So what youâre telling me is that Iâm a gigantic Chuck Mangione fan?
Imagine if firefighting was a paid, taxpayer- funded job
Imagine a fire department starting fires on purpose to fill a quota every month, or rolling through neighborhoods at night, raiding houses with people sitting around a fire pit in their backyard 'just in case!', or tackling someone to the ground because they thought they saw them light a match or firing some warning shots to the chest because they looked like the kind of person who would leave their toaster plugged in and cause an electrical fire....Â
Obviously that would be f***ing ridiculous, unnecessarily aggressive, and also a gigantic waste of taxpayer money. Because obviously firefighters are just there to protect the community, and only if they're summoned.Â
We don't seem to be complaining that firefighters have minimal funding or run on a volunteer basis. In fact we've always found it admirable that people choose the profession just for the sake of helping the community...Â
Sometimes I wonder which profession could function similarly if only it didn't exist specifically to fill privatized for-profit, free-labor, black enslavement camps prisons...

Actually Yes! In the state of Kentucky, the state government sent down health officials to talk with the elders and explained whatâs going on. The elders decided to disband their weekly church meetings (they are going to have church within their families instead) and social distance. They shut down their businesses and are tending to their families and their crop. A couple of good family friends are Amish and they are taking really good care of themselves and their neighbors (baking food and giving it to them). My Mamaw (my dads mom) is immunodeficient so she canât go out to the shops and they are keeping her in food and necessities. They are also sewing masks for local hospitals, nursing homes, immunodeficient people, and their families.
I think Iâm going to apply a bit more critical thinking when watching the news.

Youâd think that would go without saying, but thatâs government for you.
Unbiased journalism is not pretending both sides are equally valid. Unbiased journalism is reporting the facts even if those facts include that one side is irredeemably awful. False neutrality is propaganda.
Repeated for emphasis: False neutrality is propaganda.
if 99 experts say one thing, and 1 expert says another, presenting both sides as equal is misinformation
This is the most insidious and effective way that American news outlets created the impression that climate change is debatable: repeatedly featuring one scientist who believed in climate change and one who didnât, thus tricking the public into seeing it as a 50-50 split when itâs closer to 97-3.
If yâall want a look at how depraved US soldiers are, I suggest watching The Kill Team. Itâs about some fuckheads who were found guilty of killing random Afghan civilians for the thrill of it and planting weapons on them to make it seem like they were insurgents. At one point in the documentary one of these monsters is like âlots of other people do this, we didnât think weâd get caught.â So keep in mind that the atrocities that we see in the US media are only a small fraction of the murders unjustifiable even by US military standards that soldiers regularly inflict, and most people who do anything will get to go on with their lives as usual.
this post made me go watch it and Iâm 15 minutes in and I had to stop and take a break before continuing i think iâm going to throw up. these guys are literally sitting there talking about how when they first entered the field they were excited and thought the firefights and violence were awesome but when it tapered off into being more about retrieving information and interacting with civilians they became frustrated and bored, and you can hear the defensiveness and resentment still in their voices that reality was not living up to their extremely violent fantasy of what war would be and what they had so eagerly signed up for. They speak so casually about murdering civilians and planting weapons on them like itâs some natural progression of their disappointment and dissatisfaction. the âwhat else were we supposed to do?â tone in their voice is fucking terrifying. they enlisted because they wanted to kill anyone they could without consequences and when their bloodthirst wasnât satisfied in any âofficialâ capacity they fabricated âjustifiableâ scenarios in order to murder people freely. theyâre just serial killers. theyâre serial killers but they have convinced themselves and other people theyâre somehow different because their victims didnât look like them and they wore uniforms as they killed them.
The funniest part about unlikeable geek men is they really are fully convinced people donât like them because of their hobbies. They cannot even begin to process the idea that comics and D&D and shit have in fact always been kinda cool and their personslities might just be repulsive. The combined unwavering ego/persecution complex is... unreal.
âI was socially rejected because I like video gamesâ no tyler, you were socially rejected because you turn every conversation you have into a competition and you call women âfemalesâ
