ranting about ST5 vol2
so vol2 of ST5 was shit from the ass 😭😭😭 as expected, all byler scenes were queerbait and mike was will's tammy apparently? although that makes no sense?? don't even get me started on the coming out scene oh god. overall every character sucked and the plot did not move an inch. all dialogue was awfully descriptive and repetitive. the pace was weird af and I don't give a flying fuck about holly sorry man. but here's my breakdown ep by ep from what i remember of my single watch because istg I'm not watching that shit ever again:
ep 5 - the only good one in the volume. actually feels like a continuation in tone to the sorcerer (one of the show's best episodes ever btw). call me toxic but i love steve and dustin's exchanges here i like to see dustin let it all out, but i hateeee the eddie mentions like give it a rest i know the duffers are trying to please the general audience by CONSTANTLYYYY bringing up their favorite character that for some reason has been treated as more important in the show in ONE SEASON than lucas who has been here since season 1 hmmm i wonder why!!
anyway the whole pregnant women being infected or whatever with kali's blood is okay?? i guess?? please explain to me why jane's blood is better like is it because she had more training? idk. also side note I'm not the type of person to point this out but god mbb's face is so omg I don't have the word in english for it but please girl next time get the injections AFTER the shooting ends or way before?? please??? also el this season is just not it. although i don't like season 4 i think her storyline is cool and she /is/ a good enough actress and el has so many feelings and rage in her in season 4 that just... aren't there anymore?? suddenly she's emotionless and lacks a personality?? she's one of my favorite characters but i rolled my eyes whenever she was on screen like PLEASE even hopper is more himself than you girl.
will and max carried sorry. that one scene where he takes control over vecna's body and talks to max? cinema. but i would like a wholeee lot less of holly idgaf about the first memory henry has of her or when he approached her first idgaf about building this character this is the last season of the show i care about LUCAS and ERICA and ROBIN who have actually been here for longer and the show has never cared about giving them real arcs besides being accessories to others. holly and the kids took way too much screentime away from the characters we actually care about like..
all in all this episode at least has something good in it (will byers being cool as hell and byler hug which idc care about because of byler but because will deserved that stupid hug after all this time). still, i only cared when they showed will and his group otherwise i was kinda dozing off 🤷🏻♀️ 7.5/10
ep 6 - this is when shit starts hitting the fan. first of all, there's not enough will. jail. i knew immediately he was getting sidelined again the moment he passed out ngl. also no one is worried enough about him being passed tf out ?? lucas maybe but mike is just chilling there like my brother in christ your best friend might never wake up hello? then jane, hopper and kali come back and it's so weird man you can't just reintroduce kali and instead of doing something good with it you just make her antagonize everyone else. and the mike and el scenes are still so ambiguous and plain and at this point they're not even platonic they're just empty. awful writing from the duffers as always.
jancy scene was super emotional and i loved it so much! until i found out (via an article) that they actually broke up there like 😭 reducing their relationship to "shared trauma" is evil in so many levels and not to be a bitch but that's literally almost every relationship on this stupid show cough cough mileven. it's not fair that they're treating either of them like this. they're one of the good relationships in the show that actually had on screen development along with jopper, one of the only relationships that makes sense and it would actually be satisfactory to watch them overcome their personal trauma in order to grow together but no to the duffers that's not acceptable or realistic! also they clearly love each other so deeply so why break them up like that?? it makes zero sense.
don't get me started on the tired max and holly scenes. stretched that shit a bit too long for my taste. and the last monologue about holly the heroic and whatever omfg as i said i don't give a fuck about building up this new character you basically /just/ introduced to me, especially if it takes like 5 minutes from the show it was toooo long and i mean i probably heard that speech given by another character in a other season. ffs in season 2 we had jonathan giving will the it's okay to be weird speech and it was short and effective and realistic wheeere did the people that wrote that go.
i was glad we got a rovickie scene but the whole hospital thing with the demos was stupid asf you're trying to tell me lucas just kicked a 200kg beast that was running at full speed at him and nothing happened to him? just like that? and they just ignored vickie and robin but attacked the military dudes? please. and karen wheeler... man i seriously don't care about that lady having her hero moment (medically impossible btw) and I don't understand why the duffers insist on giving her so much spotlight when they could be giving it to oh idk LUCAS or oh idk JOYCE??? who the show was actually about in the beginning??? the mom who would anything to save her little boy???? remember???
below mid episode but i liked "did the leg slow you down?" that was cunt = 4.5/10
ep 7 - oh boy.. oh boy........ we can all agree in general the writing for this was ass but here it just got significantly worse ❤️
max is back alive! she isn't blind despite being.. blinded .. last season .. okay i guess? at least people will be happy to see h- what? oh no one moved except her boyfriend (his one and only role this season btw: being max's bf) and *reads notes* william byers? who she has never directly interacted with? i mean okay i always imagined they'd get along but it is a little weird that the girl who brought her back to life didn't move an inch didn't smile didn't cry didn't hold onto her for dear life?? I'd argue the only good thing about season 3 is their friendship but i guess the duffers forgot about their own characters' history (they did).
everyone going to the upside down was goofy as fuck I don't even want to touch on that i was so confused like why are we getting vickie down there bruh let's get her home safe. also we thought mike going there was going to be an Event but it was so anticlimactic... like everything about mike this season lmao.
holly was taken back to henry's mansion so the entirety of her scenes in episode 6 are useless. and more scenes with the kids that add nothing to the plot nor i care about!
they come up with a stupid plan .. kali and jane suicide pact which i guess. i mean that's just a stupid resolution if you ask me and so rushed too I'm so annoyed at least give a better explanation other than "there will be more papas" 😭
also did everyone forget will can control vecna if he's close enough to the hive mind?? why not include him in the plan? i mean we're all risking el anyway why not go all in?? i think that he's planning to sacrifice himself but still :( i wish he would stop being sidelined as a character i hope the duffers ***. um what else.. weird dick jokes etc etc Oh! the coming out scene.
i was so excited to see him come out to joyce actually because i love them both and i love their bond and it would be so satisfying to see him FINALLY be fully himself with her and then mike walks in and I'm like shit! this gets interesting and then everyone else is there and I'm like Ah. so it's one of Those scenes. completely unnecessary, cringeworthy, corny, the whole time will was trying to reassure everyone else that he's normal and apologizing(!!!!!) to fuckass michael for ""having a crush"" on him ooohhh that pissed me off. "he's my tammy" um first of all don't out robin like that tf? second of all apparently that self acceptance speech robin gave in ep 4 was actually what everyone else expected in the end 😭 i won't get into why that's offensive to byler as a friendship of years and to gay people in general because i think we all know and other people have probably said it better than me.
i just want to say that this felt like a humiliation ritual not only for the character who has gone though hell and back, but also to queer people watching BELIEVE ME i wanted to cry out of rage. i have never seen a coming out scene be handled in such poor taste. we don't need the whole fucking town here. it's not fair to force the abused gay boy to come out IT DOESN'T EVEN SERVE THE PLOT. and i hate zio schnapp as much as the next person but putting the actor in that place for 12 hours to the point of dissociation is literal torture and speaks volumes about how much the duffers hate gay people and what they expect the gay experience to feel like!! also, it speaks volumes about how much they hate the audience who were rooting for byler, because let's be honest, it felt so cruel and targeted in that sense.
anyway idk if there's anything else to speak about but this is BY FAR the worst stranger things episode, worst than any season 3 episode even. it was weird, awful, homophobic (they didn't even use the word gay but they had no problem calling him slurs when he was 12yo okay), and why not, racist, misogynistic, cruel, boring, the characters weren't themselves, way too much holly, plot moved backwards etc = 1.5/10 (max and will were cute as fuck).
i expect nothing for the finale except duffer brothers suffering and begging for forgiveness on their knees idk
