Weaving through time, space and memory
For the majority of people, the Bayeux Tapestry is more than just fabric, as it tells a story while being a celebrated piece of history. The same applies to these Navajo weavers in this short PBS documentary.
Through traditional techniques and modern expression, these Navajo weavers work to preserve history, identity and knowledge. They also keep alive a storytelling tradition, which has been passed down the generations.

'An Enduring Relationship' is a landmark book and website which highlights a collection of over 3,600 treaties, maps, letters and legal documents. These bring to life a fascinating history between the British Crown and the Iroquois Confederacy, Chickasaw, Muscogee Creek, Cherokee and Choctaw nations.
Drawn from various sources, Baroness Nicholson explains; 'An Enduring Relationship' reveals "the depth and formality of the relationships between the British Crown and Indigenous Nations of North America in the decades before the United States came into being."

Making history with an enduring relationship
Since 9/11, we've heard allot of people talk about the 'Special Relationship' that Great Britain has with the United States of America. But what does this actually mean?
As Baroness Emma Nicholson writes in An Enduring Relationship; “History is never only about the past. It shapes identity, law, and justice in the present."
Earlier this year, history was made between England, Scotland and the Muscogee Nation in Oklahoma, the USA. This was the first Muscogee Nation delegation in modern history, to the UK.
In this podcast, Jason Salsman recalls meeting Baroness Emma Nicholson, visiting Westminster, along with a journey to Edinburgh where the Nation completed the first international repatriation to the USA.
In pursuit of the great American novel
“The road is life” and this picture shows Caroline Kerouac with her brother Jack Kerouac. This picture was taken in March 1943 and while Jack Kerouac found fame with titles such as 'On The Road', his other novels included 'Maggie Cassidy', 'The Town and the City' and 'Vanity of Duluoz'.
While writer's like John Steinbeck had previously illustrated the hardships of American lives pre-WW2, when Jack Kerouac came along, the pursuit of freedom from America's post-WW2 conventions became the goal. “There was nowhere to go but everywhere, so just keep on rolling under the stars.”

Who said football isn't political? If you lived in the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) or the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany), then the 1974 World Cup was very political.
'A total of 60,200 fans – including some 1,500 East German citizens – packed into the Volksparkstadion to witness a piece of history: the first and only meeting between the German full national teams'.
The German Democratic Republic, or GDR, was a socialist state that existed from 1949 until 1990, in the part of Germany that was the Soviet occupied zone after the Second World War.

In 2016, 'Loving' told the real-life story of Richard and Mildred Loving, a Virginia couple who in 1958, were arrested because their marriage was illegal. They appealed their case and on the 12th June, 1967, won a landmark civil rights ruling at the US Supreme Court.
