‘Wicker,’ Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård Sundance Hit, Sets Theatrical Release Date

Independent studio Black Bear has set an Oct. 23 limited theatrical release for comedic fable “Wicker,” which premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival in January.
“Wicker” will expand nationwide the following week of Oct. 30. Created by Eleanor Wilson and Alex Huston Fischer, the film stars Olivia Colman, Alexander Skarsgård, Peter Dinklage and Elizabeth Debicki and received strong reviews and a standing ovation at its Sundance premiere.
Per the official description, “Wicker” is “an audacious comedic fable about sex, marriage, and the absurdities of social convention. ‘Wicker’ tells the wholly original love story of an ostracized fisherwoman (Colman) who commissions a husband to be made by the local basketmaker (Dinklage). When her wicker husband (Skarsgård) proves more spectacular than she ever imagined, his soulful spirit and unique prowess awaken something inside her, setting off a wave of jealousy, fascination, and upheaval that threatens the very fabric of village life.”
The film is adapted from Ursula Wills’ short story “The Wicker Husband,” and features cinematography by Lol Crawley (“The Brutalist”), production design by Renátó Cseh (“Poor Things”), costumes by András Dániel Tóth and Attila Godena-Juhász, a score by Anna Meredith (“Eighth Grade”) and work from the design shop, Wētā Workshop (“Avatar,” “The Lord of The Rings”).

The film was financed by Tango and Topic Studios with Tim Headington, Lia Buman, Ryan Heller and Michael Bloom producing alongside South of The River’s Colman, Ed Sinclair, and Tom Carver; Yoki, Inc’s David Michôd and Brad Zimmerman; and Justin Lothrop and Brent Stiefel for Votiv, who originated and financed development, as well as Andrea Cornwell and Oliver Kassman. Executive producers include Ian Stratford, Jasmine Daghighian, Jennifer Westin, Neil Shah, Max Silva, and Lina Stroud.
In addition to releasing “Wicker” domestically, Black Bear will also oversee international sales of the film and will release it directly in the UK and in Canada via its subsidiary, Elevation Pictures.
“Wicker” joins Black Bear’s growing slate of releases, including “Tuner” and “The Rivals of Amziah King.”

So, given the choice, I'd rather wear nothing at all. Even if the police were to object to me walking around naked in Madrid, that would still be my first choice! But if that risks landing me in jail, well... I brought two pairs of black cotton shorts from Cos with me. They're identical, so when one is in the wash, I can put the other on. I haven't worn a pair of long pants in a month. I've been wearing these shorts every single day.

While I’m not sure I’m ready to embrace Skarsgård’s first piece of summer advice, I definitely feel ready to put his second piece of advice into practice—the writer has had a single, versatile pair of shorts that he’s worn for years.
By the time I'd told Alexander and begged him not to provoke the Spanish police, it was time to end the Zoom call and say our goodbyes.
“I’ll try not to get arrested!” he replies before disappearing from my screen.

How great! He is a clothes horse. I like to see what he says. And if we were in Spain, we would have opportunity to look up his shorts legs perhaps anytime anywhere - having fun all summer long.
