??? what is this ???
the worst 45 seconds of your life
Here at night
I went out tonight to visit a local bridge near my house. It’s a small bridge, made just for pedestrians and bike commuters, one that goes over the freeway and connects our city to the next one. The bridge is beautiful, well-lit on either side with tall blue railings, clearly way too fancy for the purpose it serves. I watched the cars below travel along the freeway, and took my time strolling across and back on the bridge, as no one and nothing was there to rush me. As I rode home in the darkness of the local bay trail, I thought about the big railings that surrounded the bridge and the purpose the railings served as a deterrent for potential suicides. It makes me sad that things that are so terrible are so commonplace in our lives that we have to go to this far in order to prevent them from happening. So unspeakably horrible, but just another part of the world we live in.
Here at night, I think of things that I often forget to think about, things that I don’t make time to think about. Many of these thoughts are things that some may not like to think about, thoughts that aren’t pretty, thoughts that aren’t meant to put a smile on your face. All the same, I feel like these are thoughts that are important for me to have, and I am grateful to have moments like these.
