I just started ME1 and I have this big headcanon that Kaidan and Ezra (my shep) started dating about 2 months before the game’s events. Slowly, though, Ezra begins to realize that she doesn’t quite feel right with being called “princess” and starts experiencing major dysphoria, something she’s felt before but repressed heavily because her parents were majorly homophobic and transphobic.

By the time she becomes a Spectre, she’s been searching every human colony for a doctor who would help her for 5 months. Nobody would, until she met Liara. It’s at this point that she tells Kaidan that she’s trans.

“Ez, I’m so glad you told me that, but…” Kaidan said hesitantly.

“How much is this going to change things?” Ezra would ask, cursing himself for not bringing it up earlier in their relationship.

“A lot. I love you, and we both know that, but as far as I know, I’m not into guys. And you are a guy,” Kaidan laughed, then paused for what felt like eternity. “But you’ve always been a guy and now that I know, I don’t find myself giving much of a shit. I don’t know. I think I got my own stuff to figure out. But I’m willing to try this if you are.”

It’s basically them helping each other realize themselves and it’s fucking wholesome.
