Your phone is probably your most used gadget. No doubt you have it with you everywhere you go and that's great, but...
What condition is it in?
when did it get it's first scratch?
How gutted were you when that happened?
The point I'm making is that we often spend hundreds of pounds on a phones (even contract phones are never really free - did you really think that monthly payment was going on minutes and texts?) but when it comes to looking after them - Most of us aren't so good at it. How good is your phone case? Do you even have one?
A prime example of this is when you head on over to eBay or Amazon and see that the most popular phone case sales are those which are under £5. A Fiver! seriously!
Your phone is basically a sophisticated expensive miniature laptop, it is likely more at risk of damage than ANY other device you own simply because it's used so much and taken everywhere - Do you really want to protect it with a Five Quid Cheapo case?
Don't misunderstand me here - I'm not suggesting you go out and spend £50 to make your phone un-breakable (and probably bulky at the same time). But, it would be worth spending up to £20 on something that will protect your phone against everyday scratches and minor bumps.
