At this point, it feels like I’m beating a dead horse when it comes to sigils. However, this is one of the most widespread pieces of misinformation on tumblr, so I’ll go at it again: This is not how sigils work, at all.

Tracing out a sigil with crystals will not charge, activate, or really do anything to it. If you’ve been trying this, or similar methods, and it hasn’t been working out for you, here’s why: A sigil is an encoded statement of desire designed to bypass the psychic censor and allow your mind to work the magic. Think of it kind of like placing a program into your subconscious, designed to achieve the desired effect. To do this, the sigil has to basically be sent on a path through your brain. That’s why common methods of truly charging a sigil include focusing on the sigil during a state of meditation, visualization, orgasm, pain, heavy emotion, or a complete state of mental indifference. Without some sort of way to pass through your mind, the sigil is nothing more than a doodle.

Here’s some common methods of supposedly “charging” sigils that you see a lot on tumblr that absolutely do not work:

- Placing it under the sun or the moon

- Anything to do with crystals

- Drawing it on yourself

- Hiding it somewhere

- Drawing it on a piece of toast and eating the toast

You get the idea?

Let’s talk about the hiding example. If you hide the sigil, you’re never going to see it, and it’s never going to cross the threshold of your mind. An alternative to this, that does work, is putting the sigil somewhere where you will see it every day. This is a brute force method of allowing it to seep into your mind. After a couple weeks of seeing it every day you won’t even notice it consciously, but subconsciously you will. This is an example of that complete state of mental indifference I mentioned earlier. That’s the perfect time to take it down, do a little extra ritual, burn it, and forget all about it. Try this sometime, you’ll be surprised by the results.

Book of Mirrors Prompts

Hello my beautiful babies! 

At the moment I am working on my book of mirrors which to me is a magical journal to record my personal experiences with magic and how it affects me and my world. This differs from my Grimoire which holds my basic magical information and my book of shadows which holds only my working spells. 

This is my beautiful book of mirrors from paper blanks. I personally use this brand for all my magical books because they look to me like my idealistic version of magical books. I’ve tried making books and recycling old ones but unfortunatley I am not artistic and neatness does bother me as a stereotypical virgo.
