okay i need to gather my thoughts into something coherent and there's SO much more to unpack here than byler but first, for the byler doubters

will accepting himself unattached to mike's love for him is actually essential to byler being happy and NOT the unhealthy relationship we've already seen from mileven.

if will's WHOLE arc was self acceptance it wouldn't have happened in episode 4 it would have been put off til the end which means

the only other place for his character to go is to get the boy or die trying and i KNOW he isn't dying.

robin mentioning shared looks and the next episode them having a bunch of shared looks.

joyce's line about needing someone to believe in you for you to be capable of great things (paraphrasing) being 2 seconds before mike tells will how much he believes in him and what he can do as a "sorcerer"

which empowers will to save the day with his love for mike - the very thing that el failed to do at the end of season 4.

we genuinely couldn't have expected a better setup for volume 1. we were never gonna get confirmation in these first four episodes. but the vision is so so so clear.

I watched Nosferatu (2024) in Feb and immediately knew I'd have to recreate this scene with Will and Vecna at some point. 🧛

I love any byler theory but I don’t like when people think that El’s character is just a plot device or “El actually represents being queer itself🤓☝️”

Like no guys she’s her own character with her own complexities, shes not a metaphor😭

still obsessed with this shot sorry. i think it says so much abt holly and mike's characters this season.

they're both separated from the others, along with karen, highlighting their roles this season. they are the same three vecna warned nancy about in s4. they seem rather emotionally distant from the others, judging from the blocking. i believe this is foreshadowing their individual roles in the supernatural plot this season.

holly is in her own book, hinting that she probably uses fantasy to escape very similarly to mike. mike on the other side happens to have switched to coffee. this signifies possible stress in his life and restlessness, being met with the reality of his issues and life. i mean, we've been watching his mental health slowly deteriorate. but now i think everything is finally coming to the surface and getting its focus, which will tie into the supernatural. his coffee contrasts with holly's fantasy novel. reality vs fantasy.

it seems to me that holly and mike are definitely going to bond over fantasy, and i think mike is the one who encourages her to turn to it. perhaps she's struggling at school due to bullying, or she just feels different. he's definitely the reason why she gets into dnd. but while mike encourages it for her, i think he himself might actually be losing grip and unable to keep hiding from his problems through it, and he is going to face the harsh consequences of it by the end of the season.
