overdue feels to spills

This song from The Poles makes me absolutely delighted because there's a part that reminds me of the glistening reflection of the moon in the lapping waves in the instrumental break.

When niel starts the dreamy singing before the last verse at 2:00, there's a really cool effect where it sounds like light is bouncing off a rippling surface. And then at 2.19, another layer of instrument wades in, like the waves bouncing off each other. Then comes 2:34, the start of my favourite part where the guitar becomes the moonlight dancing lightly on the water, playfully, endlessly, until the legato laps and laps and overlaps with the most frenetic energy that dissipates all at once before I hear:

I want to hear this live and feel the (sound)waves crash into me so bad like I'm a lonely coastline waiting for the high tide.

How did I manage to get a ticket for The Poles but!!!

Since it's not new album-centred this time, I'm hoping they'll do Moon in Water (for the instrumental break!), home (for my heart), and 우리에게 필요한건 (for my devastation) this time instead of just the recent festival usuals.

Dream is definitely going to be in the setlist since she got a beautiful remastering.

Again, how did I get a cancelled ticket???+!

The Poles just performed an unreleased song at Soundberry and min has got feels to spills!

Niel shared a little teaser for this new song a while back and my first thought was that it sounded more wave to earth-esque than The Poles. For the uninitiated, The Poles is a three-piece band who has settled in as my emotional band since July of 2021. I gravitate towards their songs for solace, for cathartic release, for courage, and for nostalgia.

I'm no musician but there's just something comforting about stable beats and classic tunes that The Poles always delivers. In the face of doubt and defeat, baring nothing but hearts on sleeves, I've been listening to the band sing about emotional turmoil disguised as upbeat melodies since there was not a one sleeved tattoo in the band. So Talk To Me Baby? A love song?! That got my curiosity piqued.

But of course, a love song isn't just that for The Poles.

Talk to me baby, with its bright intro and melody that makes you just want to twirl and dance! A little Bruno Mars' Marry Me (especially that change after the chorus), a bit of wave to earth's Play With Earth, but a whole lotta lyrical pining from niel. Also, the title's Echo (talk to me baby), I got to say "echo" is definitely more fitting for the band.

The increasing grit when niel sings this, the added texture from the guitar, and ending with an actual echo of "alright"... the outro is eight bars of climbing frustration with no resolution in sight.

It feels like evanescence, transient, pure high school puppy loveand I'm just being strung along for the ride (I'm happily signing up for it). (The styling for this performance is definitely lending a hand.)

So I stand corrected. It's not a departure from the band's after midnight hours angst to comfort genre, not a pivot to a love song so unbearably beautiful like wave to earth's daisy or light, but a little detour for the boys who are possibly in love?¿? Welcome to a new dimension for The Poles ✨️🖤

Anyways, talk to me baby is echoing (hah) in my mind now so I can't wait for the new album!!

Some chapters of life don’t actually have an apparent ending. They just fade away silently.

It’s a strange feeling to look back at the past sometimes and see how some parts of life have simply dissolved into nothingness. And even though this poem might sound sad, I believe that being mindful of the transience of life actually helps us to feel all the preciousness and beauty of it.
