what a rip ♚ hakuno & shinkai

For every bizarre looking people in this city, there looked to be only one that would be considered ‘normal’. Though, as Hakuno considered that, she supposed the abnormal was ultimately normal for her, someone who had no recollection of the mundane to begin with. The Holy Grail War of the Moon Cell had been teeming with quirky individuals, Master and Servant alike.
Regardless, she’d always seen herself as a plain individual. She was a nice, normal person that had a bad habit of getting mixed up with the strange. Coming to this city pretty much reaffirmed that.
So maybe it was predictable that she’d fallen into this completely predictable cliche of bumping into someone. Well, not really him personally, but… he’d been carrying a bag and her hand had accidentally caught it while passing. And RIP, there went the contents all over the floor. Scrambling, Hakuno begun to pick things up. “…I’m sorry! I’m sorry!" Was all she could muster in hopes of forgiveness.
All things considered, he was mostly normal. When taken from home, he was a third year student and a part time road racer... to him, anyway, that was particularly generic. Unimpressive. He didn’t mind that so much, either. And here it was no different -- in a world of strange clothing and superhuman abilities he had only ever seen in manga comics, he was stark. Plain. Normal as can be.
As the girl ran into him, she even seemed similar enough... not that he would realize it right off the bat that she wasn’t, of course. His tote bag spilled to the floor and among small trinkets and a weird assortment of pet food and treats came a surprise (and perhaps an explanation); Usakichi, his beloved rabbit companion, had hopped out to avoid the crossfire of which he was quick to bend down and pick him up--
Or, well, He tried. The rabbit was interested in the new person, brave despite his timid species. He had risen to his hind feet, sniffing up at her with what Shinkai could swear was a curious expression. How... interesting.
“Don’t worry about it. He’s unharmed, you see.” He said in his easy tone, as always -- admittedly, he had been nervous to see his pet tumble out like that, but upon seeing that things were fine, he became fine, too. On his face he wore a lazy smile, watching the pair for a moment before reaching for the scattered supplies on his own.
“His name is Usakichi.” Said like a proud parent “He seems to like you.”
「 ❄ “Okay, so. Here’s the deal.”
He points at you and then your ever so eco friendly vehicle, lips pressed into a thin line.
“I’m gonna need the bike. It’s, like. A total emergency. Hope you don’t mind.”
No, Red, he probably will mind, and just because Professor Oak’s presence over you and your bike is gone, itdoesn’t mean you can just take others to test indoors—

The bike?
Well, Shinkai wasn’t given a bike in this whole experience. Not that he minded -- wasn’t like there was a race or anything he was missing out on. What he was standing next to, in fact.... was something that was very much not a bike at all! Toudou had hastily shown it off in an attempt to possible pawn the “eyesore” off on him. Of course -- if it wasn’t beautiful, his teammate wanted nothing to do with it.
“This?” He gestured. “It’s not mine and... not a bike, but. I don’t think Jinpachi will mind.”
And if he did? He’d come up with that answer later.

When owning a dog, it was only natural to want to take them for a walk. Among other things, it was a great bonding activity and provided exercise for you and your pet in a fun and healthy way. ...Shinkai, of course, did not own a dog. But did this stop him from attempting to walk Usakichi? Not at all.
And so here he was, outside, leashing his bunny and letting it hop as it pleased. Who was walking who, honestly? He didn't seem to mind -- when did he ever, really -- just making sure the small and inquisitive creature stayed out of harm's way. Thankfully the streets were rather calm today, only a few people here and there walking about around them. It made the experience that much easier--
Just as he was to relax even further, however, with breakneck speed and questionable strength his rabbit companion would bolt, his soft grip on the leash easily leaving his hand. He could only watch in temporary horror as Usakichi ran towards the nearest bystander, stopping just in front of him and raising onto his hind legs. He sniffed the air, tilting his head. What had gotten into him!?
Shinkai was quick to follow, catching up with his pet and kneeling down to pick him up with ease. "Sorry. He's, uh..." Seriously, what had gotten into him? Usakichi wasn't one to just take off like that... but he did have a good judge of character. As good as a rabbit could have, he guessed. With a perplexed smile, he continued.
"Well. He must be interested in you." The redhead looked down at his pet before regarding the stranger once more. What an interesting look this guy had, not unlike the man he had met at the convenience store some time previous... Weird, but intriguing. And if Usakichi had a good feeling, then...
"... ...Would you like to pet him?"
When he wasn’t indulging himself in materials, Toudou could often be spotted at the grocery store, basket filled to the brim with a variety of vegetables and meats. Of course he’d purchase the regular necessities, but the bare minimum wasn’t enough for the climber to just get by. By no standard was Toudou a professional cook, but he did of a nack for certain meals. Such was a perk of abiding only the healthiest diets, after all.
Though such intricate meals hurt his wallet, it served as a decent distraction. Since he’d first been transported to this mechanical city staying still was never an option. Leaving himself to his thoughts lead only to glassy eyes and once hopeful memories turned sour—he’d take any alternative rather than face how lonely he’d become.
So it turns out, cooking was one resort.
Of course, no method was absolute. In more recent instances, Toudou would find his thoughts drawing back towards the days reunited with his team: offering testers to the first years, complaining about his teammates regrettable diet (never gained results, but he’d always try). The teen exhales, placing another cabbage in his bag, eyes fluttering in exhaustion.
Shoulders tense at the request he hears behind him, Toudou quickly ducking his head down in apology, about to make way before he makes the connection.
His head turns around so fast he must have gotten whiplash. Violet eyes meet blues and Toudou has to be in shock for about thirty seconds before he can utter out a hushed response.
"….Hayato?"
Cue the lip quiver, eyes immediately welling up at the sight of his once thought lost friend. Dropping his bags without a care, Toudou threw his arms around the male’s neck, no care for their surroundings.
"Hayaaatooooo!" He practically shrieks, no shame possessed in his body.
"You goon! Where have you been this entire time? I’ve been so lonely, you know? I have bags under my eyes!”
He could hardly believe it himself, honestly. Like a ghost of the past, just as his mind had wandered to this teammate in the face of the vegetables he would chastise him for not eating... here he was. Sobbing into his arms with the incredible theatrics that Shinkai had missed. Truly, truly he missed him; all of his teammates... his closest friends. Seeing Toudou like this was a taste of home he didn't realize he had needed until his own breath caught in his throat.
With the silence of surprise he returned the embrace, stunned but feeling immeasurable emotion. It was like he was back in Hakogaku and this embrace was over nothing more than Sohoku's Makishima not returning his phone call... again. It was weird but he welcomed all of it in the way he rubbed his back, not caring about the crowd of produce or even people who would witness the display. None of it mattered, none of it at all.
"Places." He said with a familiar humor the other would recognize but a much softer voice. "I haven't been here long..."
Pulling away, he offered his usual lazy smirk. His eyes were bright with the suggestion of tears that did not fall but threatened to do so if this lasted even a moment longer. A rare portrayal of emotion, a small reverberation of an otherwise concrete composure... and one that Toudou certainly deserved to see.
"Bags? Somehow you pull them off, Jinpachi."
Shopping for himself in such a large city was never his strongest suit. Never before has he lived the life of a middle-class citizen. In his youth, absolute poverty. In his late adolescence, absolute power. The in-between had only briefly been delved into. Briefly, but unforgotten in terms of how difficult it had been for him back then. Difficult, if it were not for bonds forged underneath the radar, unconsciously as he had accepted and embraced the man he once was, the man pure and untouched by a higher power’s sinister hand. How foolish was he to allow his pride and arrogance to push him towards such a shameful action. Though it is long forgiven, it is far from forgotten in Jack Atlas’s mind.
It would be nice to grab something to eat and leave, he thought. Despite his years of privilege, actually going out and buying groceries for himself wasn’t exactly commonplace. Or done at all, for that matter. Typically, he has others underneath him do all of the shopping, typically he would eat extravagantly despite his own palette being overwhelmed with such a burst in flavor when he himself is so used to the simplicity of instant foods or takeout. In the end, he had always returned to his old dietary habits. Always. There lies a sense of nostalgia whenever he opens up a package of spicy ramen. Artificial flavoring fills his nostrils more and more as it is heated and prepared right there in its Styrofoam cup. The texture of undercooked noodles filling his mouth, the way those unhealthily salted spices play on his taste buds— it all takes him way back to his youth. A time where things were simpler. When he wasn’t played the fool by those whom he had long thought to be the ones truly acknowledged his power. Those who truly respected and revered him as King.
Before him is a display of all sorts of ramen. Packaged in large bowls or small plastic pouches, in all different sizes and flavors, different brands and names— all of which tickled Jack’s interests immensely. Most of these brands he has never seen before in his life. Were they Hive-exclusive, he wonders? Violets examined each and every brand, each and every flavor and packaging type, to find the one that would be just right for his current appetite standing. With such a heavenly display, picking just one would be a hassle. Now, it has occurred to him that “Why stop at one?”. That is true. Ramen is very cheap, and very easily he could grab a handful of packets and still remain on a budget. It’s an easy feat, really, however…
Who said that Jack Atlas is very good at sticking to a budget, though?
There. There. Spicy beef ramen, a package and flavor similar if not identical to his favorite brand back home: Red Demon’s Ramen. The last cup left, too. What luck does the King have to secure such a delicacy in such little time. No— another hand quickly reaches for the very item he claimed long ago. No, he will not lose his rightful item. The King will not surrender—
Both hands collide before any sort of grasping contact with said package ensued. Neither male secured the cup of instant ramen. The only sound between the two were a brief clattering of styrofoam on linoleum flooring. For a moment, horrorstruck, Jack’s eyes lay fixated on the cup as though a great atrocity just happened. Before another action could be taken, the cup is taken up by the auburn-haired stranger and…
… Offered to him?
"Did I want that? I was reaching for it, so of course I wanted that." His voice almost too authoritarian, it easily overshadows the subtle presence of the other.
"Are you surrendering to me without so much as putting up some sort of resistance?” Pride speaks for him very often, unfortunately. "I don’t accept mere donation. That spicy beef ramen cannot just be given away like that!"
Ah. Well isn't that interesting. With a tilt of his head, Shinkai studied him further, realizing rather quickly that it wasn't just his dress that intrigued him, now. Always an observer, the redhead was never quick to pass judgment, rarely having much issue with anyone. Even with someone like this with such forward aggression and pride, he was not angry. Not at all! People were just unique, every single one of them.
And this guy was no different. In his life as a road racer, he had met plenty of interesting characters -- it was simply the circumstance of moving race to race, level to level. There was such variety, such color in every single person that it was almost like this stranger could fit right in. He certainly reminded him of someone very close to him... a faraway memory of similar volume but perhaps more sophisticated speech. Or rather, less swearing.
He blinked and as he listened, his trademark lazy smirk came to his face rather slowly. A pause between them and he spoke again. "Donation?" Another blink. There was plenty of ramen, it was hardly as terrible as he seemed to believe. Should he humor this? Though a bit ridiculous, he certainly had the time to do so... from somewhere deep came the possibility of victory. The burn was familiar. Pleasant.
How fun it would be to win again.
"... Okay, well. What should we do, then?" All ears.
"Sure, sure. I need more shit to do, anyway. I actually rode one before, I forgot to mention - but it was here in the city, and only a few times. Never got the hang of it.”
"Hmm... ..." He's quiet for a minute as he thinks on it.
"Probably wasn't a road racer... different bike, different riding style, you know? I doubt those are here in the first place... but I can teach you on a regular bike."
usakichisus started following you
"Hope you were serious about those bike lessons."
"Hm. If you're serious about learning."
Like pet like owner, they say.
And Usakichi seemed to follow right along with that. The small rabbit had been restless since their arrival and food was the most obvious first step, Shinkai had mused out loud to himself. As if hearing him, the animal's ears perked and he grew more attentive, tilting his head up at his owner's words. A similar constant appetite -- of course, it made total sense. What kind of owner would he be if he ignored the sincere wish of his beloved pet? The very thought alone was what resulted in his finding the nearest grocery store, unsure but silently glad that he managed to find it as quickly as he did. What luck.
Things really weren't so bad starting out, here... not like the strangers he had already encountered made it seem. It was just another city, really, a bit more busy than his home but a city nonetheless. The only thing that remained different, of course, was the apparent lack of friends, familiarity, and of course, the cycling team. These things held him together and a very slow sadness had begun in realizing they were now gone. A classic case of realizing the worth of something when it was perhaps too late... ah, at least Usakichi was with him, right? For now, that would have to be enough.
Such heavy thoughts hardly had time to weigh on him before he had found the desired section, anyway -- vegetables. Some carrots and lettuce would be a nice treat for his beloved, maybe a bit of celery, as well... his eyes scanned the many offered greens and other veggies before realizing a figure stood in his way of reaching them. They probably wouldn't mind moving, right?
"Excuse me, could--" That headband... he blinked, a disbelieving but pleased smirk crossing his face. It could be no other -- nobody else had hair that shiny.
Or at least that's what Toudou liked to say.
"... ...Jinpachi?"
Hunger. A true burden.
It wasn't exactly wise to contemplate a new living situation such as his on an empty stomach... or, really, do anything at all on an empty stomach. This was the basis of which Shinkai based most of his decisions on: could it wait? Was he hungry? Most often, both answers were yes, but even if they weren't, he would be on his way to the nearest convenience store regardless.
That much did not change here as he managed to locate what appeared to be heaven in the form of cheap snack foods. Paradise... something like that, yes. Even here, there was a place to purchase snacks like he would back home... maybe things wouldn't be so bad after all. Or at least this was what he told himself before locating a rather colorful row of instant soups. Ramen and its many delicious cousins.... he sighed happily. The simple things in life.
As he reached out to take the presumed last cup of spicy beef ramen, a hand managed to intersect his; there goes the bowl, hitting the ground with a soft thud. Blinking, he looked down at the casualty before looking to the source of the collision. The innocent bowl was dropped from the hands of a rather tall man, much taller than he, and dressed in a way that Shinkai would not expect to see in a store such as this. Interesting. He quirked an easygoing smirk before picking up and offering the spoil of accidental war towards the other. There were other flavors to eat; he wasn't picky.
"You wanted this?" He gave the contents a small shake -- still good to eat thanks to its packaging, of course.
"Here. All yours."
welp here we go. like for a short starter, cappin at 4
