if you watched dead poets society, and what you took from it was “they didn’t go in depth about poetry enough” or “i hate richard cameron” then you watched it wrong.
the whole point OF the ‘dead poets society’ as a society was to get these boys OUT of the restrictive railroad tracks they were placed on and to get them to LIVE. to sneak out! to read what their parents thought was just “nonsense!” to think and learn and breathe for themselves.
it wasn’t ABOUT the poetry, although beautiful as it was, it was about the aforementioned. the living deep and sucking the marrow out of life.
next, if you finish that film hating cameron, you ignore the fact that he was raised to oppose everything keating stood for, and was raised to see suicide as failure. suicide as weak. he was convinced that keating had to have been the reason for neil’s death because that was the only thing that made sense to him in a time when nothing made sense. when your best friend who loved living kills himself.
anyway, if you watched dead poets society, and what you took from it was “todd and neil are gay” and “nuwanda is a bi queen” you watched it right.
