“Learn what? Maths? English - a language you won’t even use in Japan aside with tourists. Science? What does that actually teach you in the real world? Does it teach you how to fight? How to defend yourself? How to hide from the humans you sit next to? No…it doesnt…living in the real world does…” He sighed..here he was trying to explain himself again. But both siblings were as stubborn as each other… “It is…far below me…I dont need Gym to teach me to climb a rope when I can use my wings to fly…” He frowned. “Your wings are limp…you might as well cut them off…”

“English is actually very beneficial if you actually gave it a chance,” said Touka. “School isn’t made for that. It’s there to make you smart; to teach you how to solve challenges and make strategies. To learn how to plan instead of going through things head on without thinking about it.” Touka sighed. “You might as well shut up and leave if you hate this place so much. At least Hinami is smart and knows that this place will help her.” And so the girl turned around and headed towards the campus.

“The manager tried to make me go too, remember?” Ayato remembered as the manager would purposely stand at the gate, waiting for Ayato to enter the building before leaving. What he didn’t find out until later was that Ayato would just run through the campus and exit out the back, jumping the fence and running around town for the day. “It is too human…being stuck surrounded by them…the minority…the prejudiced. Why would anyone put themselves in that situation is beyond me.”

She remembered. She just wasn't sure if he'd be okay with her metionimg it. "We learn in a place like this," said Touka, shrugging her shoulders. "Teaches us basic things about this plce we live in. Teaches us how to think quick and how to make strategies and how to analyze the situations. In Gym, it teaches you how to be strong physically," said the girl. "But of course that sort of thing would be 'below you', wouldn't it, dear brother?"

He sighed. He took his wrist out of her grip. She picked up one something for a change… “Maybe…for some reason, you girls always want to ‘better yourselves’ by wasting years…” He shrugged. “I just wanted to see if I’d get it if I looked but…I dont…still a waste of time…”

Touka glared. "I didn't want to go to school originally," said the girl. "The manager made me." Then she shook her head; no point in mentioning that. "It's a good school, I'm sure Hinami will like it. I'm not surprised you don't though; it's too human for someone like you."

“I was in the area…thought I’d see the sights…” He mumbled, half-heartedly. School was a big waste of time for him, none of the skills was useful outside….only survival and the ability to fight was all he needed… He noticed all the classmates pouring into the various campus. “You better get going then…” He mumbled, starting to walk away.

"Sights?" repeated the short haired girl, a brow raised in suspicion. The school looked nice, sure, but not so much that one would stop and stare. She had noticed students starts to enter the campus but for once she didn't care. "Wait," said the girl, grabbing on to Ayato's wrist. "Does Hinami want to study here?"

Ayato stood outside the local school, hands in his purple hoodie, he didn’t recognise the name, but he figured Touka would go to this school…plus, Hinami had told him it was this place. It looked quite fancy for a school…spotless…not even any rubbish on the ground… “So she made it after all…” He muttered, before picking up on someone staring at him. He turned and saw Touka.

She had stared at her brother before taking a few tentative steps towards him. She still couldn’t see his purpose, going here. He hated the very thought of school; it was too human for him; too peaceful and too kind. “What are you doing here?

With Hinami in her own room in Aogiri HQ, Ayato layed on his bed with his hands behind his head, staring up at the ceiling. He never should have agreed to go…it was a waste of time…just as he thought. Often when he was alone in the dark like this he thought about what was, and what could have been.

Deep down, he wished his sister joined him when he left for Aogiri, so that they may fight together side by side once again. Even further down…he knew she had strength, yet she never wanted to use it…and it was that which he couldn’t understand…

The next day, Touka had gotten up early to prepare the tea cups and the cakes. She was going to go to school today, but she wanted everything to be perfect before she left. The purple haired girl flicked the café's sign to say open and walked her way to school.

Almost there, she thought. But then she swore she saw that familiar purple hoodie and she stopped in her tracks. He couldn't be here now, could he? No, it couldn't be..."

He smiled and watched her eat some before turning his attention to his own foo. “Hey, i can think sometimes, im not a total idiot like others think I am”

"You're not an idiot, love," said the girl, pressing a kiss to his cheek. "You're a genius." Touka cleaned up her plate and brought it to the sink. "Thank you for the pancake. I loved every bit of it."

Ayato had his hand on the doorway when he heard that. Why was his heart beating to much…he swallowed and clenched the handle hard, almost snapping it as he opened the door. “This is why you’re weak…flesh and blood won’t save you out there…only strength will.” He said, just as softly but with a hint of warning in his tone. “…Watch your back.” He added before closing the door after Hinami left before him, meaning it to sound better than it did.

He heard the tea cup smash as they left, before the sound was taking up by Hinami’s sniffles. He elbowed her. “Don’t cry…tears won’t do anybody any good.” He sighed, letting her walk on ahead as he looked back at Anteiku for a moment, directing his view at the bedroom, where he and Touka lived for years…before closing his eyes and walking away.

Touka watched as they left. She had seen Ayato look back at their bedroom but she was unsure if he had noticed her. When they were out of view, she lay down on the bed, staring at the ceiling. Goddamnit. Why did they have to visit? What was the point? Why couldn’t they just leave her alone?

She slowly got up and looked for her rabbit mask. She had remembered how Ayato himself loved rabbits. She held it close to her chest. Why did think have to end up this way? “Fuck,” said the girl softly. Maybe he was right. Maybe she was getting soft. She threw the rabbit mask to the other side of the room and sat on the ground.

Shirazu smiles as he was making his own pancake “Your welcome sweetie, it was only a thought as well.” After a few minutes he gets done and takes a seat by her and starts to eat himself, happy he can eat with his girlfriend now.

Touka looked up at him and kissed his cheek. “Yeah, but it was genuis. If you haven’t thought about it, I wouldn’t be eating with you now.” Touka continued to eat her pancake, smiling when he seated himself next to her.

Touka’s body flushed and she bit her lip. Her chest was now exposed; goosebumps spread across her skin when the cool air hit her once covered up flesh. A moan left her lips when he latched his lips on her nipple and she ran her hands through his hair, her back arching slightly, silently asking for more.

Ayato stopped half way down the stairs, Hinami’s wrist in his grip but with a sigh he let her go, heading back up one step so Touka could see him from the doorway. “You say that, yet you can’t even beat me…and I’ll admit, I’m softer than anyone else in Aogiri…” He said, strangely calm. “If you’re not strong enough to take me down, you’re not strong enough to tackle what’s out there…” He turned back towards the stairs. “We’re done here, Hinami…” He commanded before leaving.

Hinami looked between the two siblings, as if torn. She stood in front of Touka with saddened eyes. “It’s because we love you, Touka-chan…deep down…” She added, concerning Ayato at least. She nodded at Ayato’s command and slowly followed him out, taking a lost, apologetic look towards Touka.

"I don't beat you because I don't want to," says the girl softly. "You're my brother, Ayato. Do you honestly think I want to beat up my own flesh and blood?" Touka sighed. He was doing this for her; she saw that now. But he was wrong. She was ready for what was out there, why couldn't he see that? Why was he babying her? Wasn't she the older sister?

When they left, Touka couldn't help but smash a tea cup. She didn't even bother cleaning it up. She ran up her room and lay there, hugging a pillow, her back against the window.

Ayato rolled his eyes “Tsk…” He put his head back to look at the ceiling from his chair, kicking off the floor so he would rock the chair. “Why don’t you just go cry about it-“ "Ayato please…" Hinami muttered at him, still facing the ground. "You said you’d let me-" "Then get on with it, God dammit!" He scowled from the chair. "Dont want to be here any longer than necessary."

Hinami sighed and dared not to look into Touka’s eyes. “I know…but…” She began to whisper so Ayato wouldn’t hear. “There’s more to it then you think…Ayato…me…Kaneki…we left because we have something to protect…” She was dying to tell teh truth…why they all had to leave her. Ayato’s head snapped up, eyes wide. “Aogiri let’s us protect you-“ "That’s enough!" He suddenly yelled, walking over and pulled Hinami back by her arm. "You’ve said enough! We’re outta here, c’mon!" He turned and dragged her behind him, heading out the store. "Ayato, no, please let me-!" She pleaded. "SHUT UP!"

'Aogiri let's us protect you.'

At those words, the girl's eyes widened. They were doing this for her? Why? It took her a moment to compose herself and when she did, she looked stronger than before.

"You don't need to protect me," said the girl loudly. She wondered if they even bothered to listen to her; it didn't matter. She was going to make sure they knew what she had to say anyway.

"I'm strong. I'm not that little girl you remember, Ayato," said the Ghoul loudly. "And Hinami, you know more than anyone that I can protect myself. I can be reckless, I admit, but that doesn't mean I'm stupid. If this is the only reason you are part of Aogiri, you might as well quit. I can handle myself."

A smile went across his face when he saw that she could eat the pancake “YES!!!” He fists pumps in the air then hugs her around her shoulders and kisses her cheek “I’m so glad you can Touka!! now we can have breckfest together!!” He was really happy for this, happy to see that Touka can eat that human food, so grateful. He lets go of her and goes to make himself one “Ill make mine and join ya!”

Touka grinned and hugged him tight, pressing a soft kiss to his lips. "It was your genius idea, you know. Thank you, Shirazu," said the girl softly. She sat back down and took another bite of her pancake; it was delicious.

"The only ignorant one here is you for thinking that being part of Aogiri immediately makes you worth my time." He snapped harshly at her and got up from the couch. He was so done listening to her bullshit. Sure he was glad she decided to abandon her shitty life and look for one where she could get stronger. But why Aogiri of all the places she could have went to? Why join an organization full of nothing but murders. Even if all the ghouls were murderers in humans’ eyes, that still didn’t make sense for her to simply throw her peaceful life away like that.

But that wasn’t the only thing making him mad. What was really tapping on his nerves was wondering how the hell he was supposed to protect her now that she joined him. Aogiri’s goals were anything but peaceful. They were going to get involved with the Doves much more than she already had on her own. They were going to destroy, murder, mess up the world. He didn’t want her to be part of that. It would only put her life in danger. And now he was partnered up with her. How the hell was he supposed to focus on fighting, when he’d be concerned for her safety all the time, and his eyes wouldn’t stop following her every move to make sure she wasn’t in trouble. It would make things harder, so much harder for him now to keep his promise and protect her.

Touka tried her best to mask the pain she felt, but she wasn't sure if she was doing it well. She bolted to her quarters, locking the door and flopping down on her bed. She needed some time to herself. She grabbed her bunny mask and hugged it; she had remembered that Ayato loved bunnies himself, though he'd never admit it. 

Speaking of Ayato, why did he have to hurt this way? Sure, he held a grudge due to what happened to their father, but she had though joining Aogiri would have changed his mind just a little bit. God, couldn't he see that everything she was doing was for him? She was here to protect him, to be the sister she promised to be. Of course he didn't, he was stubborn.

Just like her.
