Control of TikTok in the US has just been given over to Oracle, a major tech company known for its closeness with the Trump administration. Today on Jan 22, 2026, the privacy policy and terms of service for using the app changed. You are not able to open the app unless you click āagreeā on a new pop up, but they do not lay out what you are agreeing to. I took the liberty of reading the new tos and privacy policy and it is FUCKED.

I am not done reading yet but I had to make a disclaimer right now because what I have read so far is so disturbing. I will make a full update once I have finished reading it all but so far some of the biggest things that have stuck out to me are
They have a whole section about medical data they are collecting. They are collecting data from videos, comments, and private messages posted as well as IDENTIFYING THINGS IN THE BACKGROUND OF VIDEOS AND BODILY CUES that may indicate physical or mental illness
They are also using the same method of scanning videos (both posted and unposted), CAMERA ROLL, messages, and comments for a variety of things including INDICATION OF IMMIGRATION STATUS. They specifically say they are collecting āsensitive informationā such as ETHNICITY, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, GENDER (they specifically mention trans and nonbinary individuals), and IMMIGRATION STATUS.
They note that not only will this information be used for marketing and analytics (meaning they will sell it to other companies), it will also be used for legal activities, most likely meaning that, as many of us feared, they will be sharing all of this readily with the government
Again, I have not read the entire document yet but I will be making a followup with screenshots once I have. However even what I have read thus far proves that TikTok is NOT SAFE to use in the US especially if you are part of a marginalized group. Please stay safe

unfortunately, the future is still precarious. Amal has a newborn daughter, Mina, to care for amid the harsh winter cold, her husband Mo'tasem is injured and in pain, and 12 people in total are depending on the campaign for survival.
Amal's current hope is to rent a house for the winter to protect Mina as much as possible from the threat of exposure. although the family was able to successfully persuade their prospective landlord to lower the monthly rent from $1,500 to $1,300 USD, he is asking for three months' rent in advance, which means that in order to secure stable shelter for herself and her family for the next three months, Amal needs to raise about $4,000 USD.
this is a large amount to raise, but with your help, I know it's possible. you've stood by Amal for a long timeāplease don't forget her now, when she needs our solidarity more than ever. if you don't seek it out, you may not be encountering as much news about Gaza as you were this time last year, but conditions are only worsening and growing more unlivable. it is of dire necessity that Amal and her family raise the funds they need to get through this winter: at this point, it is survival, Mina's and everyone else's, that is on the line.
