The Boucherouite rugs are made in the 50s and early 60s by Moroccan Berber women, for domestic use. A functional and decorative object in their homes. Since the 50s nomadism is increasingly disappearing, and wool produced by sheepherding has been much reduced. Because wool is becoming rarer in Morocco, they started to use recycled synthetic materials such as scraps of cotton, nylon, lurex and occasionally wool. They worked intuitively so every Moroccan Boucherouite rug is a signature of the woman who made the Moroccan scrap rug. Each Boucherouite rug will have a different pattern. No two will ever be alike
