I love them your honor! (src)
I love that we got our first bits of the eventual bittersweet drifting apart Fjord and Jester will go through in the next season or two. Jester starting her whole Oskar view of Fjord, him being confused by it and how that will add to his existing confusion with Uk'otoa and self worth as he falls deeper down a dark path and Jester pulls away.
It's great that they're emphasizing their importance to each other now and how underneath it all there is genuine care/love. Because with a more limited runtime they don't have the luxury of giving us smaller moments between the two spread out over 100ish hours to showcase that same feeling.
Which makes me think they will also then emphasize even more their drift apart as a counter. We're going to get even more of Fjord taking for granted Jester's feelings for him and Fjords actions will probably be more sinister shattering how she see's him.
From there they will build the real relationship they eventually have and I can't wait for this heartbreak into the slowburn.
Got a feeling we're going to get a patented Fjord being awkwardly attracted to Jester moments in tomorrows episode.
Can't wait!
Double Spoiler Warning for TM9 Ep 7 adn Campaign 2
They do not have the right to do that Jester and Fjord goodbye scene without a warning!
Ughhh it’s such a perfect distilling of their relationship and their growth going forward as characters. Fjord being unwilling to fully accept the idea that he deserves nice things/happiness which is then doubled down on with Vandran’toa wanting him to be angry so it can use him. Jester’s fear of being alone and attachment to the ideas of people for better or worse as it helps her with Nott but is clouding her with the Traveler and Fjord.
But most important to their relationship going forward, was something Fjord says “[he] should find his own way first”. Obviously they’re both very important to each others growth throughout the story, but something so great about Fjorester imo is how they weren’t solely reliant on each other when it comes to changing their worldviews/perspectives on themselves.
So many fictional relationships tie their two romantic leads together so much so that they are basically one person instead of two. Some do this better than others, but it’s often very… fake/unrealistic and often boring especially when compared to real life imo.
All of this is to say, I cannot wait to see how they handle adapting this with Fjord and Jester. Them leaning to become loving/great friends first as they learn more about themselves is crucial to what makes them work so well together and so far it’s been done so well. I know more heartbreak is coming before it happens but I’m so ready for it because what it becomes is something so beautiful and special.
Oh man, what an episode, beside all the amazing animation and story this episode showcased the most important aspect of the M9.
Their little chats with each other, them fitting so many in setting every character and the relationships they will build I’m so excited! I know they said with the extra time it’s something they wanted to do, but man I did not expect it to be such a focus and hopefully it stays that way till the end.
I’ve always said I would genuinely watch a mini-series of the M9 living the most mundane days of their life because of how well actualized they are as characters. The show makes me crave it even more and I can’t wait for however many seasons it takes to see it all play out.
I wonder if they have the C2 ships get together sooner, It would make sense for at least Fjorester and Beauyasha, harder for Shadowghast I think. I don't expect it to be any time soon, but when (NOT IF, WE MANIFEST HERE!) the show gets to Travelercon it's genuinely the perfect time to push them forward a bit but not lose the slowburn.
Both pairings were very clearly circling each other like damn lions ready to pounce and it has some great moments. I'll only speak for Fjorester but Fjord constantly checking in on Jester throughout, then admitting how he felt to Beau all for it to culminate in him leaping over a damn volcano hanging on begging her to stay.
Him almost losing her right after admitting it's a fear of his to Beau works as a perfect stand in for her losing 5 years of her life in Eiselcross. My only reservation is this risks losing their ep 117 talk (my personal favorite), 117 into the ep 118 confession are such a good one-two punch.
I NEED Jester checking in on Fjord after he gives her the amulet that was supposed to protect him out of fear of Lucien watching her. I NEED the pregnant pause and loving smile as he stops himself from confessing because he needs to deal with his issues. I NEED the simultaneous "UP!".
These are foundational and they don't have to be exact but their essence is crucial to why I love them so much.
That has to be Kiri and her family in that new preview right???
Fjord and Jester seeing themselves happy as successful pirates or even poor country bumpkins in the mirror house...
I have no notes, it's going to be so amazing seeing them fall in love all over again. It's gunna hit so hard as we go on to see their own issues get in the way of their feelings and then have them realize it over the course of the show.
AHHHH I can't wait, haven't even seen a single episode full episode and they've already nailed their dynamic/story together.
I said before I hope they nail Fjord and Jester's playful intimacy and closeness before actually getting together and judging by the fact they're basically attached by the hip in every screenshot I have a feeling we're going to be eating good!
How is it that people are confused and disappointed with how Fjord looks lol? We have had his official art for 7 years now and that is just how he looks. He's never been scrawny that's just what Nott/Veth tease him about and is in comparison to other orcs.
Muscle definition and shape don't = actual strength. There is a reason having muscle just for aesthetic is well known thing. The body builders are not the same people winning lifting competitions.
Besides, one of the most canon important elements of Fjords design is...
THAT HE HAS TITS FOR DAYS!
I love how this is Travis/Fjord’s nightmare, long form imaginary shopping both in game and in real life. And he tried to play it off like it’s torture but continuously kept adding ideas and asking questions cause he can’t hide that he’s into it lol.
I can’t wait for the live show!
Obviously hyped for the wedding because of the Jester and Fjord of it all, BUT...
Something I'm looking forward to almost as much is the Marion and Babenon in-laws rp we surely will get right? Marion clocked Fjord as her future son-in-law frame 1 when she met the Nein but we never got to see her acknowledge them getting together. I'm sure she knew during the whole running from Trent and Astrid/Wulf bit they had at the end but I NEED to see how it is all these years later and especially with The Gentleman.
Both of them were very impressed by Fjord in different ways and I just know they tease him in the most loving ways possible. Genuinely would be down for the whole episode to not even have combat, I just want to see the Nein all together dealing with even the most mundane wedding troubles.
I really hope the M9 show nails Fjord and Jester's quieter playful intimacy throughout the campaign. Laura had said in one of the later Talks Machina's after they got together that she felt like the two had that even before it happened and she's right. If you watch (as in literally visually) the show there are so many little moments between them that happen in the background where she and Travis would be acting out in character goofing off with each other. It was also evident with how the two of them were constantly by each other too when it came to lineup orders, map placement and just following one another around.
Small things like this in addition to the bigger moments they had are what I loved so much about Fjorester and I desperately need the show to have some of that. Especially with the longer run time, in general as long as the show can nail the "found family" aspect of M9 making the story work is easy work.
Calling my shot now, the reason the numbers don't add up in the blurb is because Essek is going to show up way sooner and join them. They're going to double down on his betrayal and have him be with them longer so that knife twist hurts that much more.
Why else show off his design so much with the rest of the Nein and even have him on that wanted poster? I doubt it's from episode one or even half way but maybe he's how they get to Xhorhas in the first place?
Nott reveals all in her town, the Nein find Essek there in hiding and in trouble, they help him and he escorts them across the border as they're fugitives now.
I can't even begin to express how happy I am that the Mighty Nein show is going to be hour long episodes!
It was at the top of my wish list for the adaptation with how important simply interacting with each other is to the M9 and what makes it different/special.
I was worried that so much of that was going to be cut and ignored with the limited 30 min runtime and was willing to sacrifice dozens of battles in favor of an extra 20min of sitting in a pub and talking.
It's so perfect!
💙💚
Travis talking about how playing Fjord he put so much of himself into the character and he loved it but it also means he felt more exposed and stressed with how much of himself was out there (in a good way)...
It was so clear during the campaign especially once you hear his real life story. I love Fjord so much and I hope Travis continues to explore more complex characters. As much as I love his goofy characters he is so amazing playing things more serious and I would love to see it more often.
