Can someone please tell me who is centering trans men in any of this?

Focusing on transfems and transfemicide is important and should be our primary focus. However ignoring transmasc murder and erasure doesn’t help with that. I’d even go as far to say that the murder and erasure of transmasculine people in records of their murder is a form of femicide, too. At least that’s the intention of it. It’s to mislabel the trans man as a woman in order to erase his transness and add him to the list of cisgender femicide

The fact that a lot of people are convinced trans and intersex athletes who take testosterone will never ever be as good as pericis men because "the science" points to "lack of lung capacity" or "poor bone development" or whatever and yet they are still overwhelmingly barred from competing if they take T even in mixed gender or men-only sporting events due to doping rules should really tell you all you need to know about how much of this is just scientific theater.

It took me forever to figure out how anyone could reasonably claim that trans men weren’t directly targeted by the EO about “protecting women and girls from gender ideology” until I thought about how that phrasing would be interpreted if you’re thinking of trans women and only trans women. Now I’m slightly less irritated with people saying only trans women are gonna get hit by the EOs and switching from “are you fucking for real right now, like are you just pretending this isn’t even here” to “hey I thought about how this would apply to trans women, can you do the same for trans men?”

If your focus is solely on trans women, “protecting women and girls from gender ideology” means not letting trans women into women’s bathrooms or locker rooms, which is enforced by forcibly detransitioning them legally and socially. The idea being to “protect” cis women from trans women existing near them.

If you focus on trans men tho, “protecting women and girls from gender ideology” means denying them any sort of medical transition and then forcibly detransitioning them legally and socially because the “women” you’re trying to “protect” are both the trans men themselves and the egg transmascs near them who might consider transitioning because they now see it as an option. (See: the common rhetoric of trans men perpetuating a “social contagion” and giving your “daughters” “ROGD.”). This is also why it mentions FGM; they’re not talking about actual female genital mutilation, they’re talking about transmasculine bottom surgery. Phalloplasty is like +$100k and no insurance covers it, so basically anyone who was saving up for it just got told to go fuck themselves.

Not to mention no matter what their ASAB was, nonbinary people are going to be hit but in a way that lumps them in with trans women and trans men based on ASAB. They are just as screwed as the rest of us.

I’m just saying, it would help so much if y’all would just read something and think about how it affects multiple different types of people.

This is the problem with feminism that lacks the voices of transmascs & trans people assigned female. We are still operating under the cissexist assumption that misogyny affects only women, and that women are the only real victims of the patriarchy. This is not less cissexist if you define "women" by gender identity rather than assigned sex. Trans women are not the only trans people and the rest of us still experience both transphobia from cisfeminism and misogyny from the patriarchy.

If your inclusion of trans people in feminism is solely about broadening the definition of "woman," and not broadening your understanding of misogyny and gender marginalization, it is still cisfeminism. It will still fail trans people. Fundamental to recognizing anti-transmasculinity is understanding how ATM is rarely something explicitly stated; it very, very often is phrased in ways which purposefully obscure transmasculinity as a factor.

I really appreciate this post. It provided me a lot of insight into the difficulties trans men are undergoing with this administration.

It's easy to feel that trans women are the primary targets of this hateful regime, given that we're the ones who are mentioned by name in anti trans legislation and rhetoric. But that's the classic dichotomy the two halves of our community have faced since before any of us were born: Trans women are acknowledged to exist, but only as predatory men who need to be eradicated; meanwhile trans men are erased from history, pushed into forcible detransition and categorized as the same breeding chattel as cis women.

All transgender people are equally at risk under Trump's rule. Whether their end goal for us is v-coding or life as breeding stock, we all have reason to fear. It's important we work to understand each other's plights and band together.
