Just an observation here. No offense is meant. But gays and trans people don't reproduce all that well. So is the change going to be a huge drop in population?
A lot of gay or trans people often adopt. Thereâs so many babies and children that doesnât have parents and live in orphanages or something. That would just mean that theyâll get homes and familyâs. Idk there might become fewer people on the earth, but idk if that would be a bad thing if it means that orphans would get families.
Please donât call us the gayest generation. Being gay isnât a choice and youâre making it sound like weâre a trend. You donât have to be gay to be âwokeâ and Iâm tired of people thinking itâs woke to be gay. Weâre just people attracted to the same sex and not the opposite. Nothing more, nothing less.
And for those in the notes who say that half your cousins or people you know your age are lgbtwhatever, thatâs nothing to be proud of. Youâre admitting that a large amount of these people are using our sexuality to gain attention and take up our spaces and resources.
I think what they mean is that in our generation it is more accepted to be a part of the lgbtq+ community, and therefore people are more open about it than they were before.
Trust me thatâs not what they mean, in recent years I have seen more of an increase in the amount of people my age identifying as something other than straight while still exclusively dating the opposite sex, itâs nowhere near proportional as to the amount of actual gay and bi people in the population - half of the population is not gay. Itâs not possible.
Of course there are some people who say theyâre bi when theyâre really not, because they think it is popular, but that is not the majority at all.
being the "gayest generation" literally just means that there are more openly gay people and less that fly under the radar, people who are faking it are fairly uncommon and also quickly realize that it's not very fun to be gay sometimes
So much so that apparently 50% of someoneâs cousins can be gay, and that the gay cousins can turn the younger ones gay?
what is that even supposed to mean?
yes, people can be gay the percentage is pure chance
no, you can't turn people gay, because it's not a choice
idk why this is relevant, because it was literally not my point
Apparently more people being openly gay means that half the population can be gay. Because thatâs what people are claiming. Thatâs what Iâm talking about. If thatâs not what youâre talking about, why are you contributing to this conversation?
where's the source for that now
you can't just assume somebody's not lgbtq because they're not dating the opposite sex, if that is what you're talking about
peoples sexualities vary and can't be categorised like that
and lastly why are you even mad that there are more openly gay people than in the past, you act like it's a bad thing
Source for what? What are you talking about? Youâre going off on a tangent about something Iâm not even talking about. Iâm going to block you now because itâs obvious youâre just trying to start an argument. Youâre not reading anything Iâm saying and youâre deliberately ignoring all of my points. I donât have the energy to go round in circles with trolls
I get that you think there are more people that are faking being a part of the lgbtq+ than it used to be, and honestly it is. But a lot of the people arenât faking it, they just feel like theyâre more accepted than they used to be.
[the comment still reads On my momâs side, 50% of my cousins are lgbtqa2s+ and three of the remainder are younger than 8, so canât tell yet, if their older, gayer siblings shall make them gay] i mean izzthelizz isnt ignoring ur points, ur making points and then saying its a tangent so idk what to tell u. yes, ppl are faking being queer or lgbt+. but why does that mean actual queer or lgbt+ ppl should be punished? why cant we just respect someone experimenting? and if someone says that they are a specific sexuality or gender, we should respect that even if u think they're faking. we dont know their personal experience with gender or sexuality and we have no right to tell someone that theyre faking.
Yeah well sheâs pretty used to telling people theyâre faking, because sheâs a notorious terf.
Explains a lot đ
Holy sh*t haha

I get that you think there are more people that are faking being a part of the lgbtq+ than it used to be, and honestly it is. But a lot of the people arenât faking it, they just feel like theyâre more accepted than they used to be.
And theyâre not what Iâm talking about. Iâm talking about people faking it. Iâm saying there are tons of people faking same sex attraction for attention and thatâs why we shouldnât cal anything the âgayest generationâ because it encourages these people. Why are you bringing up people coming out? Thatâs not what Iâm talking about. I feel like Iâm just repeating things here.
But thatâs what the post says. We are the gayest generation because way more lgbtq+ gen z people are out than lgbtq+ boomers or millennials.
Why does it matter if gay people are out or not? Theyâre still gay. That doesnât mean there are more gay people now than fifty years ago. The post is making it sound like thatâs the case, and itâs not. Thatâs my whole issue with it. And people are using that to claim that there are more gay people when in fact there are more fakers.
An easier solution to this would be to call us the most accepting generation? Because there are more accepting people now. Not more gay people.
1. It actually kind of matters. If someone isnât out, you donât know if theyâre lgbtq+ or not.
2. Nowadays people know more about the lgbtq+ community and it is easier to identify yourself as that when you know what it is. A lot of older generations havenât had the same amount of information about it, and therefore they may not have known that for example being attracted to several genders is a thing, and then because they are attracted to the opposite gender as well, they think theyâre straight.
Look, I get what youâre saying, but I donât think thatâs what they mean.
That doesnât change that there were the same amount of gay people back then as there is now. Not knowing doesnât make you straight. You not knowing if your neighbour is gay doesnât make them straight. Our generation is âas gayâ as it was back back then.
But literally how can you know that if they identify as straight or cis.
So youâre saying there ARE more gay people now? Somehow?
Iâm saying, there are more people who are out now, and if someone who isnât out identifies as straight or cis, you canât say that theyâre lgbtq+, since they say they arenât. That means, ON PAPER, there are more lgbtq+ people now.
Thatâs all Iâm saying.
Doesnât change the fact that gay people still existed, dude. They existed but either didnât know what it was or didnât come out. There are not more gay people now than there were fifty years ago, and if you think thatâs not true then Iâll ask you this - why are there suddenly more people being born as same sex attracted? What caused this to happen? If acceptance is the only reason why there are apparently more gay people, then youâre saying itâs a choice, proving my point that a lot of people are identifying this way for attention.
But we are the gayest generation, because you donât know the lgbtq+ people that are in the closet. You canât say theyâre lgbtq+ if they say they arenât. Like sure, there may be the same amount, but if they someone DOESNT KNOW that theyâre bi, you canât count them as lgbtq+ if they say that they are straight.
You didnât answer any of my questions.
Iâm not saying that there are more people attracted to the same sex. But if people donât know that they are and therefore say that theyâre straight, you canât say that they are lgbtq+ when theyâre denying it. And weâre not only talking about gay/bi/straight people here, weâre also talking about nonbinary, gender fluid, demisexual etc, which a lot of people in older generations havenât identified themselves as because they donât know it exists.
And honestly, weâre not going anywhere with this, canât we just agree to disagree?
Good grief. They didnât identify as any of THAT because it doesnât exist. Yes, Iâll agree to disagree with you that gay people havenât existed before the 2000s because I can accept that that is an unbelievably stupid thing to believe and I can accept that I canât change stupid.
Gen Z call themselves âthe gayest generationâ because they think dyeing your hair makes you kweer. That having a facial piercing makes you kweer. Which of course means gay, because âgay is an umbrella termâ and q*eer is used as a slur against gay people (esp men).
Their logic is impressively homophobic. Thereâs more kweerios now than ever before but theyâre not gay. Theyâre just dickheads.
The fact that OP even mentions demiwhatevers and nonbinarinos proves that theyâre a homophobe. Homophobes have no business talking about gay people so to all the dumbass kweers out there -
SHUT THE FUCK UP.
Bro. That didnât make any sense. And are you calling me a homophobe? You need to relax.
It makes perfect sense, but I already know you canât read. Gen Z call themselves queer because they dye their hair or get a nose piercing and that makes them special and gay and non-binary. None of which is true. So Gen Z is NOT the âgayest generationâ because theyâre faking it. I just change the spelling so as not to trigger actual gay people who hear the word as a slur, because it is a hateful slur toward gay people.
Every single person who âbelievesâ this mogai non binary queer shit is absolutely homophobic. Itâs not our fault you guys canât use your brains. And I will not ârelaxâ, because Iâm sick of this shit! Way to show your misogyny though đđ»
Honestly Iâm too tired for this but here we go I guess.
1 of all Iâve never been rude to you, so please stop. âI alReAdY knOw YoU cAnâT rEaDâ and âItâS nOt OuR fAuLt yOu GuYs CanâT uSe YoUr BrAiNsâ like canât we just discuss this normally?
2nd Gen z people donât call themselves lgbtq+ because they color their hair or get a piercing. Thatâs ridiculous. Youâre talking about it like everyone is faking it. âGen z is not the gayest generation because theyâre faking itâ. I know there are some people who are faking it but that isnât the majority!
3rd nonbinary people are real. Iâm not nonbinary so therefore I donât feel like I can talk on theyâre behalf. But if someone says theyâre nonbinary Iâm going to believe them and support them.

(Iâm so sorry Iâm getting in the middle of this, but apparently Iâm in a friendly but argumentative mood today. I donât want to hurt anyoneâs feelings or bash anyoneâs personal experiences, and if I do, Iâm really sorry! That is not my intention. Also, if you donât want to read this, you definitely donât have to.)
Firstly, to those arguing that Gen Z is not the âgayest generationâ, technically, even if the percentage of people who are LGBTQ+ has stayed the same throughout human history, it could be argued that because there are now more humans living on Earth than ever before, we contain the greatest number of people who are LGBTQ+. *shrugs* Iâm sorry, I had to say it because I was thinking it.Â
But I really donât think thatâs the point. I totally understand the concern about people who arenât in the LGBTQ+ community claiming to be part of the community to somehow âboost their statusâ or whatever, but I think some people might be missing the point? Which is that because past generations of LGBTQ+ people have worked really, really hard, young people in my generation have the opportunity to actually question their sexual/gender identity instead of just going with the default of heterosexual. Obviously, this might mean that some people figure out during high school and college that they are not, in fact, LGBTQ+, and thatâs okay!Â
But the main reason I chose to comment on this debate is because I really feel like itâs directed at me personally, because Iâm currently questioning my sexual preferences, and I have been for the last few years. This has really weighed on my heart and soul because sometimes Iâm like, âIâm definitely not purely heterosexualâ, and then other days I wonder if I might be. And what Iâm so thankful for is that in this generation thatâs okay. I can experiment and figure out what my sexuality is without the fear of being ostracized, and thatâs so powerful. So if even if itâs âbadâ that some people might claim to be part of the community even though they know theyâre not, isnât it better that way so that people who genuinely are questioning have the freedom to do so?Â
I think thatâs the whole point of the post so thank you for explaining it so wellđ„°đ„° Also hope you figure everything out soon, Iâve also gone through that and it is stressful af hahaâ€ïž

I mean you also could argue that there ARE more gay people because it's easier for someone to discover and accept that they're gay.
For example: my friends grandpa is bi. 20 years ago you wouldnt have counted him as lgbt because neighter him nor anyone else knew. He thought basic attraction was normal and understood that you shouldn't act on it. BUT NOW he knows what that attraction means and over the years came to terms with it and is now married to a man.
So yeah. You can say that there is one more lgbt person now right? Well that's what's happening. People are starting to understand what their feeling and labeling it.
If someone thought they were bi but realize they're gay there would be one more gay person and one less bi person cuz YOU COULDN'T HAVE KNOWN THEY WERE GAY IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Idk that's just my view on things
Thats true

@izzthelizzâ bless you for your hard work, totally agree with you.
*rolls up the sleeves of my cardigan* people assuming that 50% of the population canât be âgayâ a term that refers to all LGBT+ people in common culture (not just homosexual individuals), are wrong. Many cultures which didnât actively suppress homosexual desires as well as heterosexual desires in people found many would court both. Many studies done specifically to test peopleâs reactions to questions about sexuality when distanced from social pressures suggest underlying bisexual tendencies in supposedly âstraightâ people. As society becomes more accepting, you will likely find more people identifying as bisexual/transgender in particular. The greater representation and openness of LGBT+ will likely be a factor in this.
This does not mean weâre turning people. It does mean weâre more accepting. It also means that by being more accepting we will be âthe gayest generationâ. And yeah, people who are bi can date who they like. A lesbian not currently dating a girl is still a lesbian. A bi person dating the opposite sex is still bi. Maybe if they grew up with a society less oppressive of their same sex attractions and an LGBT+ community that didnât try to call them fakers, theyâd feel more comfortable acting on those.

Look, I get what youâre saying, but I donât think thatâs what they mean.

It happens a lot more than you would think. A LOT of girls in my old school identified as bi, and now in uni theyâre back to straight. They treat the gay community like itâs a phase, a fun thing to try out and experiment with, and when theyâre done with all the attention they just take the costume off. Itâs a side effect of straight people seeing how hyped up being gay is - I just want to be seen as normal and ordinary, but straight people are jealous of us and wonât stop taking advantage of the attention put onto us.
A lot of people actually go through a phase. I went through a bi phase but then later realized Iâm gay, and a lot of people do the same. There is obviously some people that do take advantage of the attention like you said, but a lot of people are confused about their sexuality and it should be okay for them to experiment. Iâm not saying that there arenât people who totally fake it, but a lot of people are actually just curious or confused and that is okay.
Iâm talking about half of my school claiming theyâre gay and taking advantage of our community while continuing to not actually experiment at all and continuing to date the opposite sex, then as soon as it stops being convenient for them, they drop the gay act.
Look, obviously thatâs not good, but that doesnât actually happen tHaT often. Like, almost no one in my school is out yet, so itâs good that it is getting more normal and accepted to be lgbtq+.
This is one of the comments on your post. Youâre saying thereâs nothing wrong with this? Nothing at least a little fishy here?
Iâve actually said, multiple times, that yes there is something wrong with that, but it doesnât happen that often.
In your opinion. From my view, where I live, âgayâ people are fuckin everywhere to the point where easily half of any given youth event or class I attend identifies as something other than straight. And that is impossible in reality.
Okay, 1. Maybe where you live, but Iâve never seen that many unless it is an lgbtq+ event, and 2. Itâs not impossible
[the comment reads:Â On my momâs side, 50% of my cousins are lgbtqa2s+ and three of the remainder are younger than 8, so canât tell yet, if their older, gayer siblings shall make them gay ]
sexuality being a trend is not good, but you also cannot turn someone gay either, another point raised by @izzthelizzâ. op is also not responsible for the comments ppl leave on the post.
secondly, in previous generations, there were less mainstream labels that ppl used to describe their gender and attraction. now that more labels are being coined and shared, ofc the number of queer and lgbt+ ppl are increasing because more ppl are realising that they arenât straight or arenât cis. this is a good thing, because ppl become more able to understand themselves. it is a good thing that they feel safe to come out. that means a safer environment is being created for queer and lgbt+ people

Half of the population isnât gay. Maybe half of a friend group or something, but that doesnât mean every friend group is like that.
