“People jus’ give ya candy? That don’t seem right...”
Did you get a lot of candy for Halloween Shirin?
“What’s Hell-a-ween?”
“If I need her. Won’t call her mom, though.”
“Good. ‘Cos if she was yer momma, it’d be weird. She’s older’n ya, but she ain’t old enough t’be yer mom.”
“Well, but I have this lil sis that always goes all like ‘wow I want this’ and ‘can I have that’, so always buyin’ the same doesn’t work. And askin’ mom kinda doesn’t work either since she’s… dead.” That’s a very good reason.
“Y’can borrow mine. She’s real good with them numbers!”
“Yeah, but maths are kinda important when ya go to the market to buy stuff. Don’t like the thought of some merchant shittin’ me because I ain’t smart enough to count. It kinda seems more useful to me than readin’.” Well, he looked very smart while stroking his beard like that, though.
“I jus’ buy the same shit every time an’ remember what the weight an’ color’a the payment’s s’posed to be.” She scratched her head a little like a monkey, making Roh look almost.... sophisticated by comparison. “Or get Momma t’do that crap.”
“Actually think numbers are easier than readin’. Been tryin’ to learn this shit ever since I joined the corps, but I keep losin’ my patience over and over again.” He can write and read a little more than his own name. Oh, and Muu’s name! That’s about it. “Nah, don’t need yer help. I can make some lil man cry without ya, thanks.”
“I dunno, man. Words make sense, there’s sounds in ‘em, I can make sounds. There ain’t nothin’ helpful like that in math. They’re just a way t’ figure out how much’a somethin’ ya have or want. Fer that, I got all I need.” She starts counting on her fingers. “One, a few, lots, a fuckton!”
“Moody? Yeah, that fucker insulted me, even though I don’t even know him! Didn’t know that ya started to learn readin’, though…”
“I been learnin’ readin’. Real slowly. Also numbers. Slower. Point ‘im out to me. I’ll tower over him till he cries.”
“I know what he spelled! His name is ‘Solemn’! I guess he’s a moody sorta dude.”

Finding Home
“Much of my own style developed from my own reasons for training,” he replied “my weapon in full djinn equip is a spear, very long and rather top-heavy, but I learned the basics before adapting. Being able to adapt is the best skill to have.”
“That is true...” She bites a nail.
Finding Home
“Anything for fellow fanalis,” he replied, smiling “even though I’m only a half breed, I hold my fanalis heritage dearly.”
“Y’better!” But she’s still exhausted and sick, so she sort of lays back down.
“I... am eager to see what fighting styles have been developed, since I can’t imagine that they’re identical to tradition.”
Finding Home
Muu noticed that she seemed to be avoiding the subject, feigning not remembering. Though from what he gathered of the incident, he didn’t blame her for not wanting to dwell on it.
“You can count on me to teach her, then,” he promised “she’ll be in good hands.”
“Thank you again, Muu.” She nods.
...He’s so cool. She’s gonna be like him when he grows up.
“That’s what others say, but I think that’s not quite true. You’re smart.”
“Say it one more time, an’ then th’ next time you’ll be sayin’ it’ll be in the Coliseum.” Watch yourself, Muu.
send me a misconception you think people have about my character and I'll explain if it's true or not.
she couldn’t help but smile at her. “ i might one day. but for now, i’m happy with what i’m doing. ”
“I don’t get that one bit, girl...”
“And you know as well as I do that being book-smart isn’t the only form of intelligence. Your very smart, Shirin. You don’t give yourself enough credit.”
“If the brain ain’t smart in a way y’can keep score, it don’t count.”
Finding Home
“Of course,” he nodded “that is, if your mother approves.”
He turned to Ayla, concerned for her reaction.
“Ayla….are you alright?”
“Hm? I have no input on this other than it’s best you teach her, elsewise she’ll try teaching herself, which is inadvisable because her rapid growth makes her incredibly clumsy. I don’t know why you both are eyeing me like a barrel of fermented fish.”
“I mean... Poppa’s spear...” Shirin pats her ribcage.
“...I have no recollection of what you’re talking about.”
“Y’know, when y’stopped poppa from killin’ th’ Master an’ got a right wicked slash there?”
“Did that happen? ...I have no recollection of what you’re talking about.”
“So it’s okay to learn?”
“Why would I stop you? It isn’t the fault of the weapon. I stood against him.”
