and I’m doing what’s best for all of us. You just need to trust me."

Her escape plan right now is "don't get caught in the first place," and if she does end up getting caught, well . . . she still needs to figure that part out. But she won't tell Tootles that.

"I always have an escape plan," she says with a confident smile and a tilt of her head, hoping to coax them back into their familiar, more light-hearted territory. It's mostly true, though said plan was usually just find an exit and run. "You don't need to worry about me, Tootles. I've got this."

Tim picks at his ice cream in the silence, trying to calm himself. Just because he worries about Tinley doing this, doesn't mean he can get mad at her about it. Especially if Peter's in on it.

"I know you've got it," he says. "I'm still gonna worry about you. I worry about all the Boys."

He gently kicks her foot as a show of understanding.

[ 7AM ] a crowded coffee shop, patrons in a rush to escape the morning rain from tim

Coffee isn’t, like, a huge deal to Mercury. Xe’s got enough energy to last xem without any caffeine. However! The coffee here was one of the best xe’s ever had, so why wouldn’t xe immediately go to it after waking up? Initially xe assumed most of the customers were the same.

Holy shit, the rain hates me.

Turned out, the rain was a great motivator. Xe whistled, must be great for the coffee shop so xe’ll let the rain off the hook. This time. Luckily, xe already had xer coffee and muffin before the rush. Unluckily, xe was still looking for a place to sit.

“Hey there, mind if I take a seat? Don’t think there’s anywhere else I can go aaaand muffin with a dash of rain doesn’t sound very appealing.”

Honestly, xe just wanted to sit down and drink xer coffee before the damn thing turned ice cold. The other person would surely have some sympathy for xem, no?

Why Tim came to his place of work on his day off, he can't really answer without sounding lonely. Which he isn't. He just needed to get away from the Boys, some other friends are at work, and Lorcan... is confusing right now.

So some cold brew, a hot chocolate, and a breakfast croissant and the ambience of a busy morning before he goes for a run in the rain sounded like a good option.

He looks up from his phone when someone asks to sit next to him. Tim doesn't get the vibe of a cop or Croc from xem so Tim nods.

"I don't blame you for not just rushing out with it," he says to xem. "They're better fresh anyway. still warm and moist."

Elinor's hands freeze on their pumpkin, feeling out of place all of a sudden. They really shouldn't be talking about the family situation to anyone, it's just private. And they don't like thinking about losing their father after all this time.

"No. My step mother would get it, probably," Another reason why Elinor will take the free housing while they can, "I mean, she's his wife, so that's makes sense. I have plans to move out, of course, I just... um, something always comes up."

Tim hears their tone and realizes he might've fucked up. He looks up and sees how tense they are and yeah. He really shouldn't have said that. Or at least worded it better.

"Right," he says, trying to sound light and understanding. "It's a shit time to move anyway. Pretty sure I've got some of the cheapest rent in town and it's still pretty high. No point in just up and leaving if you don't have to."

He makes his last major cut then offers the knife to Elinor as well as a metaphorical olive branch.

"If you want, I can show you how to carve little details. Or you can show me something. I don't know if I'm really doing any of this right."

It would be so easy to forget where they are right now. Forget Tim ever left him in the first place and say all the things they've both kept bottled up for years. A few breaths of cold air enter Lorcan's lungs though, and he also gives himself a second to think. It's a warming, safe feeling to hold each other, but the fear of it being fleeting encroaches in. This was just impulses, and he'd absolutely die inside if Tim regretted this in the morning. Or worse, was just tipsy this whole time and didn't actually have any part of him that wanted this.

"Okay. We shouldn't," Lorcan clears his throat and pulls their foreheads a sliver further apart. The dealer's arms give a squeeze to Tim's waist, but then part so his hands can feel their way up Tim's back, up his ribs, and landing securely on his shoulders, "Tim, you should probably... take the night. Go on home."

He can't let Tim ask for a kiss again, because he'd be he'd be on his knees again in an instant. Metaphorically, of course.

"And if you want. You can call me in the morning," Though they'd probably have to unblock each other's numbers, "Or you know where to find me."

Even the slow movements Lorcan takes to separate them feels like a flash. Cold seeping in where his warm body had just been. It feels like a microcosm of what their breakup had been and that has Tim fighting down tears. It's not a breakup. Lorcan is saying they should talk again.

He's reaching out for Tim and offering his hand again.

Tim nods and deliberately takes a step back, Lorcan's hands slipping from his shoulders.

"Okay. Of course you still live in that old place, don't you?"

It doesn't feel complete but Tim has to tell himself that that's a good thing. Because this isn't over yet. Tim backs up toward the edge where the ladder is, keeping his gaze on Lorcan until he has to turn. Instead of just going down the ladder though, he uses it to jump to the next building over, catching himself on the edge and pulling up easily.

When he turns to see Lorcan, he grins and then blows a kiss to him before running off to the next roof. And the next.
