2D began to chew anxiously at his fingernails, which were just now beginning to grow from stubs. nervous, blackened eyes twitched from the window to murdoc and back again. the rain only continued to come down in buckets, the thunder sounding closer and closer as time went on.

“ wha’s good about a bloody power outage, eh ? we’ll ‘ave to bring out the candles an’ the lanterns ... these storm’s be the death a’ me. ”

crooked teeth came out to chew on his bottom lip before he answered, “ it wasn’t a waste a’ time. did ya see the crowd ? they were cheerin’ and clappin’. im sure they heard some of it. ”

it wasn’t stupid. those people had fun. what could ever be stupid about that ?

“ ‘sides, it meant a lot to russ. yer gonna tell me you didn’t have a good time ? ”

Murdoc wasn’t exactly mad, a bit peeved? Possibly, mainly because he knew their audience couldn’t hear their music. It couldn’t reach them in a way he wanted and he couldn’t understand exactly how they even enjoyed it? Were their vibrations that great? Of course they were, still, didn’t compare to the actual music they made. “Course they were clappin’, I mean- they were in my presence.” Making it about him, predictable. He always found a way to make it about him even though there were three others in the band. “Is that supposed to mean something to me?” Which it did in his own weird way. He never did express how he felt about things fully, kept a lot of it bottled up.

“Well, they had drinks, can’t have a bad time with drinks around.” Oh yes you can, he was living proof of that.

after the years of being in a band — especially one with murdoc niccals at the helm — stuart has grown a thicker skin. but he was more sensitive to others emotions around him compared to his own, and the idea that murdoc was, or could, become angry left him with a familiar sense of anxiety.

“ i fink they might’ve heard bits an’ pieces. they were hearin’ impaired, right ? not, ya know, completely deaf ? ”

he crossed lanky arms over a skinny chest. “ you can ‘ave a terrible time, even with alcohol. you don’t seem to get any happier after you’ve had a few. an’ sometimes i don’t get to feelin’ much better, either. ” that’s when the pills came in. this conversation was moving in a direction that stuart hadn’t meant for it to go — but maybe that was a good thing. murdoc was a mystery, even after all of this time.

maybe getting him to admit some things and open up a bit wasn’t so bad.

Murdoc had thought the whole thing had been stupid from the beginning, it was Russel who got it all together. Saying they should do something to give back to the community and this was it.

2D wouldn’t taken more offense to that had it not been kind of true. he was a grown man now — 41 years of age ! — but his mind often wasn’t even in his own head, and that made him act a bit younger ; more naive.

so he merely sat in the passenger seat beside darla and nodded his head feebly, a possible headache from last nights numerous drinks at his temples.

“ oi, tha’s probably true. m’ sorry, ya jus’ remind me of a lil’ noodle — makes me nostalgic. ey ; where are we goin’, anyway ? ”
