Cerative Analysis and Design Strategies
In a variety of investigations, we generated an understanding of the place in relation to the local study area as well as the large-scale context of the planning area. The aim was to get to know the place in depth and gain perspective on the topic and the task at hand. The special location of the design area in the city as well as the urban context required a step-by-step approach from the overall urban scale to the specific location. Based on the objective analysis as well as the subjective creative input, viable urban concepts were developed by the BTU students, which serve as starting points for the urban designs.

The concept revolve around merging the site into the Neukohln social vibe by export, as a result form the analysis we found that the mixed use of the existing site diminishes its social vibe and render it into an unactive site , the concept is to export the neighboring potentials which surrounds the site form each side , north there is the Treptow and Golitzer park possible connection through an abandoned railway turned into a green passageway flexible for interventions , from the east a new s-Bahn station that will change the site completely giving a new vacuum to be filled , form the south the water front and its neighboring side public areas surrounding the water front and lastly the west side which already contain a neighboring public park with cultural potential in the Stadt library and the wall of berlin passing through both sites , the intervention is moving from micro to macro scale through the site to calibrate between the potentials found and to conservator the balance already in the site from the function wise.

In connecting Neukölln, Alt-Treptow with three major points, the landscape becomes the main discipline- it integrates the existing gardens (Rübezahl Gemeinschaf Park, Volks Park, Görlitzer Park, and Treptower Park). And makes the central axis sustainable and greener. This green strip also coordinates existing green niches and allotments and intervenes in the urban structure.
Staging the “Berlin Wall’ heritage traces in a green space strip to be connected and continued as an open space in the area and qualifying the canal “Kiehlufer” with the green belt strip, to be both engaging a strong background in public spaces in this area and intersected with the previous green connected strip.
In a pedestrian’s friendly pathway street and the new public squares connect public spaces with the surroundings and train station in a hierarchy and making the new site match fit with the whole area. and mixed-use creating sustainability, the outcome is a mixed, diverse, and inhabitable new urban quarter.
THE GREEN-URBAN ENVELOPE

The area will be transformed in the coming years by a new train station and some building transformations. Starting on this point and after analyzing the current situation, the focus is on creating 2 major axes to dynamize the site, while connecting the different open spaces to each other:
One north/south axis, starting from the old railways expressed as a green corridor, passing by the Siemens center redefined as a multi-use public space, and going all the way to the canal front thus reactivating it. Also, opening the allotment gardens to a public space with the creation of a new plaza.
On the other axis, our idea is to bind the new central plaza around the train station to the area, by connecting the already active area and parks.
Another idea is rethinking the wall path as a corridor for congregation opposing to its original image as a symbol of separation.
Concept
Adil Dholakia and Durrah Mukadam
The three parallel street networks which are very strong individually but are disconnected from each other. It can create good synergy by introducing a combination of interstitial public spaces, interactive street planning, introduction of squares, landmarks and plazas. That cater individually to the study zones that are created.
The separated allotment garden communities can act as a green lung and heart of the study area. As well be an economic catalyst for the region and giving opportunity to the users residing to generate an income and utilise the plazas and square which can also act as formal setting which can also attract new users from surrounding neighbourhood.
The passing of the former berlin wall strip can be used as an activation point for creating a conjuncture. This lane in the neighbourhood can be used to connect the zones.
Identification of underutilised plots for introducing the connectors between all the new elements and reactivation of study area is the key to the planning.
Memory and nature in the city Francisco Mondaca Molina
The project design brings a solution to two main problems: 1- The disconnection of the site with its history. Which today is translated into infrastructure in a state of oblivion and disuse.
2- The physical division of the urban space because of the S-Bahn and the highway. As a consequence, the green spaces of the city are isolated and do not allow the flow of pedestrians or non-humans.
The project's strategy consists in the reactivation of the neighborhood's historical axes and the connection of its main green areas, in order to restore the urban fabric.
Two historical axes will be promoted (Berlin Elektrópolis and the Berlin Wall) and the green area of the treptower park and the Landwehrkanal will be connected.
The intersection of these axes will result in a new urban center. The road network, the heights of the buildings and the public space will be redesigned in order to return it to a pedestrian scale.
