Davy Jones, Captain of the Flying Dutchman
Found this model for free on MakerWorld/the Bambu slicer program and I couldn't resist.
I made my own base for it though as the one it comes with is not the best looking. I did no work on the print itself, just primed it and went straight to painting because sanding this would be a huge pain in the nuts.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At world's end review (4.5/5⭐️)
I think this film is the best one out of them across pretty much every aspect.
The visuals are darker which I very much prefer and it's also beautifully done. Particularly with effects on Davy Jones being human, the transition is seamless. And also Calypso with all of the crabs. Historical accuracy is maintained in them too, especially across the costuming, Elizabeth is even able to maintain her class in the way her clothes are presented even as a pirate. Music is done in a way which very much compliments every scene it's in, it keeps the same consistent motif, but changes key in way that isn't jarring. And also adds the heartbeat of Davy Jones into it, in an intentional way that lingers and aids the storytelling.
The plot is the most compelling of them, in part because it does feel like an incredibly well rounded conclusion, but also the way in which character developments pay off. Jack may for me be the most entertaining charecter as he is intended to be the hero pirate, but his development, particularly in his relationship with Elizabeth is incredibly good. He's obviously afraid of her, which is credit to her charecter growth as they do that gradually and in a way which feels organic. But they also don't sexualise her and the male characters aren't patronising towards her or the power she holds. Furthermore, the relationship between Davy and Calypso is probably the best part of the whole story, it's not just a tragic story, but it actually lingers on the emotional arc between them, even in an action filled pirate movie.
It's a perfectly done conclusion in every single way, both visually and in the actual story it tells.
