“You’re still the man I love, that hasn’t changed. I know you won’t hurt me or our child.”
❝ It’s taking a lot of restraint not to, I’ll tell you that much. ❞
“Only if you don’t ask permission.”
❝ Amazing that you can trust me when I can’t even trust myself. ❞
“Next person to touch my stomach gets a fork in the eye.”
❝ Even the father of your child? ❞
Still a convict. And that’s a …stupid phrase. And not really at all applicable to the situation.Â
❝ Not still a convict. More of a... psych patient. It’s a very valid phrase.    And yes, yes it is. ❞
The whole prison bit seemed to argue the contrary. And how? More importantly, why?
❝ It’s the only place they have for people who were hijacked like me. Oh,    curiosity killed the cat. ❞
Well, I ended up with a…convict. I think I got the worse of the two deals, really. And I could so!
❝ First of all, I’m not a convict. Second of all, prove it.  ❞
No. I’ve no patience for philosophy. And….nothing. Nothing in particular.
❝ How in hell did I end up with an oddball like you. ..I bet you couldn’t even    find your way out from here.  ❞
Always, and…no. One is never lost. One just…makes some unexpected turns.
❝ Aren’t you the philosopher. So what is it you’re looking for? ❞
❝ Looking for something, are we? Or we just lost? ❞
...Well, this place is...curious?
…Oh. As the realization hit her, Pandora kept her face neutral. Well that certainly explained a lot - the fighting between her mother and father, how little he came to see her. She was silent for several seconds before clearing her throat. Well that’s…a bit awkward then.
Uryston scoffed. Had he been younger, he might have felt resentment towards her. But he felt nothing. She was still a stranger to him. An odd stranger who just so happened to be a victor. I suppose it is.
" Of course I’ll hurt you. Of course you’ll hurt me. Of course we will hurt each other. But this is the very condition of existence. To become spring, means accepting the risk of winter. To become presence, means accepting the risk of absence."
I don’t know if men like us ever find peace, Mr. Bolan. In this world or the next. But I hope so. I really do.

Never the Same | Oneshot
"Uryston!" "Ury!" "Big Ted!" The children of the grain fields cried out when Uryston made his way through them. Something was different about his face. Something changed in the way he held himself. It was no longer back straight, head held high. It was now, head held down, crease in brow, fingers tightly wrapped around the sickle. The children started to notice it when he came closer. The angry look in his eyes.
”..Uryston?” One of the younger ones asked.
"What." There was something sharp about the way he answered them.
"What’s wrong?"
Uryston began to get to work, slicing at the grain while the kids were behind him. He hoped that by the way he looked at them, they’d just leave him alone and find out he didn’t want to talk. He never felt like talking anymore. Never felt like singing. So, he stayed quiet.
"Yeah, Ury, what’s the matter?"
Still, he said nothing and kept working, his back turned towards them. He heard them whispering amongst themselves, and finally one spoke up about Mal. The one subject that he really didn’t want to talk about anymore. Period.
"Is it about Mal?"
So they noticed. It didn’t really surprise him. Once Mal had started growing distant, Uryston’s mood kept dropping. He stopped harvesting for a second, debating on whether or not to answer them. Barely, he shook his head, and he got back to work. It wasn’t any of their business.
"Y’all better get back to work before the Peacekeepers see you." It was as good as any answer for them, because a lot of them realized he was right and scattered off to their posts. One stayed, however, holding his own little sickle. Uryston noticed and stopped once again, finally turning around. The kid had to be about six years old. He was tiny. He should have been in school, not working. Not yet.
"Didn’ ya hear me? Go on, get outta here."
"It’s Mal, innit? Ever since he won the Games.. Ever since he came back, it ain’t been the same for you both. Right?"
Uryston’s jaw tightened, as did his hand around his sickle. He would have just sliced the kid’s head off right then and there if he didn’t have a conscience. The kid wasn’t backing off, and he had a feeling he wasn’t going to leave until Uryston gave a satisfactory answer. He sighed and gave up, averting his eyes to the ground.
"Kid, it’s best you just leave it alone. Things ain’t never gonna be the same again. Now go on back to your post."
