1.) the color red is used throughout the movie in almost every scene. Red is used to represent love as well as lust.

2.)one object is the red jeep. it is in many scenes of the guy and the woman. it shown them together in love and then apart when he finds she is cheating. the jeep is also in the scene when he leaves the dog on the side of the road. the jeep is there with both love and anger

3.) Red is used to show the story of love and how it can represent both love and anger. it is suppose to make the viewer feel both of these feelings. no other color would accurately represent that.

4.)the woman is shown in all three films. in red valentine sees her not being able to reach, and helps her puttee bottle in. in blue, Julie doesn't see the old woman. in white karol looks at the man. the woman symbolizes struggle

5.)in all of the stories, the final scene is of each character crying.a symbol in all three stories is the characters staying linked to their past. blue-the lamp and beads, white- the plaster sculpture of the girl, red- the fountain pen he has never not used. the stories go in order and all connect with the final movie of red.

1- In general there was a lot of details that present the color red specially around the girl while she was contacting her boyfriend at her apartment, the movement of Red form the still life to actual life which what she work at was performing a red and that can show the deferent meaning of the color red which is scared and waiting and having a betrayal and romance moments. there was a lot of parts where is shows a deferent meaning of the color red, helping the dog, waiting for love or a call, looking for the hiding story and more, I like the slow motion of red in the movie which start by a red light and ends which a red honest.

2- the scary look while shooting, it was a red moment that follow all the movie until the end. when the photographer told Valentine to act like she is scared and there was a red lights with red background it seems that he reflect her moment in the movie, I know red might looks a love and love also love but I feel that moment when Valentine act like a scared women who afraid of something she even do not know what is it! is a power moment at the movie.

3- I thought the red would be all about the major moment of revenge but I saw that there is a lot of waiting moments, I was looking for a something would remind me of the other movies but the red one was more direct and have the hiding really story that you have to understand. there was some moment that I lost when it came to the phone calls but after all I felt I’m more close to know or feel Valentine and that what I think the audience would feel too!

4- seeing the old lady in each movie was as reflecting to what that color would mean in each movie and what was the reaction to the old lady in each movie, red was there to help! when Valentine helped the old lady while the other colors was with a deferent reaction.

5- white is more about a free space of a moment of peace and looking to each other in same level, Blue is more as a mature and taking the good decision, while the red which I prefer more is the truth moment and looking for it even if there is scared moments thats why I think the director make the red is the last one, also its present the colors in the French flag which seems so right.

Movie Red

1. The beginning of Red is kind of similar to Blue, director use the color that match the title of the movie at the beginning. Red bar, red chair, red door, red book cover, red leash, red jeep... Color red is full of the screen, you don’t even need look for it. Director uses red as main theme to go over the whole movie, and the poster about Valentine has appear in the movie than make the connection to the end of the movie.

2.The red poster that Valentine took. Red makes people think about passion, love, exciting,angry, but when Valentine was taking the picture for the poster, photographer told her don’t smile, pretend you are really sad. It is the opposite way from what red means. And at the end of the movie, when she got rescued, the camera got her on screen, it is the same as the poster, the motion seems the same, but actually it is different, it shows people that they are going to have a new life, there is hope, and love, everything is going to be different. Director use the poster to show viewers what is going to happen in the future. Also use the same things to end the movie to let viewer think about the true meaning of the movie.

3. The movie is the last one of the three movies, at beginning i thought that red means betray and hate, and it will be similar to the other two movie. At the end of the movie i changed my mind, i think director is trying to let audiences find hope of new life, everyone will find something that hurts and you can do nothing to change it, and red seems to become a motion through the movie, to make audiences feel better, safe and warm, give audiences energy and hope to come out the sadness. Red in this movie is not only a color, but also a motion. A smile from you, a piece of goodness from you, might going to change other people’s feeling about life.

4. The old little lady who is going to recycle the bottle throughout all three movies. The differences between it is only at the last movie Valentine helped her to do the recycle. This is making a connection with what i wrote about the third question, director is trying to show audiences Red is a motion, and a piece of goodness might change other people’s feeling. Movie red is all about love and hope. The old lady is a hint for the last movie, but she also play a big roll inside of all three movie, it makes people think. May be this is why Red become the last movie of all. The hope of the new life.

5.The connection between all three movies that appear in the last movie is all the existent from the accident are the main characters from all three movies. The reason why red should be the last movie because in movie red shows the hope of new life, that is different from the first two, it feels like from small to big. Blue shows audiences independence, White shows audiences equality between people, and Red shows audiences the hope of new life and love. Also the order the color is match the color of French flag. I feel director is trying to tell audiences that the whole meaning about the French flag and about this whole country. In French, people are independence, are equal to each other, and also they are full of love, goodness and hope for the new life,

Sketchbook #12- Three Colors Red

1. In major moments of the movie the color red is utilized. In the beginning of the film when Valentine is talking on the phone with her boyfriend the scene begins with an entrance into her apartment and it showcases a lot of red furniture, and then it transitions into the scene of her modeling for the chewing gum company. This same image would be seen at the end of the film, this would serve as two book ends to the film. Red, in this film, is seen as a color of solidarity thus connecting the characters through out the film. For instance, when Valentine runs over Rita, the judges dog, she is bleeding, and then the injured dog ends up connecting them for the rest of the film.

2. The red criminology book that Auguste drops in the street to the open page. Although this object is not utilized in the entirety of the film, it is seen as very significant and a very big symbol of solidarity in the film. It is significant because later when the judge is telling Valentine the story about how he once dropped his book and it opened to page that would later help him on his exam it connects all three of these characters whose lives before this point seemed to never really connect to each other. This emphasizes the point of the film, which is solidarity and fraternity.

3. This last film is supposed to feel more energized and interconnected the other two films since it is the last film in the trilogy it is supposed to connect all three together. Red, to me, was more about forming relationships which can be tied in with the color red more than the other two films could. Even though there isn't a lot of lust in the film, I think the film represents taking action and energy. The characters in this film have more confidence and take more action than in the other two which can be associated with the color red. The audience is supposed to feel more connected to the characters and more hopeful for the characters which the color red helps the audience obtain those emotions and feelings.

4. The old lady trying to recycle the bottle is supposed to represent the theme and meaning in each film. In Blue, the main character, Julie, doesn't notice the woman which represents the theme of freedom. In white, Karol looks at the old person with a sister grin representing the theme of equality. In Red, Valentine helps the woman with the glass bottles as a representation of solidarity.

5. Within the three films, I think that Blue was supposed to represent independence and freedom, White was supposed to represent equality and have an almost revenge quality, and then Red was supposed to represent solidarity. The director utilized the three colors, blue, white, and red to represent the colors of the French flag. I believe the meaning behind the films and the meaning behind colors is supposed to represent the spirit of France. Blue is first because it is the first color in the flag, White is second because it is the second color on the flag, and Red is third because it is the third color on the flag.

What is the role of Valentine for her assistance of the little old lady in the overall story-arc between all three films as opposed to the passive observation between her character and the main characters in the other two films?

Why did the direct utilize the colors blue, white, and red instead of any other triad of colors, and how does he purposefully use each color based on where they appear in the timeline of all three movies (i.e. why is Blue 1st, White 2nd, and Red 3rd based on your interpretation of their narrative and story arc)?

Sketchbook Assignment #11 Celebration of the Arts, part III

Great job on the last sketchbook assignment! Most of you have a clear voice coming forward; the photos were also much simpler which will make reading and digesting them easier for our viewers in the darkened space we will be occupying for Celebration of the Arts.

Now its crunch time...

I would like each of you to select the 10 photographs you would like to submit to Celebration of the Arts. These 10 photographs will be printed and used during our curating day (led by Taylor and Madde) where we will make the decisions on what to cut and where to sequence our imagery.

The imagery your post MUST be from this semester and for this class. Each of your 10 images much be different subject matter!! You should end up with 10 unique photographs that speak to the ideas we’ve been talking about in class for our Celebration of the Arts installation, such as: color and its relationship to memory, reality, dreams, and our emotional/psychological connections with it, etc. Remember that the colors that will be present in the space are red, green, and blue.
