2. Churrigueresque Church
The church's original building was completed in 1575. Throughout its hundreds of years of existence, the church had held firm in the face of several calamities. Unfortunately, the Lady Caycay was stretched a little too far, and an earthquake in 1948 destroyed it, leaving only the façade, bell tower, and a few columns of the convent standing. It was progressively restored after that, with the final touches on the inside finished in 1994 under the direction of the parish priest at the time, Father Eleuterio Rojo Carton.
It may have been a gift in disguise because it resulted in one of the most stunning contemporary interiors, complete with colorful stone murals. At first sight, it may appear to be simply another painting on the wall, but upon closer inspection, you will be surprised at how the painters assembled minute tile-like squares into magnificent religious pictures.
A variety of intricate mosaics can be seen throughout the cathedral, including the Stations of the Cross on both sides of the church, the Lady of Fatima, and the depiction of Adam and Eve being expelled from the Garden of Eden, among other things.
As soon as you enter the church, if you look on your right side, there is a tiny grotto, which is a favorite site for the worship of the Child Jesus. A little distance away is a chamber where parishioners and guests light candles and say brief prayers. As you visit the abode of their Father, you may appreciate art and get a taste of the Ilonggos' steadfast faith, particularly the people of Tigbauan.
3. Monument
The Panay Landing Memorial commemorates the location where American forces landed on the beach of Parara, Tigbauan on March 18, 1945, to begin the liberation of Panay Island. The Japanese force on Panay numbered between 2000 and 2350 troops. When the American forces arrived, they were met by Philippine rebels "stiff in starched khaki and dazzling in jewelry." By the time American soldiers arrived, the well-organized resistance fighters had taken control of the vast majority of the island.
