During our visit in Si’an we also met Huang Shaokuan, a lovely old lady (89 years old) who wrote a book about her life in various recovery centers. She sells this book to fund charities supporting other recovery centers with less comfortable living conditions. She keeps up-to-date a list of all the goods she has been able to provide to less fortunate than her. If you would like to buy her book to support her initiative, please contact any of the AOC members or come to room B310
During our pre-visit trip to Dongguan, we met Peng Hai Ti. This artist has had no fingers and is missing one leg since the age of 15 when contracted the bacteria that causes Hansen's Disease. There will be soon an exhibition organized in UISG and a dedicated website to sell his work. All benefits will proceed to a charity.

Better late than never! Here are the designs for the christmas cards that were sold during Festival of Lights last year in December. They were such a success! A creative way to create awareness!
What is UISG JIA?
Let’s begin by Joy in Action (JIA). JIA is an organization around China that believes that problems cannot be solved only through discussions it but also needs concrete actions in order to bring up a solution. It believes in the joy in taking action.
It has different projects and its main one is the Volunteer Work Camps, which helps to improve the living, social, and psychological conditions of the people living in Leprosy affected Villages and the surrounding areas.
UISG JIA is a group created in Utahloy International School in Guangzhou- China to support the organisation by social work and connections to the international community and the expats. Our main goal is to arise awareness within our community about this issue, the isolation of the leprosy communities. We want to aware our community to decrease the discrimination and at the same time contribute to the society in which we are growing up, get more involve with the real world issues and find different ways to make the place where we are living a little bit better.
Our current goal is to make a media project which involve the leprosy communities and ourselves.

We’re proud to present our new JIA logo, with which you can identify our fundraising campaign in the future. As you may know, 家 (jiā) means family or home in chinese. Our logo represents the love that comes with a family.
As the people who have gone through leprosy here in China often live without having seen their families for years, we want to give them the attention and affection they deserve.
As part of Joy In Action, JIA, we are not only trying to raise awareness about leprosy, but also want to help people that suffered this disease and now are not accepted easily by society. In order to be able to visit these, we need some fundraising - as last Saturday on the UEF Family Fun Day at the Zengcheng Utahloy Campus!
After all it’s about Joy, and we do try to transmit this through our fundraising. Made with love!
