Pride month and the biphobia against bi women dating the opposite gender is spiking up, we love to see it 😐
fun story:
I did some volunteer work for my (then-) local LGBT+ organization during Pride. I asked to do face painting, since I studied cosmetology at the time, they said no. I asked to do some of the posters, they said no. I asked to work at a "merch store" (they sold mostly patches and stickers), they said no. In the end the only thing they let me do was to hold down a tent when it got windy. I was really confused by this until someone in the organization let it slip that they didn't want me to participate in pride at all, because i was in a heterosexual relationship at the time. When i made it clear that i am a bisexual, they laughed at me and told me to stop pretending to "belong in the rainbow family". After that interaction i stopped supporting said organization and will never volunteer for or support any of their sub-organizations.
what really bugged me about all of this was that
a) a LGBT+ organization seemingly hates bisexual women who are in a heterosexual relationship
and
b) even IF i was straight, why wouldn't they want me to help them and fight for their rights???
so my point here is that even pride community can have extreme prejudice and even hatred towards bi people and i think that's on another level of meased up
Bis must unionize against biphobic LGBTQ+/Pride orgs. Not even kidding.
I'll never forgive tumblr for being so quick to shit on the concept of "queer platonic" relationships bc even outside of asexual/aromantic relationships, the bond I've shared with other queer women in a non romantic, non sexual way has been wildly different and more intimate than any friendships I've ever had with cishet people, even when we're not as close as my cishet friends. the fact that y'all were like "relationships are strictly within these categories there is only familial, platonic, sexual, and romantic" like yall pls 😭 queer connection and bonding is so much deeper and more complex than that. get offline and connect with some of your community i beg
hope you don't mind me adding your tags on, but yes, exactly this. its actually talked about among sapphics pretty often as like a hallmark middle school/high school experience to have a super close female friend who you did not have a specific crush on, but were somehow closer than all your other friends with, and ultimately lost in a way that felt like a breakup despite the platonic nature of the relationship.
and society is going to respond with a lot of bullshit like "you mean its just friendship" or "you mean it was a crush" bc it lives in a binary where you're either in a romantic/sexual relationship, or you're friends; and it's bc they cannot comprehend that the feelings we experience do not fit neatly into their pre concieved boxes, just like how being queer never did that either.

I don’t think it’s fully possible to embrace nonbinary people until you stop thinking of men as the opposite of women and of masculinity negative femininity and vice versa. Like. Honestly it was a ridiculous belief to begin with, we’re not an incredibly sexually dymorphic species to begin with and men and women (even cis men and women!) are far more similar than different. Until you stop thinking of men and women as inherent opposites you can never accept bigender people or people who combine masculinity and femininity or people who hold manhood in some ways and womanhood in others. And honestly it’s a kind of heteronomative viewpoint anyway

If anyone reading this was under the impression that police go easy on white female protesters or female protesters who meet some standard of “correctly” feminine dress or any female protesters, please, please learn more about the history of women’s participation in mass demonstrations and police responses to them. “Chicks up front” didn’t work out too well as a strategy for protecting crowds of anti-Vietnam War protesters. Two of the Kent State four were women. When Occupy New York was going on, people who were there posted about how the police often seemed to be targeting female protesters, including white female protesters, more than male protesters. If you’re thinking about participating in the ongoing protests, go with your eyes wide open. And for goodness’ sake, don’t go in heels.
These are pictures of a white woman from Dallas, Texas. She wasn’t even part of the protest, she was just walking home from the grocery store in the vicinity of the protests but was still targeted and shot. She’s even dressed the way OP said to dress, but dressing like a nice white lady going to brunch didn’t save her from state sanctioned male violence.
Leftists are so misogynistic they’ve convinced themselves that misogyny isn’t a Real or Serious form of oppression like other forms of oppression are. By extension they’ve convinced themselves anyone oppressed only along the axis of misogyny doesn’t face any Real or Serious oppression. But spreading and forcing the idea that misogyny isn’t real or serious oppression circles back around to hurt those of us oppressed along multiple axes, because when our communities believe misogyny isn’t real or serious oppression then women oppressed along multiple axes get silenced by the men in our communities when we try to speak out against them about how their misogyny hurts us.
