Listen, I’m not healed. I’m not fully recovered. I’m like, wearing a cast. (Metaphorically, the meds, the therapist. They’re a crutch to aid my healing.) But someday... I would like it very much if someday I would be able to sit down at a table alone, completely alone, and eat a slice of cake. The whole slice, maybe even two. And I won’t cry, I won’t be awash with shame, or worry. I’d just enjoy it. Every crumb. I’ll lick the frosting off the plate and order a coffee, too. Someday, cake will be a harmless, joyful, thing. what it was meant to be.
