who we ARE and who we NEED TO BE to SURVIVE are two very DIFFERENT things
The world hasn’t ended, but for humanity, the prognosis isn’t good.
As many predicted, humanity crafted and swung the ax that cut off its own head. Bombs raining down like hellfire, much of the world went up in smoke. Those who could flee found their havens, and those who remained were left to endure or die. With each passing day, more and more fell. At what point did people start dying to ensure others would endure?
Fire and ash burned away so much, corrupted even more of what was left behind, survivors could only grasp for scraps of a fallen civilization to make it from one day to the next. With precious food and water so scarce, even the tiny remnants of the population seemed too much for the broken world to sustain.
Kill or be killed, was there any other option? A neighbor’s full belly means yours is empty, his blood on the ground means yours won’t be spilled. Perhaps alliances can be made, perhaps you can trust the ones beside you not to slit your throat and steal your supplies, or worse, satiate a savage hunger with your flesh…
Humans still walk the earth, a persistent species that endures even its own manufactured calamities. But can any one of us keep our humanity as well as our lives?

shantytown.
the hub of this makeshift town, where most people have put together the semblance of normalcy, despite its poverty. it was built on the ruins of the town that stood there before, adjacent to a farm. it consists mostly of haphazardly constructed shacks made from whatever materials could be salvaged from the rubble and debris. home sweet home.
the soup kitchen.
while the power has been out since the bombs fell and there has been no move from the government to get it running again, this repurposed diner was mostly salvaged by the people living here. the appliances were ditched for good old-fashioned crock pots over fire, but it still works as a gathering place, serving people who cannot afford to get food anywhere else.
