𝘼𝙎𝙏𝙀𝙍𝘼 𝘼𝙇𝙒𝘼𝙔𝙎 𝙁𝙊𝙐𝙉𝘿 herself among the animals in the barn. today was no different. she stood near the entrance of the second stall, door open, dark eyes scanning over the horse stood near the corner. tera pursed her lips, taking a hesitant step in the direction of the scared animal. she was good at this, prior to the end of the world, she was always the soft, welcoming hand that comforted the animals in the midst of procedures. astera offered her hand in the direction of the horse, a smile spreading ear-to-ear as he allowed the significantly smaller woman to pet him. however, just as she felt confident that she was making some progress, someone new entered the barn, prompting jack to begin barking. “hmph,” she said, moving out of the stall to give the nervous animal his space. “so close.” // @havenstarters
ellaria had no intention of interrupting astera, but nothing was going to stop her from visiting her wife. the childcare worker had checked in the fields but astera wasn’t there... and that could only mean one thing: the barn. ella did not think twice about it. barely making it to the entrance of the barn, jack-jack began to bark out of the blue and it was because the brunette had made an appearance. the woman found herself glaring at jack, rolling her eyes. the second she walked into the barn, tera was in her sight and had just walked out of one of the stalls. a smile was on her face; her wife being a sight for sore eyes, she inquired, “ so close? ” as she made her random visit.
THE SMALLEST HINT of a smile ghosted its way onto mazikeen’s face as she realized caspian had left the safety of the haven to check on her. she was grateful for her brothers. beyond luci, they were pretty much the only reason she had managed to make it this far after everything that happened. “ah, i guess it’s alright.” she nodded, head tilting to the side as she spoke. it was immediately obvious what her brother was doing as he’d been particularly protective since maze had wandered back into the gates ALONE. a short sigh was expressed through barely parted lips, breaking her gaze as she fiddled with the hem of her shirt. “yeah, just been watching, making sure there’s nothing out here worth worryin’ about.”
it wasn’t like she couldn’t fend for herself. hell, she was a trauma doctor before the world turned to shit; he didn’t know for how long for but that was huge for him. caspian had more respect for her than he did for himself. he couldn’t read her response, so he squinted his eyes. “ of course it is! i thought luciana would need an update on her mom. ” cas couldn’t stop thinking about maze wandering back into haven alone... on her own. what the hell happened? he had obviously thought the worse, the last time he’d seen his mom and dad. shaking his head, sighing, he knew exactly why she was out here. “ you have to stop this... ” cas muttered quietly. regardless of the fact of being related, she was worth worrying about. luciana, too.
𝙏𝘼𝙆𝙄𝙉𝙂 𝘼 𝘿𝙀𝙀𝙋 𝘽𝙍𝙀𝘼𝙏𝙃 in, her chest rose softly as dark eyes watched deep into the trees surrounding haven. being outside the gates was second nature to mazikeen, she’d found her place among the elements since the death of her parents. it was a quiet day, there hadn’t been a biter at the gates since sunrise. for a moment, she was able to let her guard down, taking a moment to rest her back against a tree. nimble fingers ducked into her shirt pocket, fumbling to find the flattened pack of cigarettes. though she knew the things were terrible for her, the slight nicotine induced high the packed tobacco provided a short relief. maze placed the thing between her lips, bringing the lighter up towards the end. just as she was about to spark the light, the sound of a branch cracking behind her pulled her attention. her free hand moved to her weapon, quickly spinning around to face whatever or whoever it was behind her. spotting the familiar face, the tension in her body quickly faded. “what are you doing ?” mazikeen asked, quickly rising to her feet. // @havenstarters
caspian threw his hands in the air, surrendering with a somewhat sly grin on his face. “ can’t a brother check on his sister? ” the concern for his sister increased with each passing day; her wellbeing was his top priority. before he stepped out the gates, there was a gut feeling to check on maze. hell, he was surprised his watch was still working — wasn’t it? caspian had brought his bō along with him... just as a safety precaution. being on HIGH ALERT was kind of caz’s thing since that particular day and not being there made him feel worse, especially since his sister’s change of character. but what could he do? be there for her, of course; including their brother. “ you doin’ okay? been out here a while... ”

layla eshtiaq was born and raised in dallas, texas, to immigrant parents from iran. they left long before the revolution took place — the late 60′s, early 70′s — and had the desire of living the american dream.
she grew up in a well-rounded home in the highland park neighborhood. her parents were well-known in the lone star state. her father, a business magnate; her mother, a refined and respected artist in her own right, involved within the art community. they were also true, genuine philanthropists. new money > old money
was everything handed to her on a silver platter? hell no. was she spoiled? not to the extent. did she acknowledge her privileged lifestyle? yeah. did she refuse any kind of special treatment? fuck yes. she didn’t flaunt her last name around.
an honor roll (and impressive) student throughout the school years. she was involved in extracurricular activities you’d never expect her to be a part of— philanthropic to a tee because of her parents. just as passionate as they were, especially when it came to the wellbeing of others and those of a lower class. layla cared [cares] about everyone.
having a keen interest in the military, layla had no idea how to tell her parents ! didn’t know if they’d support her decision and they didn’t at first. when she told them, they were conflicted to the point where they’d argue every time they’d come face-to-face. layla hated it but didn’t give up despite their wishes... straight out of graduating from high school, she made the ‘hasty’ decision of signing up !
i mean, she had to after staring at a pamphlet too long. layla was gone at the crack of dawn one morning. her parents hadn’t heard from her until after she had after “break” from training. she met some obstacles along the way... and pulled through. hell, layla couldn’t believe it herself. finally, an airwoman with a commissioned and enlisted rank. it was a long road but it was all worth it.
felt inadequate throughout her life, feeling that she could never live up to her parents’ and their dynasty’s potential. however, after years of estrangement, layla was on good terms with her parents. they were all relieved and respected one another all the same.
before chaos ensued months prior to when the news broke that the dead were coming alive, the pilot had been injured and had no other choice but to return home. despite having lived in dallas for the majority of her life, she moved around when needed (or had to). she was with her family in texas during this time, somehow making her way to wellmont afterwards.
her marksmanship is remarkable. during her time in the armed forces, layla trained her ass off consistently and knows her way around weapons (guns!) like no other... thanks to her mentor, of course ! all in all, a 𝖇𝖆𝖉𝖆𝖘𝖘 𝖇𝖎𝖙𝖈𝖍 with a heart of gold.
unfortunately, parents sirvan and azita didn’t last long within the first year of the apocalypse. however, the rest of the eshtiaqs are thankfully in wellmont and have been since almost the beginning of the established safe haven.
