180926 Bigeast Staff Report

Beginning with Saitama Super Arena, “Tohoshinki Live Tour 2018 ~TOMORROW~” started!

Opening today September 26 with Saitama Super Arena and counting in total 33 shows in 8 venues, the nationwide “Tohoshinki Live Tour 2018 ~TOMORROW~” started! Just now we safely finished the first show of the tour! From that first day already there were many cheers from the audience, thank you so much!

The live this time was thought as a challenge to completely change the atmosphere compared to the one of the last tour, “Tohoshinki Live Tour 2017 ~BEGIN AGAIN~”. For choreographies, when the rehearsals for the complicated dance songs were finished, the two members were carefully checking the timing when they had to switch places.

In order to memorize the new production and choreographies, they had rehearsals upon rehearsal every day for about 3 weeks, and still Yunho and Changmin ended up saying “there’s not enough time!” They put together a tough schedule in order to be able to see the smiles of you all who have been waiting for them, and were able to safely wrap up the first performance.

How was it when the two of them came upon the stage with that spirit in them? And then, during the MC, Changmin showed you as promised his impersonation of “that person”, didn’t he? (T/N: he impersonated Tamori-san). Everyone, you know what person I’m talking about right? ^^

It had been about 5 years since the last time they held a performance in Saitama! Just like Yunho said, “we’ll be going to various places, and I’m looking forward to meeting many of you!” – more than anything else, your support becomes their strength, everyone. We will be counting on you for your continuing encouragements!

Also, TB as well came to greet you all in Bigeast ♪ While many fans were surrounding him, some were shouting “We Are~?” and our TB was in high spirits as he took the “T” pose using his full body!! [some parts about TB omitted]

180919 Bigeast Report - TOMORROW release

Today is the release date for Tohoshinki’s highly anticipated new album “TOMORROW”!

Everyone in Bigeast, good evening♪

Today 19/9 Tohoshinki’s new album “TOMORROW” was released!

In addition to the singles that were released when they restarted activities “Reboot” and “Road”, with songs such as the Japanese version of their latest Korean comeback “Destiny (The Chance Of Love)” or their own cover of their single “Asu Wa Kuru Kara ~TOMORROW Version~” that was released in 2006 – making this tune cross time from 12 years before – a nice album has been completed, a perfect symbol of the path the two members of Tohoshinki have walked upon so far ♪

Also, the jacket pictures and the photo booklet give off a strong image of the USA, so much that you could forget that you are in Japan ♪. It was in the middle of July when the weather was still hot, and the shooting took place in Fussa, where you have stylish American-like shops lining up with their roof overhangs!

That day was really so hot, so much that just standing outside you’d be sweating non-stop!

“The scenery is nice but it’s so hot!” Changmin said, holding a hand over his face while he was shooting on a rooftop where the reflected glare of the sun was blinding. Yunho too, “I’m not hot, I’m not hot!” he was talking to himself when he was wearing the trench coat (laughs).

At that moment when Yunho and Changmin were working so hard, they got ice cream from the shooting staff ♪. In the close neighborhood there’s one certain famous ice-cream shop that offers many unusual flavors, and the two enjoyed a moment of pure bliss debating what to choose – “which flavor should we try~?” ^^

Also the theme for the “Bigeast Limited Edition” is “Relaxed attitude”. The moment when they were messing around while riding the bicycle, the scene when they are sitting side by side on the sofa and staff suggested “Changmin-san, try putting your leg on Yunho’s knee!” and Changmin was embarrassed but he put his foot up still (laughs).

Here you catch a glimpse of the good relationship between the two and the staff, it was a shooting that was full of laughter!

Then "Tohoshinki LIVE TOUR 2018 ~ TOMORROW ~" will finally start on the 26th! We are looking forward to a live fully packed with Yunho and Changmin’s appeal, this time different from the one they displayed in their last tour “Tohoshinki LIVE TOUR 2015 ~Begin Again~”♪

[TRANS] August 2017 - SPUR Full Account on Tohoshinki’s comeback

Tohoshinki’s two members have returned! This is our full report of the press conference, for their comeback after two years!

Press conference report

It’s been 2 years and half since SPUR covered WITH Tour with a special edition project. On August 22, after completing a press conference in Seoul the morning of that same day, the two appeared together at the venue in Roppongi Hills (T/N: a district in Tokyo). Starting again to be active as artists, they held a press tour in Korea, Japan and Hong Kong over two days; they came to announce their comeback, using their own words. Now, we will deliver our full account of the press conference along with SPUR’s exclusive pictures.

As soon as the two appeared at the venue of the press conference, a surge of applauses burst out of nowhere, as if a friend who had once promised to meet again had just come back.

“Once again (after two years), I’m Tohoshinki’s Yunho. What I’m feeling now is incredibly powerful (T/N: literally he’s so touched he cannot express how he feels). Although I did my best on my own for the SMTOWN in Japan live, it feels great coming out like this alongside Changmin.” (Yunho)

“I thought I’d get at least about one day of rest after coming back to society but it turned out I wasn’t able to get even one day… (laughter from the entire venue). It is our comeback press conference, and I’m beyond happy that so many people from the press have come to attend it. You could say we feel safe when it comes to activities in Japan, and it feels good standing in front of you all.” (Changmin)

Such were their greetings. They announced that their third nationwide tour of the 5 major domestic Domes would start in November – thus becoming the first foreign artist to hold such a tour three times – as well as the release of a comeback memory album, “FINE COLLECTION～Begin Again～”.

This album was presented as a compilation, containing 40 Tohoshinki songs loved by many people and the music videos of 23 songs.

“In particular, there are songs holding memories of the moments we shared with everyone during lives, crying and laughing together while we sang. We also chose 3 songs that we re-recorded, because we want to show how we have improved compared to the past when it comes to our singing and our Japanese pronunciation. We are confident regarding that piece of our work, and I think you will all appreciate it.” (Changmin)

“This album is filled with the feelings of the two of us. The songs in his album are easy to understand, we want it to be fun (to listen to).” (Yunho)

“Rising Sun”,” Why did I fall in love in you” and “Bolero” are the three songs that were recorded again – what kind of feeling will they bring us with those new singing voices? The release in October will come very soon, even so we can’t wait.

Tohoshinki was also asked to tell their message to the fans.

“You’ve always been waiting for us for the past two years, you stayed with unchanging feelings until the two of us returned. We are thankful. So that the time you spent waiting will not be wasted, so that you will not regret it, we want to show you only the Tohoshinki that works their hardest, the full power of the two of us. You can count of us.” (Changmin)

“During our next performance, using this special feeling of having waited (for this moment) for two years, I want to show clearly that thing called ‘so this is Tohoshinki’. I really thank you for having given us so much love up till now. It’s just the start!” (Yunho)

That word “start” was a powerful one, packed with feelings. The long-awaited reunion with the Dome tour will begin in November. The two of them also answered questions about what they looked forward to the most amidst their upcoming activities, and put the strength of their feelings into words: “we want to see our fans, the two of us together, standing on the stage”. During the Dome tour, they want see us, the figures of those who waited (for them) with unchanging feelings. Then, it’s the start of fan activities as well! SPUR will definitely be there!

 Behind the scene of the press conference

Part 1. “Everyone it’s been a while. Good evening. I’m Changmin. It’s been 3 days since I came back to society. I’ve yet to get used to standing in front of many people again.” – Changmin’s bashful smile: it’s an instant kill.

Part 2. “It’s amazing right?!” “A 5-Dome tour again, it’s amazing!” “It’s so amazing!” – Flashbacks of our usual MC on stage, so fluent in his interactions with the two members (T/N: gently mocking the MC for repeating over and over again the same comments).

Part 3. Yunho being asked about the meaning of each other’s existence, now after their separation. “For over ten years he has always stood by my side, we even shared the same house. However we’ve lived apart for two years. Changmin… he said nothing but he was next to me during my happiest moments, my saddest moments, my most painful moments. He’s an existence I’m incredibly grateful for, but it goes beyond that. The separation was the occasion for me to start thinking of him as family. I wanted to show him this Yunho I just told you about when I would see Changmin again, tell him “this is Yunho”. We reunited, and I was glad to find that he was still the Changmin he has always been up until now. But you could say the atmosphere had become more mature? Changmin, you’ve become cooler!” To which Changmin answered without missing a beat “it’s just that I became old”, making the entire audience burst out with laughter.

Part 4. At the end of his answer to the question “what kind of album will it be?” Changmin said “we are confident regarding that piece of our work, and I think you will all appreciate it.” (T/N: Changmin used a rather complicated Japanese word “自信作”, meaning a piece of art that a creator is confident in), and applauses rose from within the venue. That made him feel embarrassed, and in order to change the atmosphere, Changmin continued “it has just been three days since I came back to the society, my Japanese has become worse compared to the past…” At this point Yunho quickly interjected “but you’re more fluent than me!” When he did, Changmin fought back at once “but ‘who am I?’, ‘what’s this place?’ – I’m only at this level now!” The two of them are indeed fluent, and their conversation in Japanese is of the best kind!

Part 5. Changmin was asked to give a message for the fans who have anxiously been waiting during two years. “I wanted to immediately show you many aspects of me, as soon as we came back… however my hair is still so short, can you wait for me just a little more? We want to hold activities that will make you all feel secure too… so it’s just the time for my hair to grow, just a little please”, he answered while laughing. Yunho promptly added “it seems that Changmin’s keyword for today is ‘short hair’.”

Part 6. “I watched videos of Yunho singing during his solo stage” Changmin said “he was alone but he looked very cool and he did extremely well. I thought ‘it is sooo good’ and I felt glad for him. However, I want to stand on stage quickly too. Together with Yunho. (Short pause). I want to see our fans while standing on stage.” All the while Yunho was listening as if in deep thoughts.

Part 7. “Above all, what I feel happiest about today is being able to greet you together with Changmin saying “we are Tohoshinki!” Yunho said before sharing his deeper feelings. “Backstage, I was worrying regarding the atmosphere we should give to this press conference – should we do it in a very serious fashion? Should we give it a lighter touch and do it with a smile? But then I thought, for Tohoshinki the best atmosphere is a warm one of course, and we went with that. From now on as well, Tohoshinki’s charm is to deliver warm colors: on stage we want to do our best, whether we are telling jokes or presenting our performances. Thank you for waiting for us for such a long time. Please give us a lot of support from now on as well.” Those words closed the press conference, and they left the venue after crying out again “everyone, thank you so much!” even as their microphone had already been removed. After that the venue was wrapped more than ever in Tohoshinki’s warm aura. Our happiness magicians, Tohoshinki, are back again!

Yunho’s first stage in Japan after 2 years!!

Everyone in Bigeast, good evening!

Today “SMTOWN LIVE WORLD TOUR Ⅵ IN JAPAN” was held at Osaka Kyocera Dome!! The least we can say is that all of you in Bigeast had been waiting for so long for him, and Yunho came back on stage in Japan~♪ Everyone, you’ve always, always been waiting for this day right! And of course, your feelings have been conveyed to Yunho as well.

That’s why Yunho was extremely nervous thinking of standing on this stage again after such a long time. Since morning today he’s listened non-stop to the songs he was going to sing and raised his tension, in order to get rid of that anxiety.

Today’s highest temperature in Osaka was 36°C, like to receive the burning feelings of such a Yunho’s stage!! But beyond that heat, he showed a hot, HOT performance!

Once he got off stage, Yunho told us his impressions: the relief of having completed his performance safely, and gratitude toward the audience for a full venue and for showing him again a Red Ocean for the first time in 2 years.

You all in Bigeast who came to the venue, thank you so much for your great support! The show is still going on!

[TRANS] 161029 JYJ’s Junsu attains his 300th musical performance… what about this accomplishment and its significance?

JYJ’s Junsu is about to hold his 300th musical performance. Six years have passed since his debut in 2010 in the musical “Mozart”, he has participated since in seven different productions, and on the 29th this month, with the last act of “Dorian Gray” musical, he will attain his 300th performance.

Back in 2010, all tickets for the 3,000 seats of the Sejong Cultural Center were sold out for every performance of “Mozart”, the very first musical of Junsu’s career – something that had never happened before in the history of Korean musicals – that led the box office, setting a large record. Coupled with his Rookie Actor Awards’ wins at two Korean musical awards ceremonies – the “4th The Musical Awards” and the “16th Korea Musical Awards” – the birth of a new musical star was thus heralded. Such a successful musical debut for Junsu was said to become a decisive opportunity and to provide guidance for the great number of idol stars who explored the field of musicals afterwards, also setting a basis for evaluation.

Since the debut that eventually resulted in the very slow shift of the genre of musicals as a whole, Junsu has known continuous hits with “Elizabeth”, “December”, “Dracula” and “Death Note”. The success of this year’s original musical production “Dorian Gray” saw the value of licensed musicals brighten further in the South Korean market, while simultaneously driving the expansion of the Korean musical scene’s boundaries as a side effect.

‘Junsu is definitely bringing his own unique style’, the performance critic Hyun Soo Jung stated. ‘Here we have a single personality conducting the style of an entire production, it’s a rare instance. On the other hand, as a sincere performer who constantly worries about creating new characters that will fit him for each one of his works, his support during the creative process is far from negligible. That support is one reason why original creations were achieved, from conceptual characters such as the role of Death in “Elizabeth” to more concrete ones like Jun-Hyung in “December”.’

The worth of “musical actor Junsu” is even more prominent it you take a look at the box office. For every production in which he appeared, tickets were sold-out in a record time after the sale opening – that’s of course. But it is also worth pointing out that in six years of intermittent musical activities, he has maintained the volume of his tickets sales.

Again, in spite of the various factors that can impact ticket sales such as premieres and replays, timing of the performances, location of the venue or a sluggish musical market, the volume of his ticket sales remained unchanged.

‘If Junsu had highlighted only his “star-turned-actor” quality, it would probably have been difficult for him to maintain his ticket power until now, with seven discontinued productions’ said Chi Hae Won, an Associate Professor at Kyunghee University’s Culture & Arts Business Administration and a performance critic. ‘However, by bringing out and completing his character in an original casting, by managing to fully carry out all eight performances of a musical in one week, by going back and forth between the musicals “Death Note” and “Dorian Gray” respectively in just an interval of two months – to pick a few particular examples – he proved that he was box-office material; he is proving his growth as an actor. Junsu is a musical actor, with reliable colors that belong to him only. And he has reached the point when you can say about him that he will remain as the exemplary case of an idol singer to be accepted in the musical industry.’

An official from the musical scene commented: ‘seeing Junsu’s ticket power, great expectations flourished in the South Korean musical market over his participation to an original musical creation, and he himself responded accordingly. He has participated in 300 performances – among them, more than a half were creative productions – and his appearance is proving to be a tremendous influence in the musical industry. On the other hand, you can also glimpse his determination to bring his own contribution (to the musical industry).’

Besides, it is widely accepted that just the mention of Junsu’s appearance triggers expectations for sold-out performances – and it is also true that this anticipation derives from his powerful fandom, which leads one to expect the general public to line up for his performances. Officials in the industry say that in order to have a full house in a large theater for every performance and to witness a significant part of the audience going for multi-viewing (T/N: attending several times a same production), you must reach at least that level of interest and expectations from the general public.

Combining Junsu’s massive fanbase and his true talent as an actor, he stands as ‘an actor whom I want to see’, ‘an actor who will convince you when you watch him’ even for the general audience. 

‘I believe that Junsu is playing a key role in extending the type of audience that currently constitutes the musical market and in reaching out to outer categories’ the performance critic Hyun Soo Jung confided. ‘And at the same time, we now have expectations regarding him for the future… will he be able to keep raising the accessibility of the general audience to the so-called “musical genre”?’

JYJ’s Junsu successfully completed the Kobe performances of his Asia tour: “I believe I will forever remember this moment”

As expected from JYJ’s Junsu: he totally rocked Kobe, painting it in his own colors. On the 3rd, an office affiliated with C-JeS Entertainment reported: “Junsu successfully completed his “2016 XIA 5th ASIA TOUR CONCERT in KOBE” performances held at Kobe International Forum Hall A from June 30 to July 2. Over 3 days, Junsu’s glamorous stage and special fan service attracted about 20,000 spectators.” Junsu opened the curtain for his Kobe performances with songs such as “F.L.P.” from his 3rd full album and “Break My Heart” from his 4th full album. “It has been about 7 years since I last held a concert in Kobe, however it is the first time I stand here as a solo act. For the Kobe stages as well, he held his special corner “Genie Time”. In front of an enthusiast audience, Junsu put on a doctor’s outfit and wearing a stethoscope around his neck, he transformed into a doctor who could cast spells to make pain magically disappear. He also performed live several solo songs that were not included in the concert’s setlist. At the last concert, Junsu conveyed his feelings: “Today, once again, I realized that if it wasn’t for you all, my stages would not exist. I poured all of my energy on this stage and at the same time, I feel that I received exactly as much from you all – that makes me so happy. JYJ’s Junsu shares his convictions regarding album and performance: “I’m seeking music that can be displayed, not one that stops after you listened to it.” 

He does not plan to appear on televised shows. Instead he decided to stand on stage and perform, and with that in mind, a full album was indispensable. Because the more packed (the album) would be, the more glamorous it would turn out when displayed – as he wished. He is not merely one member of the group JYJ but also a solo singer, and as such, Junsu explains why he resolutely sticks to full albums. On the 11th afternoon, the “2016 XIA 5th ASIA TOUR CONCERT” Asia Tour showcasing Junsu’s 4th full album kicked off in Seoul Gymnastics Stadium, in the Olympic Park. Prior to what promised to be a full-fledged show, Junsu held a press conference to share his impressions and plans for the future.

“It did not necessarily have to be the Gymnastics Stadium. I am always very happy to perform, wherever it is. I have already stood on the stage of the Gymnastics Stadium before, for a musical concert, however it is indeed the first time (that I perform there) to promote my own album” Junsu explained after the press conference started. “Once again, I won’t have any promotional activities on broadcast for this album. And yet, my audience trusts me regardless. They always come to see my concerts, I am very grateful to them” he greeted. Junsu released his 4th full album on May, 30. “It has been about one year and three months since I last released a full album” he said regarding that particular choice “and I stuck to a structure of 13 songs. I did pick a different direction from the one observed recently on the album market. But when I prepare albums I am already thinking of the future concerts to be planned, that is the most important thing to me.” “When I hold a concert, I want it to be packed with new songs” he explained further. “I believe that is the way to reward (my fans), that’s why I was set on releasing a full album and prepared a lot of new tracks.”

Junsu picked a dance track as the title song for this album. “I wanted to announce a title song that would put emphasis on performance. I made that choice thinking in priority of the persons who would come to watch my live concerts.” “I don’t have any broadcast activity planned” he said once again, “so I have no choice but to show a lot more during concerts. That’s why I chose a title song fit for live performances.” “I do not want to let my albums end at the streaming (listening) stage. On the contrary, they are especially suited for live stages. I wanted to sing performance songs, songs in which I can put a lot of energy. The choreography of the title song for this album is the best of all the dance tracks I have had so far. It’s just one song yet it’s exhausting, the amount of energy it requires is amazing. I have prepared and I will be able to show a lot of dance songs in the upcoming concerts” Junsu stated confidently. “It should be all-inclusive regarding dance tracks.” “Those days you can listen to a lot of music, but I don’t want my music to be one that stops once you have listened to it” he said once again, showing his determination. “I want to make music that can be showed. [TRANS] 150812 Park Yoochun recording "The Piano of Miracles”: 4 hours of tears-induced NGs

“I’m sincerely sorry, let’s take a small break. It wells up inside my chest and the tears* keep coming out. I don’t know myself why I’m like this.”

This is the back story behind the topic of the singer and actor Park Yoochun’s several NGs during the recording of its narration part in the documentary [The Piano of Miracles]. At that time, information regarding Park Yoochun’s appearance in the studio where the recording would take place had widely spread. Last month Yoochun showed up together with his manager in Sinsa-dong streets (Gangnam, Seoul), where Lead Sound studios are located, in order to record the narration for the documentary [The Piano of Miracles] that retraces the growth of the blind pianist genius Ye Eun. In 2008**, Park Yoochun was active as DBSK and appeared on the night program “Kim Jeong-Eun’s Chocolate”**. Ye-Eun – who became famous since – accompanied him on the piano while Park Yoochun sang a pop song, and they harmonized together. By participating in the narration of the documentary [The Piano of Miracles], Park Yoochun got to contact Ye Eun and her family – who are featured in the movie – for the first time in 7 years***. In the second half of the documentary, seeing Ye Eun on the screen as a junior high school student, his emotions overwhelmed him. “Ye-Eun has grown up this much already?”, he showed his surprise when he watched her participating in a competition. And while looking at her, who had lost her sight, and her bright expression, more innocent and cheerful than anyone else, he was holding back but there were tears in his eyes. “Originally we thought that it would take around 30 minutes”, a staff from the recording studio said, “but Yoochun-sshi was suppressing his emotions and had to adjust his tone, so there were a lot of NGs and it took four hours to complete. On stage he’s a Hallyu star who overpowers the atmosphere, but looking at him during the recording, he was a very humble and genuine young man.” The representatives of the film company that wanted to produce [The Piano of Miracles] spoke up as well: “During the negotiations for the narration eight months ago, we were surprised when Park Yoochun answered positively without any conditions. “By having a lot of people watch this movie and cheer for Ye Eun through it, it’d be great if we could make a path so that she can always make music happily just like she is doing now”, Yoochun said, and he completed the work.” [The Piano of Miracles] is distributed by Lotte Entertainment. Preview of SMTOWN THE STAGE movie. Tohoshinki’s Yunho and Changmin revealed their feelings toward the stage. Following [I AM. SMTOWN LIVE WORLD TOUR IN MADISON SQUARE GARDEN], the production introduced the second part of the music documentary [SMTOWN THE STAGE SMTOWN LIVE WORLD TOUR IV] ahead of its first broadcast, presenting Tohoshinki’s feelings toward the stage.

Yunho expressed his love for the stage – “even if I were to die here (on stage), I’d have no regrets. So I’m happy”, he said. He also gave advice to EXO, his juniors from the same agency: “when you are on the stage, think of yourself as the hero/protagonist… as the king of the stage”.

As for Changmin, “for us, the stage is that space where we can be aware of ourselves”, he said. “As we stand on top of the stage, we (artists) have a high perception of the fighting spirit sort of power [we create] together with the audience, it sends shivers through the entire body”, he explained. Again, he expressed his true feelings: “to be honest there are times when I want to cut the rehearsals short. But next to me Yunho would be pushing himself very hard, so seeing him like this, I get the feeling that I cannot ease up.”

Then Yunho had words for the staff making the stages with them. “They are close to us, helping us. I think we can shine on stage because those persons are here and lend us their strength”, he thus expressed his gratitude toward people in the staff, who make their stages bright and dazzling by working discreetly from behind the scene.

The film will be screened in South Korea for about two weeks, from August 13 to August 26. In Japan the title has been changed to [SMTOWN THE STAGE – ORIGINAL JAPAN VERSION], and the movie will be broadcasted in national theaters from August 29 on.
