Black Girls and British Reality TV Shows

(This was written a week ago, the events discussed may no longer correlate but are still relevant) 

Over the past couple weeks I have noticed the common theme of black girls going on white dominated shows in which they are either ostracised or demonised. This was shown in the recent season (Season 13) of The Apprentice, Tiffany Pollard on Celebrity Big Brother (2016) and now Samira on Love Island. It makes me question whether black girls should even appear on these shows when the outcome is so predictable. But it would lead to the debate about misrepresentation if black girls just hid from the media. If we want to recognised we need to be visible and present, right? But what use is this if when we do attempt to be seen, we are technically silenced? Such attempts become useless. 

Samira is currently being treated like Casper the Ghost by the British public. Although both Samira and Alex were at risk from being sent off the island the public only seemed to care about Ale -Even though they both are having relationship issues. At least Alex gained some form of interest from someone on the island, Samira still is being played for a mug. But WE MUST SAVE DOCTOR  ALEX!1! 

The British public’s attitude towards Samira is very transparent but this isn’t a surprise. This country loves to sugar coat and water down their racism. No one wants to say with their chest that they truly don’t like or acknowledge Samira because she’s a black girl. But that’s a discussion for another day. 

 Now the producers are adding two new girls to the island (a total of five new girls have been added) giving Alex a greater chance of finding love and Samira greater chance of being dashed from the island. A part of me is rooting for my girl to find love and hang on tight - after all she has managed to keep her leave out in tact during this mess, I applaud her - but I can’t keep seeing her taking all these L’s, it just makes me pity her. There are some benefits to Samira’s experience on the show, it will give her exposure. However will she even get media deals when she barely gets any screentime? 

At this point, Samira has 10 business days to find a man or else she should just pack her bags.

Can We Stop Body Shaming Now, It’s 2017.

From the title alone, I’m sure you can tell that I am sick and tired of people body shaming women just because they don’t have the ideal body. It’s time to use our common sense - which appears to be not so common - and realise not every woman is shaped with a small waist, big bum and breasts. Do not let Instagram fool you. You can easily walk outside your house and realise Instagram is filled with deception. So why do I constantly hear people making rude comments about another girl for not having that ideal body? That is the way God made her. Who are you to criticise His work? Who are you to belittle her for the body she was born with? It will be the same boys that have become strangers with their barbers that will have so much to say about another woman’s body While you are pushing through that struggle beard you will one day understand a woman’s pain. You will realise these things cannot be helped.

Trust me, I was once a victim of this society’s view of the ideal body. I would do squats like no tomorrow just so I could have more confidence in myself. But God gave me one big fat reality check. I had downloaded the 30 Day Fitness Challenge App. It had included the Butt Challenge and Squat Challenge. I thought this app was perfect. In a matter of 30 days I thought I would have a banging body and no one can make comments about my petite bum no more. After 3 days, my legs were in such pain that I had never felt before. I stupidly hadn’t stretched properly before I began so now my legs were aching. Aching to the extend that I couldn’t walk. I had to throw in the towel. No amount of pain is worth all this effort. There is just no point. I had to later realise that there will be someone that will accept my body for the way that it is and love me for me. Also, most importantly - I had to love me for me. God has made me this way for a reason. Maybe I’m not as lucky as the girls born this way but I am grateful for what I have. I can’t kill myself just for appearance. .  

The same applies for boys too. You can’t kill yourself in the gym. There is a girl out there that will love you for you. Let’s not generalise people’s tastes.

Do You Really Know What Feminism Is?

Ever since I became a feminist a few years ago, I become very familiar with the constant misconception of what feminism is. People have this distorted view of the whole movement involving women that hate men (WRONG) or the fight for women to be superior to men (WRONG AGAIN). Let’s use our common sense - which appears to be not so common - and actually know what feminism is. With the blessing that is technology you would think people would take advantage of this blessing and search the meaning of feminism. But since I’ve had many encounters of people who are too lazy to do so, here’s a little treat: 

Feminism -  he advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.

It’s pretty simple and clear. One sentence. Took five seconds to search. It wouldn’t kill you to make an effort to try understand the movement that you’re so against before arguing inaccurate points. Saves the embarrassment. 

There is is a key phrase within the definition: equality of the sexes. We don’t want women to have upper hand against men. We don’t hate them. All we want is equality. Fairness. Justice. To be treated like humans. I shouldn’t be devalued as a person based on my gender. What I have between my legs makes no difference to my intelligence or performance. It is a wonder why women in power are constantly questioned, with their intelligence belittled and being reduced to be sexualised. We are humans, not a piece of meat for you to lust over. We’re not on this planet to live for you, to please you. Men need to grow up and realise the world doesn’t revolve around them. Women don’t dress nicely to please a random man. Most of the time it’s please ourselves. You look good, you feel good. Also it saves yourself from any stares and gossip on the street. 

I have heard multiple times from some women for us to just accept the inequality, things will never change. Say that to the Suffragettes who literally shed blood, sweats and tears to give you the right to vote. If it wasn’t for female activists, would you even have the right to work right now? We are oblivious to privilege we have because of the women who fought for us. Since I live in a western country, my rights have been gradually improved. However, there are still countries where women can’t drive - an example of a women’s intelligence being belittled - and where women can’t even have an education. Such laws are purposely hindering women away from any social growth. They are forcing women to be below them. We can’t ignore such laws. We can’t just accept it. It sounds immoral for someone to be mistreated just because of their gender. As women it personally doesn’t make sense to not be a feminist. I understand that you live in a developed country where you hardly face any discrimination but we can’t turn a blind eye to this. Once we enter the work field you’ll come to realise that your so developed country also hates women since they pay you less than the man with the same exact job. 

And don’t try argue with a weak response saying why can women hit men and men can’t. WOMEN SHOULDN’T HIT MEN EITHER. Why?! Because it is eeequuaalllliittyyy.

True Intentions

Whenever we get into relationships or simply meeting someone we question whether they are genuine or what their intentions are Especially with the way world currently is, it would be foolish to trust every person you meet. Regardless of the crazies in the world, we should never forget that there are genuine people in the world and we shouldn’t build a wall up against every person we meet. It’s just wise to be cautious. 

The main objective of this post is for people to be aware of the people in our lives, specifically those we have romantic relationships with. For the ladies, the way a guy treats, speaks and acts towards you reflects a lot about his character. If he constantly says inappropriate things to you or about you then you need to question that friendship. I understand attraction, therefore people tend to act upon those emotions. However those friendships with the opposite sex easily get wrongly labeled. No friend of yours would touch you inappropriately. The line has already been crossed. But some people tend to dismiss these red flags and continue with this ‘friendship’. Especially those who have never experienced such friendship before, they are being misinformed about what is normal and what should be accepted. As this friendship prolongs, things will escalate to a possible kiss. I thought you were friends though? That was your bro? Hm. So, the way someone treats will automatically tell you where this friendship stands. Once things become inappropriate that is when you know this friendship has reached a new level. For some people, you can tell they are just looking for something, trying to get something from you if they treat other girls like this too. They’ll be jumping from one girl to the other like a grasshopper. We need to open our eyes and brains, ladies. 

 Don’t get lost in the sauce before you drown in it.

Inconsistency

Inconsistency? The fact or state of being inconsistent. In other words when you are never predictable and strong willed in your actions. When you get an A in one paper and a D in the other. Your actions are never similar with each other, which could make you appear unreliable and hard to read. Because you just never know your next move. You are never confident in your actions because there is an unbalance and uncertainty within yourself.

This is similarly shown in my relationship with God. Through my journey of seeking God, I have been going in and out. Either fully giving him my life or backsliding and putting that on hold. I’ll temporarily give my life to God for a month and then break that relationship for a couple months. A couple months of worldly actions and worldly thoughts. 

Each duration of those couple dangerous months, I feel my life spiraling out of control. With my spirit weakening each second and strong will crumbling before my eyes. I begin to go back to old habits - lying, idolising celebrities, idleness,secular music and swearing - as soon as God no longer has a centre position is my life. The old ways that I once stated that I would leave buried in the ground and a distant stranger, had become very familiar to me to the point I didn’t even recognise the saved me. I knew that with God in my life, it was at peace, it was quieter. But I still chose the world before God - the God Almighty who is even the reason why am I here today. I kept saying “later” or “I will...[go to church]” Knowing very well that those promises I made to myself were constantly broken. But I realised, who knows if later will ever come? I could say I will go to church next week, but that Saturday night, I feel the sudden urge to stay at home and catch some sleep instead. I couldn’t give God just a couple hours of my time but I could give my phone those hours, the hours I could use to strengthen my soul, to repair my relationship with God, to pray. Instead I would choose to lay in bed because “I wasn’t feeling church.” Those thoughts reflected the lack of passion and will I had to pursue God. I knew from right and wrong but I would stubbornly push it to the back of my mind and go on with my day. Not knowing that God knows all. There is no hiding from God. You can keep deceiving yourself but you can’t deceive God. 

The way the world is falling apart right before our eyes, I’ve realised there is no time for “later. There is no time for “when I’m older.” There is no time for dependency on the future. There is no time for inconsistency. Because truthfully the future is not guaranteed. You could die (sorry to be bleak) next week, tomorrow or even tonight. What would you say to God? “I was planning on giving my life to You next week.” You don’t love Him if you put others before Him. The way you sacrifice for those you love, you can sacrifice being within this world for God.

Welcome to My Blog!

Hello, All.

Firstly, I would like to thank those who didn’t scroll past this post and didn’t instantly roll their eyes once they read the title - God bless you. It means a lot that you have taken some [little] time of your day to read my first ever post, which is without a doubt extremely dry and unimpressive (Apologies!) If you want to hear more context from me and are interested in my thoughts, then you can follow me, where we can go through this journey of life together. Just to advice you all, this is a Christian blog...yeah...so you get where I’m going with this. No talk about fashion or celebrities - unless I’m moaning about how they’re the downfall of this world.
