WOMEN'S DEVELOPMENT CENTER THE FIRST GROUP OF 2017 GRADUATES RECEIVING THEIR SEWING MACHINE
ANNOUNCING TRAILBLAZER'S INAUGURAL RAFFLE... Your contribution could be matched dollar-for-dollar. Welcome to Trailblazer's first ever raffle. This is an opportunity for you to possibly win a product that is made in, or focused on, Cambodia, while at the same time supporting Trailblazer's work. All proceeds from this raffle will go toward the purchase of twenty-five sewing machines, which Trailblazer will give to graduates of a five-and-a-half month sewing training for local women. This project is part of Trailblazer's Economic Development program. To learn more, and to purchase tickets, visit the link below. http://ow.ly/Ex1h30frGri

Recently, co-founder and executive director Chris Coats traveled to Trailblazer's original headquarters -- the town of Jackson Hole. Chris' primary motivation for the trip was an evening "meet and greet" that long time Trailblazer supporters Rose and Ron Novak hosted at their home. Twenty-four people attended the event, where Chris talked about Trailblazer's purpose and programs during an informal cocktail hour. Please keep Trailblazer in mind if you would like to host an event.
As you likely recall from recent posts, we at Trailblazer Foundation are seeking funding to purchase new well drilling equipment for our team in Cambodia. To date, we have raised a little more than $16,000 of our $20,000 goal. Now, we are on our final push to secure the money we need to provide 500+ rural Cambodians each year with a new well, and thus cleaner, safer water. And our very supportive friends at Friendly Planet Travel, through their Friendly Planet Foundation, have committed to providing the final $2,500 toward the $20,000. All they ask is that our other supporters get us to the $17,500 mark. There is still time to support this campaign. We are grateful for any support. Thank you. http://ow.ly/DVub30dUbiD

The picture below shows some of the beautiful handmade scarves that can be purchased @footprintcafes this week to support the #WomansDevelopmenCenter. Trailblazer has been informally supporting the Center for a few years now. For 2017, Trailblazer has committed to purchasing and donating 20 sewing machines to the Center, to be given to the Center's training graduates; and helping the Center increase sales of its graduates' textiles by collaborating with the Center to enlist tour companies to visit and shop at the Center while on route to or from Angkor Wat, as well as enlist shops in Siem Reap City to sell the Center's textile wares.
REFLECTIONS FROM THE DEPARTING COUNTRY DIRECTOR FOR THE WORLD BANK
At the end of June, the World Bank’s Ulrich Zachau will end his tenure as the institution’s country director for Cambodia. In this interview with Khmer Times, Mr. Zachau reflects on the value of education, and outlines three ways to help farmers raise their productivity and incomes. Trailblazer Foundation is pleased to read how yet another expert in the field of international development has indirectly endorsed our comprehensive rural community development strategy. Through our Health, Food Security and Economic Development Programs, Trailblazer is supporting farmers in [1] improved irrigation and water management; [2] learning higher-earning, lower-cost farming practices; and [3] diversifying to grow higher value added crops. Addressing Mr. Zachau’s main recommendation for Cambodia, Trailblazer Foundation is committed to building a new school each year to help rural students gain an education. You can learn more about all these efforts at our website: https://www.thetrailblazerfoundation.org/
As part of this most recent trip to the Bay Area, Chris and Tom gave a presentation to staff at Punchcut, a design company which specializes in strategy and user experience design for mobile, connected products and services. One of Punchcut's team, Nick Munro, is a former Trailblazer volunteer in Cambodia, and organized the lunchtime meeting at his workplace. We thank Nick and Punchcut for hosting us, and are grateful for the interesting conversation we had with the staff there. You can learn more about Nick's volunteer experience with Trailblazer here: https://lnkd.in/g2NJHCJ
Recently, Trailblazer's Chris Coats and Tom Skeele traveled to the San Francisco Bay Area for meetings with existing donors and potential project partners. As Chris explained in our recent newsletter, she will increasingly be traveling to parts of the states (and eventually overseas) to visit with those of you who provide the funding, partnerships, or community connections Trailblazer needs to implement our programs. You can learn more about Chris' plans to visit more supporters throughout the US and beyond in our Spring 2017 newsletter: https://lnkd.in/g_2Nxje
