Female characters are flat plot devices, the morality always centers around the protagonists, the initial premise of Helluva has been lost for a toxic love interest (who was meant to be the villain initially). There is no end goal. No theme... No story. Just things happening on a whim, and characters doing things. Villains popping in and out, just to be forgotten again. Worldbuilding and caste systems that don't add up to anything- and they NEVER get explained. What even IS Helluva Boss's plot anymore?
How can this show even be called "art"? At the bare minimum, it can't even be considered storytelling. Because there is no deeper story or message going on here... Viv is not making art. She doesn't understand what real art is. Right now she is curating a Fandom of poorly written ocs and calls it a TV show.
Even if she cares about her ocs, they feel exploitative rather than genuine. She aspires it to be Bojack, but she is not capable of writing something like that.
When taking a step back, Hell is barely a setting to her in the first place. Her characters happen *around* it.
She does not get why people create art, or even the core principles of writing. She doesn't want to create or improve the ways in which she creates. She wants income and a blind audience that will nod at any decision she makes. If she wanted to create, she would have credited the ex-friend of hers who wrote the entirety of Hazbin Hotel's pilot for her BECAUSE SHE COULDN'T DO IT HERSELF. Because SHE CAN'T WRITE and will never ass herself to learn, even now, as a professional, full-time showrunner.
If she wanted to create art and uplift queer voices, truly, she wouldn't have had that one guy work on Angel Dust's assault scene. She wouldn't have had someone attracted to somebody else's trauma working with other survivors of said trauma. Not only is it ignorant, but plain fucking stupid.
I don't think Vivzie will go down in the indie hall of fame. Genuine LGBT products, ethically made ones, like Butterfly Soup already have.
