The Ombre  - The Growing Hairstyle Trend, Bold And Coloured.

Ombre hair has added a new twist to the hair colouration technique . Having a variety of colours to choose from, for your hair, can be exciting and sometimes daunting. Whatever the case, it takes courage to switch from the African black hair to another colour.  Ombre is originally a french word, meaning shaded or shading. Whichever hair team you belong to -natural, dreads, permed, cut, braids, weave-  a little splash of colour could work some magic and give you a whole new chic look. With ombre, the hair is generally darker at the roots through the mid-shaft and then gradually gets lighter from the mid-shaft to the ends.

Ombre hair colour is  usually a graduation of a lighter shade to  a darker shade of a colour from the roots of the hair to the ends. It is also known as dip-dye. If done rightly, ombre hair should look good on you. Transitioning with subtle colours like brown and burgundy for ombre are cool. But have no hesitation to express yourself with any dramatic and bold colours like red, blue, purple or blonde. With such a pop of colour, be ready to get heads turning your way.

Ombre on natural hair, permed hair or locs requires maintenance and care. Regular conditioning and treatment of hair will reduce breakage and split ends. Colouration or Balayage ( a free form high lighting technique. Usually a powder lightener is used to paint individual strands of hair) must be done often to maintain the ombre.

For braids, ombre kanekalons can be used. Alternatively, combine different individually coloured packs of kanekalon to achieve the look. Ombre hair extensions are available for weaves.

Three Quick Hairstyle Hacks

On days which I have the luxury of time, I spend hours fixing beautiful hairstyles. As ladies, we go all out to get beautiful hairdos - finding extensions, the right salon, and  the appropriate hairdresser. For me, compromising on the outcome of a hairstyle is not an option.  Unfortunately, I have been busy lately and time constraint has informed my quest to find quick fixes and hacks for my hairdos. I always look for styles that would not take too much of my time. Check out my three favourites.

Buns

Whether your hair is permed or natural, think of a bun as a go-to. You can fix a bun with your own hair or support with artificial bun. If you want to use your hair only, make sure your hair is, at least, at neck length. You will need a few bobby pins,  hair bands and optionally, an artificial bun. To begin with, hold a ponytail. Then divide it into two sections and each section around the pony in a circular manner ,creating a puff in the process. Go ahead and secure with bobby pins. If you use the artificial bun, pin it to your hair or roll your hair around it. Don't forget to secure with bobby pins. Bun takes about 5 minutes to fix. Quick and beautiful.

Fat Cornrows

Fat cornrows are always in vogue. A quick fix will usually have  2 – 6 rows. Depending on how fast your hairdresser is, it can take between 30-45 minutes to fix. When kept well, it can last for at least 3 weeks.  For this style, you will need one or two packs of  Kanekalon hair depending on the length,  and a talented hairdresser . You can clip some hair beads or metal cuffs to the tails . Fat cornrow protects the hair and prevents breakage. Get creative with the lines, curves and length to get your personal taste. And do not forget to lay down your edges.

Wig Caps

Gradually, wig caps are becoming a part of every woman's wardrobe. Personally, I love them. Wig caps saves me time and money. Quality hair extensions are expensive and one way to wear them long term is to have it made in the form of a wig cap. Get a durable piece of extension and find a good salon to get it done. Have varied styles and lengths to switch to any day. Alternatively, you can purchase a ready-made wig cap in a hair shop near you.
