I'm Paul Kanyamu Canary, an LGBTQIA refugee leader in Kakuma Refugee Camp Kenya.
The major reason for writing you this message is to kindly let you know of the sufferings and persecutions we are going through as LGBTQIA refugees in Kakuma Refugee Camp ,Kenya.
We are facing homophobic and Transphobic attacks every now and then.
We are subjected to torture by homophobic refugees.
Our shelters have been burnt down, we are lacking food, medication and some of our shelters were set ablaze.
Queers are sleeping outside in the cold and dust...
We have tried several times reaching to authorities like POLICE, but they've always told us Kenya doesn't support Homosexuality.
We are assaulted, for Instance,, I was pushed into a long ditch, bones in my right leg got broken and dislocated.
Lesbians have been raped!!!
Transgender refugees are stoned daily.
We have no better medication in over crowded refugee clinics.
We kindly need ADVOCACY so that our plight can be heard.
Kindly take a look at Some of the attacks published and stories from different LGBTIQ Refugees in the camp are below;
