Class of Nuke ‘em High

Here goes another classic Troma review. This film is easily recognizable for his outlandish character design and it’s horrifying monster.

In this movie Tromaville highschool, located right next to a nuclear power plant, is experiencing some issues caused by constant radiation leaks and poor power plant management. The old honor roll becomes a group of mutated punk freaks hell bent on destroying the school and everyone in it. These old honor roll students begin to sell weed grown on power plant grounds which begins to poison the students and causes very undesirable effects in our main characters causing the birth of an unholy worm creature.

This is another Troma movie I didn’t like very much. I loved the costumes and special effects but the dialogue and plot just didn’t do it for me. I admit it’s funny and I recommend a watch because it truly is a classic but for me it was an absolute snore fest.

Doggie Tales

This bizarre ashort film features James Gunn of Super and Gaurdians of the Galaxy fame. A small dog is sent to a kennel while his owners go on vacation and he is very scared

The other dogs at the kennel teach the new addition to be more fearless and know that this is a fun place. When he is scared he can just imagine a doggie playground that he can play at whenever he wants.

This is by far the strangest Troma movie I have ever seen, and let me tell you that Dolphinman is up there. I actually hate this movie and this is the first time I have said that about any piece of Troma cinema. The voices are grating and there is no discernable plot, no apparent reason for any of the shenanigans going on here. However, I still reccomend you watch it and get an idea for yourself just how odd this movie is. If anyone knows the reason it was made please enlighten me.

Tromeo and Juliet

This is another review sans pictures as I watched it on television. This is arguably one of my favorite Troma movies, or at least in the top 5! This sex filled, modern retelling of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet really hits the spot. 

In this film the Capulets have a feud with the Que’s caused by a life long rivalvry that nobody really knows the whole story of. Tromeo Que goes to a party and meets the girl of his dreams Juliet Capulet. Unfortunately for the star crossed lovers Juliet’s father has promised her to another, the prince of deli meats in all of Tromaville.

The first 30 minutes of this movie is pure pornography, definitely not for the faint of heart. I really wished I hadn’t started watching it in front of my parents but hey who gives a shit. After the mindless sex there is some violence and plenty of romance.

My favorite part of this movie is how close to it’s original it truly is. There are several scenes where the dialogue turns into the actual lines from Shakespeare’s play. The twist at the end will leaving groaning with the largest smile on your face. This is one Troma movie you don’t want to miss!

Dolphinman Battles the Sex Lobsters

This is the first short film in the troma archives I will be writing about and I got to say that as soon as I saw the trailer I was hooked

This fillm follows the exploits of Sgt. Kabukiman (review for his stand alone movie coming soon). Kabukiman gets the worsst case of an STD uknown to man...SEX LOBSTERS!

He believes that he gets them from his favorite prostitute but an even more diabolical fiend exists whose plan is to clone Kabukiman so he can have sex with him forever.

My only issue with this is that it is too short. I believe dolphiinman has the ability to create a great franchise. The rubber dolphin mask and its gross movements really tickle the funny boner and his dolphin chatter di0alogue had my sides splitting. In short give this short film a chance. The music rocks and the laser effects are sub par making this an unforgettable troma experience.

Electric Apricot

Hello everyone! Back again with another review here for you sans pictures. The movie I watched this weekend is called Electric Apricot and boy was it a blast. This movie was written and directed by Les Claypool of Primus fame. This is a music mockumentary a la Spinal Tap about a strugggling jam band on their way to play Festeroo, a burning man esque festival in the middle of the woods.

The movie features plenty of funny cameos from Matt Stone from South Park, Seth Green from Robot Chicken, and members of the Grateful Dead and Govt Mule.

This film had me rolling on the floor laughing. The dialogue was clever and endearing; very true to life in the situations they were put. This movi0e however you look at it was just like Spinal Tap.

The band members were in a constant clash and the candid interviews with fans were absolutely hilarious. One particular interview with a bartender at a venue that Electric Apricot played had me in tears when he says that he is glad Jerry Garcia is dead because The Greatful Dead are a stain on music history.

If you love music and festivals and have the tiniest knowledge of jam bands you will love this movie. I just have one question for you: Hey are you going to Burning Man?

B.C. Butcher

Welcome back to another review where this time I am taking a look at a film called…

This film was written and directed by a girl named Kansas Bowling. I am not trying to be belittling here, she wrote the film when she was only 15 and filmed it in it’s entirety at 17. The film features the voice of Kadeem Harrison as the narrator, Leilani Fielder as the “Heroine,” with special appearances by Kato Kaelin and Dwayne Johnson.

In B.C. Butcher, a small tribe of cave people (mainly focusing on four main cave women) and their fight against an unknown entity known only as “The Butcher.” The film begins with the head of the cave people finding out that one of her followers has been sleeping with her man Rex. The offender is killed and her insides are eaten and she is left to decay so that her flesh may be consumed at a later date.

Rex turns out to be a flirt and as soon as his last lover is killed, he goes straight to another follower. Promises of running away together don’t come to fruition as they begin to have sex. During this steamy scene which involves Kato Kaelin’s extremely unsettling laugh, “The Butcher” comes and kills both of them.

One by one characters begin to drop like flies at the hands of this maniac who believes that the dead followers are making him kill more.

I had very high hopes for this movie, it being the first pre-historic slasher film ever made. The sound design was truly awful, but in the best way possible. The sound of the monster reminded me of a Casio keyboard left out in the rain for a couple of days. 

The music used, by a band called The Ugly Kids, fit well with the tone but at some points it felt like I was watching an hour long music video rather than a slasher film. 

The editing and camera work were great and it was made even more impressive that it was all done on 16mm film and was directed by a 17 year old.

I was really excited to watch this movie after seeing a promo for it on Troma’s webpage. In the end I liked it, but not as much as some of their other releases. I have mad props for Kansas and her team for pulling off such an entertaining movie and at such an extremely low budget. It has charisma and what it lacks stylistically it makes up for in just being fun. I was laughing my ass off for most of the movie. Don’t watch this first if you are just becoming familiar with Troma and their films. It’s budget is lower, it is not as grandiose, and the dialogue doesn’t have the same wit that you see in films like Tromeo and Juliet.

The Toxic Avenger!

Hello everyone and welcome to Troma Town, USA, the blog where I try and watch every single movie the Troma Team catalog has to offer.

For my first review I will be talking about a Troma Classic, The Toxic Avenger! This film was first released on April 11th, 1986  and is arguably the most popular Troma release, eventually receiving three sequels and an animated television series.

The Toxic Avenger follows Melvin (played by Mark Torgl) who is the janitor at the local Tromaville Health Club. He is constantly bullied and mistreated. One day a group of thugs take it too far and Mitchell takes a fall into a vat of toxic waste. The chemicals alter his body and strength and he becomes...

THE TOXIC AVENGER!!!!!!!! Dedicated to keeping the streets of Tromaville clean from corruption and gangs, The Toxic Avenger goes around town violently dispatching any ne’er-do-well in the most horrific way possible.

In true Troma Team fashion, this movie is not for everyone. Excessive gore, language, nudity, and campy dialogue makes this movie hard to stomach if you are not ready for it. However, it’s complete disregard for any conventional film making practices and its blatant  for any standards set by the film industry makes this film surprisingly endearing. As for plot, there is not much there. Lot’s of violence for the sake of violence and situations that help build up to more violence. What I have gathered is that the town’s corrupt mayor is doing everything in his power to keep the town corrupt and then The Toxic Avenger shows up to ruin all of his plans and save the day. Pretty simple right?  Even the ending which seems to be heartwarming, turns into a pile of gore. But this is a Troma Movie, what were you expecting.

If you are looking for a film to help ease your way into the Troma Catalog, this is the film for you. It’s fast pace and cheesy writing will leave you with a basic understanding of how Troma works and hungry for more.
