Ah. Kastenbrust. That's what that one armor style is called

Boxy. Angular. Weird. Debatably effective. The Kastenbrust has it all and I'm enamored with it

Note that when I say "Debatably effective" I just mean "Didn't have any real noticeable advantages over previous armor styles" it wasn't like, a death sentence or anything

Though it was only around for 50 years or so (remarkably short for armor!) and indeed future armor styles went back to a more rounded breastplate anyway

However the extended sort of bell-shaped faulds (also called a tonlet) didn't really fall as sharply out of fashion as the breastplate did, and would show up in various (mostly tournament) armours long after the kastenbrust itself stopped being worn!

Though a relatively small footnote in the general history of armor making, kastenbrust is a part of the history of armour I actually really like!

winning battles in my schlocky sci-fi setting by flying my spaceship upside down and making all my floors look like ceilings so when the enemy crew tries to board it the artificial gravity makes them all fall into the ceiling and hurt themselves and my guys can just execute them while they're down
