Wet steps are taken in the rain, the vessel with the hidden mask walks swiftly over the cobblestone of Greymoor. The Veil was completed, the vessel: giddy.

Fog rolled in over the piers, blurring vision and hiding way for the mites looking for prey. The vessel kicked one such mite out of its way, but in the process lost perception. It walks straight into a bug that was about its size.

[Trivago had been carefully stalking a Tallcraw, who had lost its way in the fog. Classic. Their trident-spear was raised aside their head, almost ready to throw and strike the Tallcraw when..]

[They're bumped into, their balance is lost, and their trident-spear is shot off target. It strikes to the right of the Tallcraw, and the target is alerted. It squawks and flies away, supposedly getting more lost in the process.]

[Frustrated, Trivago turns around to see who, or what, had rid them of their kill.]

"Pardon me, Trivago. It is simply hard to make way in this fog. I sincerely hope you can find another target to hunt."

Trivago could see the red figure, but not much more. For example, the tiny Shade beside the cloaked stranger was entirely unnoticed until it flew up to the hunter to admire their weapon.

"I have not said a single word, and yet you know my name. How is that, foe-saver? And who is it with you?"

[Their second question was quickly answered when the small shade came uncomfortably close. Now that they were distracted from their hunt again, their antennae picked up vibrations unseen by bugs without.]

"Not a local bug? Pilgrim, or other?"

[Trivago only asked this, for the hooded figure did not have visible antenna. All the bugs and craws of Greymoor had them, to be able to sense danger nearby, despite the constant haziness of the land around.]

"I know things others do not. I know what bugs think. And trust me, I am neither foe nor saver. It was all happenstance. I can see your distrust though. As of my company, it is called Them."

Them went forth to the stranger, spinning happily in the rain, waving its stubby arms begging for pats.

"We are vessels... Well, I am. Them is a Shade. We do not need antennae."

"Mind.. reading..? I have no knowledge of bugs that can do things such as this."

['Odd bug. Vessel? Shade? Never heard of it. Untrustful? Possibly. Keep weapon ready. In case of attack. Feels.. wrong..']

"Them..? Odd name for an odd bug. You may already know my name, but I shall introduce myself anyways. Name's Trivago. Threadraker, Crawhunter."

[Trivago tentatively reaches a claw out to gently poke the shade, quite curious despite their cautious stance.]

The Shade seems to giggle as it covers itself with the tiny arms.

"Yes, it is a unique ability, one I mastered decades ago."

The vessel extends a hand, acting like it proposed a handshake, but the claws immediately warped into a whip of Void which swatted the weapon out of Trivago's hands. The weapon clatters over the stone and is hidden by mist.

"Precautions, stranger. That thing only triggered your fight or flight instincts. I'd rather have you run away, so I just removed fight as an option."

"So it is an ability obtained through growth? Not hatched with?"

[Trivago hisses in a sharp breath as their weapon tumbles away from their claws, disappearing into the fog. Their wormlike body twists to watch their trident-spear vanish under the heavy air.]

[They turn back around, trying their best to keep their cool.]

"Trident for safety. Not for harm. Was only going to use if I was harmed first. Simply caution, you see."

"Of course! But you see,-" the vessel turns its arm up in the air and grasps for nothing with its fist. For a second, nothing happened, then white Soul essence fell and gathered in its palm followed quickly by the corpse of a tallcraw crashing down. "-if you allow yourself to be attacked by me, you wouldn't be able to retaliate."

The vessel giggles softly as it scratches Them in between its horns, purrs come from the little Shade as it cozies into the vessel's hand.

[A glint of fear shows from behind the eye-holes of Trivago's mask.]

"....I.. see..."

[They could be nothing but envious to see the bond between the Vessel and its shadow. Their siblings had all moved on with their lives, and Trivago was too different now to search for them. And with the red-cloaked bug's slaughter of many of their kind.. they'd rather stay hoping they were alive than knowing that they were dead.]

"I do hope your siblings are okay as well. Mine...well, let's just say that they are mountains. But I best be going before these new garbs get destroyed by the moisture. I'll let you have the craw as a sign of good fate."

The mystical stranger clacks its foot in the ground, opening a Void rift where it struck. From it rises Trivago's trident-spear to the vessel's hand. It grabs the tool and hands it over to the other bug as it walks by in silence. The rift closes with a wail.

"..Alright then. It is as you wish, then."

[Trivago cautiously takes their trident-spear back from the Vessel, holding it in two claws as they slowly move forward to take the corpse of the Tallcraw in the other two.]

"It was a pleasure to meet you. If you do come by again, I would not dislike a visitor in these times."

[They call out as the vessel disappears into the fog. What an interesting encounter..]
