Haha awesome!

“I-Is anyone t-there?” Hinata called out in a small mouse like voice, silently beginning to panic. The sound was distant, far off to the left of the dark hallway. The only illumination was a slither of light spilling from a cracked door down the hall. It was quiet, incredibly too quiet considering how many people she was used to living with. Her bright lavender tinted eyes opened widely as she continued her way down the dim hall, praying that it wasn’t another one of those “things”.
Hinata could feel her skin practically crawl away from her, her heart pounding heavily against her chest and filling her eardrums. Delicate slender fingers gripped the object she held tighter, holding it near her waist. Shoes pressed down into the hardwood floor as softly as possible. Her breathing began to grow more rapid, beads of sweat forming underneath her neatly cut bangs. Hinata swallowed a lump in her throat, senses on high alert as she pushed forward. It had been like this for days now, after being stranded in the middle of no where, there was nothing for her to do but investigate her place of refuge.
It was an old abandoned two story home, fit perfectly for a family of four. She couldn’t help but think what might have happened to them, why they have to leave their home when instructed to stay indoors?
Like that mattered.
Her hand started to shake at the thought painful images of a few days earlier shot across her mind. The screams of her sister as they watched those “infected” separate them from each other. Tears spilled down her rose tinted cheeks as she remembered the last words of her cousin just before they got separated. “WE WILL COME BACK FOR YOU HINATA-SAMA I PROMISE!” the faint voice of Neji ringing her mind as she turned the corner of the barely lit hall. Hinata’s bottom lip trembled as she tiptoed behind a figure who had it’s back to her, lifting her tremor shaking hand as she grew closer.
“A-Are y-you..alive?” she asked in an almost incoherent tone. The figure turned it’s head slowly and groaned out sounds resembling agony as it stood up and took step towards the small girl. She shook her head taking a step back making sure nothing was behind her. “P-Please s-s-stop! I-I don’t want t-to do t-this a-anymore!” she pleaded with the non sensible man. All she gained in response was more groans, an arm reaching out to catch her. Hinata took a deep breath and raised the katana she held tightly in her hands and brought it down into the infected’s skull, watching the body drop down to her feet.
She cried out in a raspy scream, dropping to her knees as well and took a moment to face her new reality.
-------------------------
The main reason she’d decided to cut through the residential area was less than moral. She’d always hated looters. When the riots were going on in the cities of Suna during her childhood her uncle would always board up the doors and grumble about the low lifes who’d always try to reap the benefits of those who’d fled in fear.
But those were different times. The world had ended and judging by the gaping hole in the abdomen of the pale teenager who hobbled toward her, the items in the house were no longer of value to it. Or to anyone else of this household, Temari figured grimly, as she glanced at the half-eaten corpses of a man and woman on the kitchen floor. She summoned up a burst of strength and slammed the walker head first into the ground- a satisfying crack resounding as her metal fan met undead skull.
After a quick check to make sure no one else-alive or dead- was in the house, she returned to the kitchen. Unfortunately it seemed like the deceased family had been running low prior to the outbreak. Everything in the fridge was useless to her and the large cans of food would be too heavy to carry. But they would work for a meal now. She opened a can of beans and a can of corn, preparing them each in their own pots and placing them on the stove. At least the gas and electricity hadn't been shut off. Yet.
While her meal cooked she searched for any lighter nonperishable foods and found a couple granola bars and a container of nuts she emptied out into a zip lock and put into her messenger bag along with two more bottles of water. She noticed the bag was beginning to be too heavy to shoulder around so her next task was to look for a backpack, easily found in one of the closets. It seemed like this family liked to go camping. Transferring the contents of her bag into the tan hiker backpack, she also added sanitary wipes, two walkie-talkies, and protective goggles.
Temari began to move quicker as she glanced at her watch. There was no point in keeping time anymore but she kept it to make sure she didn't stay in one place too long. The key to survival was constantly being on the move. Before she returned to the kitchen she stopped by what she assumed had been the teenager’s room. Only feeling the tiniest bit of guilt she traded her white tank-top for a tight, dark purple long-sleeve, swapped her red hoodie for a warmer black zip-up jacket and pulled on some white leggings up under her dark purple tennis skirt. She knew there’d be no keeping them clean but they would be something against the cold.
Suddenly, eager to be on the move again, she pulled the backpack on, deciding to just keep her fan on hand, she put her corn and beans into a tuppawear and grabbed a fork, both of which she put into the backpack to eat at the next place she stopped. It was then she heard the scream again.
It was coming from next door. Discernible this time: “Please stop”.
Before she could think about it she was dashing out the door and across the yard. She burst through the half-way open door and down a dark hallway, increasing the pace as she heard one last raspy scream. She came to a halt as she turned the corner- too late.
But for once, it was too late to make the kill but perhaps not too late to save the…
“Were you bit? Scratched?” Temari demanded of the trembling girl. She seemed only a few years younger than herself but an exact age was difficult to pinpoint – definitely high school age though.
I will find you two...We will be safe again.
“Don’t you know? Women have to be strong in order to survive!"
On the Run (@undeadsun)
The scent of the dead was still on the frosty wind. The cold air chilled the limping blonde so that her heaving breaths were visible in the frosty air. If it started snowing, which it was known to do in Konoha, she'd be really in trouble. The tennis skirt chosen for mobility purposes was now a terrible inconvenience as goosebumps began to rise on her long legs.
But she had to keep on the move despite the cold and the pain of her, now she was sure, sprained ankle. The adrenaline and cold had numbed the injury but still made it difficult to move fast and every time she stopped to catch her breath an infected would crawl out from under a car or hobble out of some alleyway. She needed to find someplace safe.
The heavy fan strapped to her back didn't help either but there was no way she was parting with her only weapon- especially since it had proved quite effective so far. She'd only put down one infected since her escape from her apartment but not due to lack of skill.
It was just that it had taken, she'd counted 7 seconds to put it down. Two and a half to unsheathe her fan and 5 to slam the undead onto the floor and bash its skull- twice, to make sure it was really going to stay dead this time. Seven seconds and she'd already attracted the attention of at least 4 more zombies who eagerly hobbled toward her. And that one had gone down pretty easy. She'd shuddered to think what would happen if it had taken her any more time.
So no. While killing these things was simple enough and, to her surprise, somewhat satisfying, it required time and energy she just couldn't afford to waste. So here she was, running for her life. Trying to stay on the main streets so she wouldn't be cornered and avoiding the particularly condensed hordes to difficult to dodge through.
Temari's stomach grumbled but she ignored it. She had a limited number of meal/energy bars and, until she found a place to stay, would restrict herself to one a day and only when she really needed it to keep her strength up.
Sighing silently at her unfortunate circumstances she then put on a hard face. Stern green eyes flashed with determination. There was no way she was going to let the 'end of the world' stop her, let alone from finding her brothers. She would keep moving no matter what.
That's when she heard the scream.
"Last New Year's I spent with my brothers at a festival...this New Year's I'm smashing in heads of undead cannibals...tch, just great..."
“To the outside world we all grow old. But not to brothers and sisters. We know each other as we always were. We know each other’s hearts. We share private family jokes. We remember family feuds and secrets, family griefs and joys. We live outside the touch of time.” ~Clara Ortega
"Really wish I had my motorcycle right now...It's loud but probably would have been useful. Too bad it's back in Suna..."
"Arghh, why? Why did it have to be zombie clowns?"
"We used to watch movies about zombie apocalypses...Heh, who would've thought it would ever actually happen. Damn it all,"
(Picture taken by family friend/babysitter Baki)
"Screw that! Anyone bitten gets put down immediately," *raises fan* "Like I'm risking adding more to the infected's numbers,"
Note: Bloody pictures are from Temari's small photo album she carries around with her. Non-bloody pictures are either memories or thoughts.
"Was it really just a few months ago we were at the beach...? That summer seems so far away..."
