Iâm????
Oh my God this actually explains so much.
So thereâs a known thing in the study of human psychology/sociology/what-have-you where men are known to, on average, rely entirely on their female romantic partner for emotional support. Bonding with other men is done at a more superficial level involving fun group activities and conversations about general subjects but rarely involves actually leaning on other men or being really honest about emotional problems. Men use alcohol to be able to lower their inhibitions enough to expose themselves emotionally to other men, but if you canât get emotional support unless youâre drunk, you have a problem.
So men need to have a woman in their lives to have anyone they can share their emotional needs and vulnerabilities with. However, since women are not socialized to fear sharing these things, womenâs friendships with other women are heavily based on emotional support. If you canât lean on her when youâre weak, sheâs not your friend. To women, what friendship is is someone who listens to all your problems and keeps you company.
So this disconnect men are suffering from is that they think that only a person who is having sex with you will share their emotions and expect support. Thatâs what a romantic partner does. But women think thatâs what a friend does. So women do it for their romantic partners and their friends and expect a male friend to do it for them the same as a female friend would. This fools the male friend into thinking there must be something romantic there when there is not.
This here is an example of patriarchy hurting everyone. Women have a much healthier approach to emotional support â they donât die when widowed at nearly the rate that widowers die and they donât suffer emotionally from divorce nearly as much even though they suffer much more financially, and this is because women donât put all their emotional needs on one person. Women have a support network of other women. But men are trained to never share their emotions except with their wife or girlfriend, because that isnât manly. So when she dies or leaves them, they have no one to turn to to help with the grief, causing higher rates of death, depression, alcoholism and general awfulness upon losing a romantic partner.Â
So men suffer terribly from being trained in this way. But women suffer in that they canât reach out to male friends for basic friendship. I am not sure any man can comprehend how heartbreaking it is to realize that a guy you thought was your friend was really just trying to get into your pants. Friendship is real. Itâs emotional, itâs important to us. We lean on our friends. Knowing that your friend was secretly seething with resentment when you were opening up to him and sharing your problems because he felt like he shouldnât have to do that kind of emotional work for anyone not having sex with him, and he felt used by you for that reason, is horrible. And the fact that men canât share emotional needs with other men means that lots of men who canât get a girlfriend end up turning into horrible misogynistic people who think the world owes them the love of a woman, like itâs a commodity⊠because no one will die without sex. Masturbation exists. But people will die or suffer deep emotional trauma from having no one they can lean on emotionally. And men who are suffering deep emotional trauma, and have been trained to channel their personal trauma into rage because they canât share it, become mass shooters, or rapists, or simply horrible misogynists.
The only way to fix this is to teach boys itâs okay to love your friends. Itâs okay to share your needs and your problems with your friends. Itâs okay to lean on your friends, to hug your friends, to be weak with your friends. Only if this is okay for boys to do with their male friends can this problem be resolved⊠so men, this oneâs on you. Women canât fix this for you; you donât listen to us about matters of what it means to be a man. Fix your own shit and teach your brothers and sons and friends that this is okay, or everyone suffers.
The next time a guy says, âWhat? You don't want to be my friend?â Iâll text him this and then ask if he really wants to be friends or just have another potential girlfriend.
yâall I am living for these analyses where the new way to fight the patriarchy is to teach men to love each other and themselves
Im a communication student and can confirm the above is absolutely 100% accurate and itâs called agentic vs communal friendship theorized by Steven McCornack

I have to reblog for two reasons:
1)This is actually a good way to get people into reading.
2)That passive aggressive joke in the last one is pure genius.Â
fucked up how cooking and baking from scratch is viewed as a luxuryâŠ..like baking a loaf of bread or whatever is seen as something that only people with money/time can do. Iâm not sure why capitalism decided to sell us the idea that we canât make our own damn food bc itâs a special expensive thing thatâs exclusive to wealthy retirees but itâs stupid as hell and it makes me angry
bread takes like max 4 ingredients counting water and sure it takes a couple hours but 80% of that is just waiting around while it does the thing and you can do other things while itâs rising/baking plus im not gonna say baking cured my depression bc it didnât but man is it hard to feel down when youâre eating slices of fresh bread you just made yourself. feels like everythingâs gonna be a little more ok than you thought. itâs good.
bread is amazing and itâs also been sold to us as something really hard to make? Every time I tell someone I made a loaf of bread I get reactions like âyou made it yourself???â and âdo you have a bread machine then?â I havenât touched a bread machine in probably 10 years. You CAN make your own bread, folks, and itâs actually pretty cheap to do so. I believe the most expensive thing I needed for it was the jar of yeast. It was about $6 at the grocery store and lasted me MONTHS (just keep it in the fridge.) The packets are even cheaper. destroy capitalism. bake your own bread.
You can also make your own yeast by making a sourdough starter, so that cuts cost even more.
But you have to feed the starter daily/weekly and that means it grows quickly, but there are tons of recipes online for what to do with your excess starter. Cookies, pretzels, crackers, pancakes, waffles, you name it!!
Hereâs a link to The Home Baking Associationâs site. It has recipes and tips.
Bread is simple and inexpensive, sure, but in my case itâs a matter of space. I live in a very small apartment and there is not room in the kitchen for me to knead dough. Cheap living spaces often have very small kitchens, which is a barrier that a lot of people have to overcome if they want to make their own food.
Lucky for us, there are plenty of no-knead bread recipes that are delicious. They take up less space and are fairly simple, but they do require a much longer rising time. So if you want to make your own bread and do not have space in the kitchen, I would start collecting recipes that are advertized as âno-knead.âÂ
Here is one to get you started.Â
Pro tip from a qualified baker, put a large shallow dish/tray of water in the bottom rack of your oven when preheating it. This brings the humidity of your oven up and stops your bread from drying out as soon as it hits the hot (normally dry) air, and allows it to kick (finish rising), and makes for an overall better texture, consistency, and crust. In commercial bakeries the ovens have a steam function, but filling a shallow tray or giving the heating elements a spray with water achieves practically the same result.

Whenever I have time off:
Expectation: Iâm going to read these books and do all these chores and start a big project and organize everything-
Reality: *sits under a blanket and makes every excuse not to move*
One thing Iâve learned in life, if you act really self-assured and confident you can pretty much get away with anything.
For example, Iâve watched someone walk on to a plane with no passport. Just walked right on.
Once walked out of a dudeâs house with a pair of his pants slung over my shoulder. Did all the usual eye-contact, saying-goodbye movements and noises, just⊠while stealing his pants. He did not notice.Â
I told my English teacher that she graded my final paper(I did not turn one in) and that she told me it was well written. She scrambled 3 days trying to find the nonexistent paper, then apologized to me for losing it and gave me a 96%. Confidence is key
my dadâs mate just walked out of a shop with a canoe and didnât get questioned
Humans are like bees: if they sense youâre an intruder all hell will break loose, but if you get inside the hive they just assume you belong there. Be confident.
Bee confident
This is funny but also true, and a huge tip when traveling. Act like you belong, and you wonât be bothered like other tourists might. Especially on public transportation⊠do your research ahead of time and look like a disinterested commuter and youâll blend right in.
Fun Fact about Bees: they use pheromones to communicate and the pheromone to signal ALARM is the same chemical that makes bananas smell like bananas so if you eat a banana and then breathe on a beehive you will regret it and this seemed relevant when i started writing it

DM: Please describe your new character
Me: ok cool *literally just says the lyrics of Short Skirt/Long Jacket by Cake*
needless to say, Iâve been thinking about this all day and have over analyzed this to try to determine exactly what this character would be. So class:
I want a girl with a mind like a diamond I want a girl who knows whatâs bestÂ
Its clear from these lines that she has high intelligence and wisdom. Intelligence is emphasized with the lines â She is fast and thorough/And sharp as a tackâ and considering she is fast she likely has high dexterity.Â
So this is a Dex/Wisdom/Intelligence build which makes me think that she is a ranger. She may, however be using a dueling fighting style instead of archery, since later lines say she âuses a macheteâ so she clearly has still with one-handed weaponry.
Her alignment is suggested in two instances. One being âWith fingernails that shine like justice.â Though this doesnât necessarily mean she idealizes justice, this can be implied. So she is on the good end of the good/evil spectrum, and because she âuses a machete to cut through red tapeâ she clearly is not lawful. She does not get bogged down with bureaucracy but cuts through it. There is not other indications that she chaotic, so I am inclined to call her neutral, making her neutral good.Â
Her race is harder to pin down, but given that she was âeyes that burn like cigarettes,â that may suggest that she was red or orange eyes. This means Drow or Tiefling. Now, given that she also has, âshoes that cutâ this could suggest that she has sharp hooves, meaning Tiefling. I would also point out that she changes her name from Kitty to Karen, and Tiefling are known for taking on new names.Â
So TL:DR, the girl with a short skirt and long jacket is a neutral good tiefling ranger named Karen who specializes in a dueling fighting style
This is the best D&D-related post Iâve seen in months, fantastic work.
please remember that in a healthy, adult relationship (romantic or not), you should be able to talk about things that are bothering you. if you are bottling up your emotions and holding it against someone when you havenât told them what is wrong, youâre not engaging in healthy behaviour. but also, if your friend/significant other makes you feel as though you canât talk about what bothers you- i.e. has made you feel guilty/gotten extraordinarily angry when things were brought up in the past- they are not engaging in healthy behaviour.
