Molly had no comfort to grant her grieving brother. There were many chances of this happening again, maybe not as horridly as Athena’s death, but their world was not getting anymore safe. The darkness was gathering, they would all need to fight against it in their own way. Her contribution was supporting her family and friends, hiding them and keeping them safe. All she could do was listen to Fabian, her heart aching as he said that he might not always be around. It sounded innocent enough, but she knew what else those words meant, the meaning they bore. “You will always be here in spirit no matter where you roam,” she commented softly, but she could not leave it at that. “Nothing is going to happen to you. You better not allow anything to happen to you.” She knew that something could, something probably would, but she was sure not going to let herself believe it. She needed to believe her beloved brothers would come through this darkness unscathed. Molly had to believe that.
She drank a sip of her tea, her eyes still on Fabian as she thought. In many ways, Molly would prefer not to know whatever trouble he had gotten himself into or Order business, but she also knew she needed to support him. “Most likely not - but you still need to tell us,” she replied truthfully.
It had pained him to say that to his sister. Molly had always been there for him, there was no-one he looked up to more. And he knew that he and Gideon had made things hard on her. The loss of Athena only served more to remind them all that they were in danger. As much as he did not want to die, though, there was something comforting in the thought that he would be remembered, that he would always have a place here. He nodded in response to her words, not wanting to say more about it, but deeply grateful for the love in them. “Gid and I will protect each other. Don’t worry about us. You’ve got enough to worry about, with all your little troublemakers,” he finished off, managing a final laugh as he let some of the painful sincerity drop in favour of his favourite subject.
Possibly, he shouldn’t tell Molly anything, given that she wasn’t part of the Order. No, not possibly - he knew Dumbledore and Moody would disapprove. And more than that, the more Molly knew, the more in danger she’d be. But Fabian had the habit of telling her everything, he didn’t know how to change that. “Then I will. There’s not much good news at the moment, though. And honestly, there’s never much we can do. We can’t kill them. We can’t even arrest them. All we can do is try to stop them. And clearly, we don’t do a very good job at that.” This time, his laugh was bitter, not fond. “Maybe that’s why I went to see Bellatrix,” he admitted, the attempt at being casual failing as his eyes darted to Molly’s face, knowing he’d see disapproval there.
