The Story of Snowboarding - wut up
I really need to get a contents bar on this thing...
Manboys - Jumping over Cows and Dead Fish
The season is upon us and the Manboys are sending it! So if you need a little bit of inspiration right now before heading to the hills check out this video. Have a great Monday everyone!
Season almost over? its never over.
With the season wrapping up its really too bad. I have a concussion anyways so my seasons been over since January so whatever. BUT There is always the summer season. Being finally in Europe, there is summer snowboard camp in Norway. Believe it or not its a fraction of the cost to go up there and snowboard compared to going to Camp of Champs that has exclusive access to their parks. Lame. SO If in despair head over to Norway, and go to Fonna for summer camp. Its going to be rad!
Get outta town? Do you even ride pow?
If you want to watch some rad shred videos of some pretty dope dudes riding pow this is for you. Devun Walsh and a newly formed group of old and younger riders hits the backcountry for some epic backcountry boaters. Some of the music is rad, some is "cozi cozi" if you're picking up what I am putting down.
Just watch it. You won't regret it.
Post 150 what what? teasers can be fun too
Well though the cover of this teaser may be deceiving the footage in the teaser made me forget all about it for almost three minutes. Almost end of the season? don't worry. get stoked and go snowboarding!
Road to Korea
Who doesn't like a little screwing around? the boys from Whistler on their days off from riding backcountry are hitting park jumps and generally having a good time.
my co workers should look into doing some of this lol
More Rusty - Check this part out
Oh my goodness it has been a while since I have been blogging! Apart from a killer snowboard season and then a shitty concussion I have been busy.
My last post was about Rusty Ockenden. Quoted from the famous words of Mark Mcmorris, many really good Canadian snowboarders get stuck when they move to Whistler and nothing else happens in their careers. Thats not an exact quote but its really true. A lot of pro's end up struggling because there just isn't the amount of exposure for snowboarding in Canada as there is in the U.S. Is it harder to be pro here? Probably. There are a lot less serious film crews, and guys making parts for videos.
Is there still a lot of sick shredders? Hell yeah. I think Canada has some super strong snowboarders (from my limited experience in Europe and the US.) Not to mention the snow here is fantastic. So here's Rusty's part from the Sandbox film "Now you know." A little Vancouver based company. This is his finisher part… filmed in the 2009-2010 season. Holy shit.
We're Back! and with Rusty Ockenden!
Truth be told I have been pretty busy as of late, taking trips and mostly snowboarding a ton. Its pretty sweet to be "funemployed" as my friends like to call it.
Rusty is a all Canadian ripper, sending it big in the Whistler backcountry. I am super stoked on his style for a while now, especially with some of his older parts. I am trying to find his new Dopamine remix video, but can't find one with a good embed code. Anyways. Get stoked on this guy, has super solid spins, solid landings and rock solid style. A modern day tadashi I think. I wish my spins looked like his.
Enjoy!
Stubai edit with Hoppipolla
Rad song, rad riders, rad resort. What else could you ask for? With these three olympic hopefuls ramping up for Socchi its nice to see that they can still keep it real and have fun. So time to get stoked and land some front flips :)
Ahh the Scandalnavians
The Scandalnavians is the follow up film to the hugely successful Random Bastards "Blue Balls" video from last year. You should definitely check it out if you haven't seen it yet. These guys pretty much dominate the Scandinavian rail scene when it comes to Norway. They also look like they are having a lot of fun doing it too. This is Part 1 so be ready for part 2 soon.
Ducksjen! The classic movie.
I think the DUCKSJEN films are my favourite snowboard videos of all time. They are original. To recap, it was just a bunch of sponsorless or near sponsorless snowboarders from Norway, without a film budget, and without any professional editing ability. Just some dudes looking to do something cool and have some fun. And look at what they produced. Its gold.
If you need to get stoked up for winter, or just getting ready for a rail session, watch this video. These guys will get you hyped with there ordinary to extraordinary snowboarding.
Scandalnavians - What what in the butt
Ahhh don't you love when people don't take snowboarding seriously all the time? A teaser for the new Scandinavian movie, this time a slightly different, slightly gayer version of snowboarding for the massing to anticipate. With lots of rails, and lots of railing, these guys sure do have a good time with each other...
Style: 8/10
Music: 4/5 lol but it was catchy
Technicality: 6.5/10 I think they are saving there bangers
Edit: 10/10 Nice work editor???
Can it be??? The Final Ducksjen edit?
I love Kasper Haggstrom's edits. They are cool, original and I just get stoked on riding them. It making snowboarding seem like a fuck ton of fun. Which it is. But I mean film can make good things look bad or bad things look good. So I am Kasper is doing snowboarding some justice.
Kasper Haggstom in my opinion, has had a huge effect on snowboarding. This dude takes such a unique and fun look at snowboarding. I hope people remember his edits. I know I try to make snowboarding feel like these videos do.
RK1 Season Recap
RK1 is composed of three snowboarders, all from Norway. There is the Kicker killer Stale Sandbeck, Street thug Len Jorgenson, and the all around sensation that is Alek Oestreng.
These guys snowboard hard, with shots from park, pipe, street and a wee wee bit of powder, these guys are pretty balanced riders, hitting everything from kinked curve handrails to enormous Stadium Jumps.
Its not the best edit I have seen from Olav, partially to do with the song repeating itself about 3 times which can definitely become repetitive. Other than that this is a fantastic little edit and should get you stoked to ride some park before they actually open.
Style: 8.5/10
Edit: 7/10 Could have been more diverse
Music: 2/5 I like the song, but not OVER AND OVER AND OVER. I can watch Nyan Cat if I wanted that.
Technicality: 10/10 On the jumps, 8/10 on the Rails. 9/10
Thats 7.5 out of 10 boys and girls. Not terrible, but not mind blowing.
Scandalnavians Week! - Teaser
If you watched Random Bastards "Blue Balls" last season you will know what I am talking about. if you haven't seen it. Think of what happens when you expose children to freezing outdoor temperatures, excessive amounts of snow and a viking mentality. And there you have it, the Scandalnavians team.
Somewhat of an offshoot from the Ducksjen Era of Scandinavian videos, these guys jib, jump and do a little messing around on there own. This video has enough personality to make your kindergarten teacher vomit. So take a seat, and get stoked.
The Gigi effect - Nike Finisher
With snowboard season in effect across the continent (sorry europe I have no idea) its hard to even post videos cause I have been trying to snowboard a ton.
Well don't worry, Gigi is here to rescue you. This is a perfect kickoff to the season. Tons of powder booters, big lines, and just fun riding. To be honest I really enjoy watching when there are a couple pretty sick lines, that are imaginable to you - like "oh that was so sick! I need to try that." Doule corks are fun to watch but riding like Gigi's gets me stoked, cause it looks fun and somewhat reasonable. I don't think I could ever do a double, so though its rad for sure, but it could be a quad cork for all I care, it is so past my level its not really relatable. I guess thats what I am trying to hone on in, something you can relate too.
Music: 4/5
Style: 9/10 He is so sick, I really enjoy the humanity of Gigi's riding, if that makes sense.
Edit: 6/10 It was done by Nike, its for the shots.
Technicality: 7/10 Some was tough, some was just sweet.
Does anyone even look at this blog lol? Send me a message on what you would want to see, or even one of your own edits. Or how your season is going. And keep updated, tons of full videos on the way.
Welcome to illyria - Hoppipolla
Though Hoppipolla is a hat company, and though I have never seen any of there hats in my local snowboard shops. They have a sick team, and choose their riders pretty well. The stuff they do is generally pretty original and just a lot of fun.
As for this edit, I don't like the music anymore. Because I have watched it about 50 times. That's right, you all think you are so hardcore, but do you watch snowboard videos for hours on end, analysing every switch landing for stompability??? I didn't think so...
I need some friends.
Technicality: 6.5/10 Not super Tech... (wait for it)
Style: 9/10 Pretty wicked style all these dudes have (yoda speak)
Editing: 9/10 That was just a fun video to watch
Music: 4/5 (I listened to it too much to be critical)
