Major Update to the Drive and Folders Within
After much consideration and taking into account the community feedback we have received, we have decided to add a new folder to the Drive.
There was a lot of discussion about the usage of the standardized versions of the ORV characters' names. In the past, we decided to keep the old spellings of the names of the major/important characters for the sake of fandom unity. Since much of the Western/English fandom is used to the old spelling of the names (Yoo Joonghyuk instead of Yu Junghyeok) and continue to use them every day for tagging, discussion and searches, we didn't want new readers to enter the fandom and be confused when they are unable to find art or see a drastically different spelling of the names if we went with the standardized ones. We have also been standardizing the minor/side characters starting in volumes 4 and 5 since they are less important for the above reason.
However, our intent for this project is to be as accurate as possible to the source material, and we didn't want to only use the old spellings when that is just simply not how their names are spelled. As such, we have decided to create two folders: one containing the versions we have used until now, and a copy of all of them, except ALL of the names are standardized.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DRIVE LINK HAS NOT CHANGED. IF YOU ALREADY HAVE THE DRIVE LINK, IT SHOULD TAKE YOU TO THE SAME PLACE. YOU DO NOT NEED A NEW LINK.
When you enter the Drive now, you will see this. All of the files found within are exactly as you left them and have been reading until now. Those versions will now be in "Old Version of the Names" file.
Since our editing team is in the process of doing a lot of minor formatting and consistency updates to the documents, they have decided to also create a "standardized" copy that they will be adding to the "Standardized Names" folder.
What you can expect in the "ORV Retranslation Standardized Names" folder:
All the names of the characters, both major and minor, will be standardized (Yu Junghyeok, Jeong Huiwon, Lee Hyeonseong etc)
At this time (2/21/26) ONLY Volume 1 is available in Google Doc and PDF version. Volumes 2-5 will become available in due time as the editing team finishes their consistency updates.
What you can expect in the "ORV Retranslation Old Version of Names" folder:
NO CHANGES to what you all have had so far, other than the edits for consistency that the editing team is currently working on.
Volumes 1-5, both Google Doc and PDF versions.
ONLY the major/important characters will have the "old" spelling of the names (Yoo Joonghyuk, Jung Heewon, Lee Hyunsung etc), along with a footnote marking what the standardized spelling is (basically, the same as it has been up until now).
MINOR characters from volumes 1-5 will maintain whatever spelling they currently have as of 2/21/26. We will NOT be changing those that have already been standardized back to the old ones.
MOVING FORWARD we will NOT standardize any of the minor characters for these versions of the documents either!
Shin Yooseung's name will remain the same regardless of the fact the Western fandom knows her as "Shin Yoosung". Please see this post for explanation why.
If you're someone who wants to read ORV with the standardized/"new" spelling of the names without having to mass replace them yourself, we have created a separate folder where we have already done it for you. Not all the documents are in there yet, but the editing team will be adding them in as they finish their ongoing consistency edits. Otherwise, nothing at all has changed to the documents you know, except now they're in the folder labeled "Old Spellings".
We encourage you to read and/or download whichever versions you want for your personal use.
Please let us know if you have any questions, if we missed any spelling changes to the Standardized versions, or if you are unable to view both of the folders/have any issues with the documents.
Our editing team will continue with the consistency edits and with adding to the Standardized folder while the translation team continues with Volume 6. We hope you continue to enjoy the project moving forward.
